It began in 2001, when the development and arrangement of the Gornaya Karusel ski complex began in Esto-Sadok. With Sochi receiving the right to host the 2014 Winter Games, construction of the Olympic media village began on the territory of the “Mountain Carousel”. It was this that became the basis of the future large-scale resort, which has now mastered 4 heights - 540 m, 960 m, 1500 m and 2200 m above sea level.

One of the authors of the ski resorts of the famous Courchevel, the French architect Pierre Diener, took part in the development of the Gorki Gorod project.

In addition to the media village, the resort was represented at the 2014 Games by the unique Russian Hills springboard complex, which has now become a national training center and venue for international competitions.

Today “Gorki Gorod” is ready to receive up to 50 thousand guests; hotels of famous international chains and cozy apartments are distributed throughout the “Upper” and “Lower” cities. The “Lower City” was built in Esto-Sadok, along the embankment of the Mzymta River. It is convenient to walk here, there is its own multi-level shopping and entertainment center, many cafes and restaurants, clubs, all the infrastructure necessary for skiing and a cable car station. “Upper City” is the territory of premium category hotels and spa centers at an altitude of 960 m. How to get there

First you need to get to Adler or Sochi. There are many options, but the easiest way is by plane. Sochi International Airport receives direct and charter flights from more than 60 cities in Russia, near and far abroad. Several airlines connect the ski capital of the country with the official capital. Direct tickets from Moscow, even in high season, can be purchased for 1600-3900 RUB, the flight will take about 2.5 hours. Prices on the page are indicated for September 2018.

From the airport to Esto-Sadok we go by bus, train, shuttle or taxi. Tickets for municipal buses No. 105 and 135 from Adler to Krasnaya Polyana cost 153 RUB. Buses run every hour from 5:40 to 18:40. Travel on Skybus buses is more expensive - 400 RUB per seat, but there are flights at 21:00, 0:00 and 2:30. Get off at the Marriott, GORKY GOROD MALL or Gorki Gorod ticket office stops.

Branded “Swallows” run from Sochi and Adler up to 6 times a day, the cost of a full ticket from the airport to the destination: 233 RUB. We go to the final station “Rosa Khutor”, from there on foot or by taxi. A taxi within Krasnaya Polyana costs about 200-500 RUB, for short distances about 200 RUB.

You can also take a taxi from the airport. During the high season, it is better to order a car in advance through one of the network dispatch services; the trip will cost 1300-2000 RUB. Private owners in winter and at odd hours can request 3000 RUB. But in the summer, when the influx of people wanting to get to Krasnaya Polyana and Esto-Sadok subsides, you can negotiate a price of 500-700 RUB.

Cable cars and trails

The cable cars and snow trails of the Gorki Gorod resort are represented by another powerful brand - the sports and tourist complex Gornaya Karusel, located on the northern slope of the Aibga ridge.

During the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Gornaya Karusel was the only ski area open to everyone, which made it popular among riders from all over the world.

Ski passes

Daytime, midday and evening adult ski passes cost from 1500 RUB in the spring season to 3400 RUB during vacations and holidays, children: 800-1500 RUB. There are special offers for students, family packages, discounts for purchasing ski passes for several days in a row. Children under 6 years old and adults over 70 years old can ride for free; discounts are available for guests of preferential categories. A seasonal personalized ski pass for adults costs 28,000-35,000 RUB, for children - 12,000-15,000 RUB. A daily fast track will cost 7500 RUB.

The cost of excursion rides on cable cars depends on the duration of the route. The shortest walk from 540 m to 960 m above sea level will cost 200 RUB per child and 300 RUB per adult. You can go on a solo walk for a couple of hours, or you can do something much more adventurous and interesting - book a real walking trip for several days, accompanied by highly qualified guides.

For the new season, Gorki Gorod opens its doors to 8 hotels and apartments in the 3, 4 and 5 star categories. Three hotels are located in the “Lower City”, at an altitude of 540 m above sea level. Another 5 are in the “Upper City”, at 960 m. The cost of one night in five-star rooms “Solis Sochi”, “Rixos Krasnaya Polyana” or “Marriott Sochi Krasnaya Polyana” starts from 8100-15 600 RUB. If you set yourself the goal of fully evaluating the cuisine and service in all the cafes, restaurants and bars of the “Lower” and “Upper” cities, then you need to take a vacation for at least two weeks, not really counting on skiing, since more than 40 of the brightest catering outlets await guests here formats and directions.

Gorki Gorod restaurants offer Russian, international, European, Italian, Mediterranean, Oriental, Pan-Asian and original cuisine. The average check in establishments ranges from 1000-3000 RUB. You can have an inexpensive and tasty snack or sit with friends in one of the resort’s cafes and bars. In total there are more than a dozen of them on the territory of Gorki Gorod. Average check: 1500 RUB. The good mood bar "Orange Cat" is especially notable for its opening hours - it is the only establishment of the resort that is open all night from 18:00 to 6:00. The Gorki Grand lobby bar is famous for the largest collection of whiskey in the region, and its brother from the Sochi Marriott Krasnaya Polyana is famous for its rich tea list. “Katyusha Plus” is open until midnight, the “trick” is hearty homemade lunches and takeaway food, average bill: 500 RUB. And there’s plenty to keep yourself occupied, even without taking into account the cable car excursions that are standard for all resort guests.

For example, you can visit the unique Olympic site “Russian Hills”. Competitions and training of athletes on the Gorok springboards take place even in the summer; this is worth seeing and capturing.

When the mountain slopes change their color from white to green, ecological hiking trails of different difficulty levels open in Gorki Gorod. Walking along eco-routes is free, but for some you will have to fork out for a cable car ride. You can also book an individual tour or join a group tour. An hour of useful walking accompanied by an instructor will cost 600 RUB for a one-on-one forced march.

When going skiing in Gorki Gorod, take care of lightweight and breathable equipment - winters here are snowy, but warm and humid. The ski season opens in the second half of December and lasts almost until May. There is no need to be afraid of frosts - the powerful ridges of the Caucasus Mountains do not let in cold from outside, and also do not release sea heat, creating a unique mountain-sea microclimate in Krasnaya Polyana and its environs. In May it quickly becomes warm, everything blooms and turns green before our eyes. Having arrived here, tourists quickly get used to moving up and down on gondola and chairlifts. There are transfer platforms at three heights, 960 m, 1,460 m and 2,200 m. The lifts also take skiers to the slopes at levels of 2,050 and 2,300 meters above sea level.

A total of twelve cable cars are divided into four sectors: Central, Eastern, Circus-1, Circus-2 and Circus-3. Gorki City is conventionally divided into three parts: the resort sectors of the Lower and Upper Towns and the sports complex "Mountain Carousel", where the tracks are located.

The heart of the resort is the Gornaya Karusel sports complex, located on the slopes of the Aibga ridge. There are 29 trails of varying difficulty levels: from “green” for beginners to “black” for professional skiers. They pass at altitudes from 960 to 1460 meters. The longest route is 2.5 kilometers, and their total length is 27 kilometers. The resort also has illuminated slopes for lovers of evening skiing.

The Gorki City slopes are served by 12 lifts: 8 chairlifts and 4 gondolas. Transfer sites are located at an altitude of 1, 1.5 and 2 kilometers, and movement between neighboring sites takes 10-15 minutes. To use the lifts, you need a single pass - a ski pass. The resort can be roughly divided into two parts. One – “Gorki Gorod” +540 – is located at an altitude of 540 meters above sea level. Its other part is “Gorki Gorod” +960 - respectively, at an altitude of 960 meters. They are connected to each other by cable cars and roads.

In the “Lower City” there are two hotels and the main apart-complexes, SPA complexes, sports facilities, a shopping gallery, a congress center, gourmet restaurants, children's playgrounds, and an indoor water park. Entertainment is mainly concentrated in this part of the resort, and therefore Gorki Gorod +540 is more suitable for fun and active recreation.

The “Upper City” is to some extent reminiscent of the resort settlements of the Mediterranean. Those who love skiing and mountains are drawn here, first of all, to the “Mountain Carousel”. The complex is located on the territory of a resort in the village of Esto-Sadok on the slopes of the mountains.

“Mountain Carousel” is 27 kilometers of the best ski slopes, which, according to snowboarding and skiing enthusiasts, are in no way inferior to European slopes. The altitude at which the tracks are located ranges from 960 to 1460 meters. They vary in difficulty: “red” and “black”, “green” and “blue” - they are available for both experienced and beginner skiers.

Last season, additional trails and lighted trails for evening skiing were opened in the eastern sector of the resort. And if there is a problem with snow, it can be easily solved with the help of snow cannons, which make the mountain slopes perfect at night. The use of artificial snow is a guarantee that mountain slopes and skiers will not be left without snow under any circumstances. And the winter season, as expected, will last until the very end of April.

12 chairlifts and gondola lifts deliver skiers to the mountain slopes (transfer “steps” are located at an altitude of 960 m, 1459 m and 2200 m). The ascent on each section of the cable car takes up to 15 minutes on average. And to get from the launch site (altitude 540 meters) to the “Circus-3” zone (the farthest point) it will take a little more than an hour.

The resort offers ski equipment rental. Instructors are always ready to give lessons and conduct master classes for beginner skiers.

Little guests are given special care here. For them, under the guidance of trained children's instructors, lessons on mastering skiing and snowboarding are organized at the children's ski school. Special slopes have been created for children's skiing, which are ascended in safe lift cabins.
