The best beaches of Sardinia: an overview. Sardinia - a paradise island in Italy

Accommodation in resort areas is represented by a variety of hotels, apartments and villas. Prices vary greatly, depending on the location of housing, proximity to the beach, and most importantly - the season. So, in winter, the price of accommodation can be up to 50% of the summer cost of the same housing. For example, the cost of living in a 3 * hotel in the resort of Chia (in May) starts from € 65, and in 5 * hotels - from € 350. Renting apartments (two bedrooms) for the summer starts from €500 and up in different parts of the island.

In Sardinia, tourists love to lie on the steepest beaches in Europe, stroll through ancient towns and villages, look at flocks of flamingos in the south of the island, rent the best yacht, try all kinds of water sports, and taste delicious seafood.

It is best to come to the island from May to June and from September to October, when rental prices are lower than in July-August, and there are much fewer tourists.

It rises above the city and the Gulf of Asinara. An elite holiday in this locality involves renting a yacht for the purpose of sailing around the entire northern coast.

Russia does not have regular air links with the island of Sardinia, but during the tourist season they organize charter from major cities- such as Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg. Planes arrive in Sardinia at airport of the capital of the island - Cagliari. However, buying a ticket for such a charter flight is not an easy task, because they are mostly bought by travel companies.

To the city from Cagliari Airport can be reached on a special bus These leave every thirty minutes. They reach the bus station, which is located on the square. Matteotti. The journey takes approx. ten minutes t, the fare is worth four euro. Or use the taxi service.

Due to the complexity of acquiring a ticket for a charter flight, independent travelers will most likely have to travel to Sardinia with transfers. For residents of the capital, as well as St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg, the most suitable option is to purchase a ticket for flight from the company Al Italia with transfer in Rome. So it will be best in terms of saving timeAnd, because this airline, which is the national carrier, has the most convenient connections. In addition, most of the flights from Rome to the island of Sardinia are operated by Al Italia.

And the last option is to fly from Moscow or any other city of any of the European airlines that ... read more

HOLIDAY PRICES:

Cost of holidays in Sardinia. June 2014.

tour cost

Visas + insurance for two cost 120 euros. Tickets for the Vilnius-Rome-Vilnius flight of Ryanair were bought through the network for 250 euros. From St. Petersburg to Vilnius by car and back 100 euros. The car was left with friends for free. From Rome, that is, from Civitavecchia, to Sardinia they traveled by ferry company Saremar. Tickets for it cost 150 euros. Apartment for 10 days - 360 euros, in the area called Isola Rossa, for 36 euros per day. It is more convenient to travel around Sardinia by car. Car rental + gasoline - 250 +150 euros. The car was booked through the well-known Hertz. She was waiting for us at Olbia airport.

All excursions were carried out independently, in a rented car. There are not many sights in the classical sense. But there are a lot of beautiful places, beaches, etc. We went to a picturesque town called Castelcado. So you can see the ruins of an ancient castle and wander through the medieval streets of the center. Santa Teresa has a wonderful beach overlooking Corsica. A liter of gasoline costs 1.4 euros. We spent about 150 euros on gasoline for 10 days.

Food and products

Prices depend on the distance to the beaches and the main tourist routes. There are many chain stores where they are twice or even three times lower. To dine in our understanding, that is, with a hot dish, in a bar or restaurant on the beach, without frills, cost about 20-25 euros per person. Breakfast from 5 to 10 euros. In supermarkets, prices are about the same as ours, or even higher, for example, wines from 10 euros. In a cafe: Pizza - 10-12 euros. Beer - 3-4.5 euros. A cup of coffee - 1 euro. Sandwich - 3-5 euros. Sometimes we cooked ourselves, sometimes we went to a cafe. A day for food took about 50 euros.

Cost of services and entertainment

Umbrella on the beach - 8 euros for the whole day. Chaise lounge - 10 euros. Snorkeling mask - 10 euros. Broke quickly, apparently Chinese. Catamaran on the beach - 10 euros per hour.

June holiday experience

In June it was quite hot, the sea warmed up quite well, there were noticeably fewer people on the beaches than in August. The roads are not congested, prices are lower than at the end of summer. In my opinion, this is a good time to relax.

Why is it better to relax in September?

It seems to me that September is the perfect time for a holiday in Sardinia, if you are not dependent on school holidays. Very warm, few tourists, housing prices are dropping noticeably, lots of local fruits and excellent wine.

Vacation with children

Sardinia has excellent beaches - clean, with good entry into the water and without strong waves near the coast. In terms of the number of children's entertainment, the island noticeably loses to the Spanish resorts, but there are many interesting museums and historical places that are worth seeing at school age.

What to take with you on vacation?

A good guide will not hurt, the island is worth it to carefully examine not the most popular attractions. Good sunscreen and comfortable shoes. Warm clothes if you are going to visit the caves.

Where is the best place to stay?

We have been on the island several times and traveled to most of the resorts, I like the Costa Smeralda in the north and the Maddalena archipelago the most. We went many times and with different budgets, of the hotels I liked the Colonna Resort hotel in the town of Porto Cervo the most - they have wonderful clean pools and a good beach. Sardinia has a large selection of houses, villas, apartments at quite affordable prices, but it makes sense to rent a car - there are a lot of beaches, and it will definitely be interesting to drive along the coast. The Emerald Coast is located near the airport in Olbia, it is easy and quick to get there, in my opinion, this part of the island is more interesting than the south.

What to do at the resort?

First of all, of course, it is worth visiting different beaches - in Sardinia they are amazingly beautiful, clean and quite different.

We liked the caves of Iz Zuddas - inferior to the caves in Mallorca, but still very impressive.

It makes sense to travel around small picturesque towns, go to restaurants. If you are interested in nuraghe, then there are interesting ones in both parts of the island, we were in Prisgiona - it’s hard with children, but still interesting. Almost every city has interesting ruins, churches, basilicas and fortresses. Olbia has a good archaeological museum. If you have time and opportunity, then you should drive to the Maddalena archipelago - it is very beautiful there, on one of the islands there is the house-museum of Garibaldi.

The beaches on the island (especially on the Costa Smeralda) are wonderful, it is very difficult to single out the best one, among not the most popular, but very beautiful, I want to mention the beaches near the village of La Conia (Barka Bruchata and Mannen) - there are several more, you can walk along the small paths.

On the Spiaggia Bianca beach near Golfo Aranci we saw a pod of dolphins several times.

The general impression of the beaches is very good, the sea is clean, there were almost no sea urchins, and there were no jellyfish at all. The bottom is very interesting, you can see octopuses and large fish close to the shore, the sand is fine and very pleasant. The sea is calm, entry into the water is comfortable.

There are sunbeds and umbrellas for rent almost everywhere, often not very new. There are often no showers on the beaches, lifeguards, in my opinion, are not enough.

Of the tangible disadvantages are obsessive African traders, who are quite difficult to drive away.

Despite the fact that Sardinia is not one of the cheap resorts, the prices did not seem wildly high to me. I liked the small shops in Porto Cervo, a good selection of women's cotton clothes in not banal styles. Lots of quality handbags from brands that haven't made your eyes wet yet. Interesting selection of shoes. You can buy great products.

Where can you eat?

I liked Trattoria da Patrizia in Porto Cervo - there are many locals here, the interior is simple, but really delicious.

In the same city, I liked the Accueil restaurant - it was delicious, good dishes and interior.

About the quality of food and service

Most of the restaurants were very tasty, only one was shockingly bad. It was the only one where in the evening almost all the seats were free - apparently, notoriety quickly spreads. The staff is friendly, they do not cheat, they serve quickly.

How much does it cost to eat? About food prices.

At the Accueil restaurant, dinner for two with wine cost about 140 euros, you can eat for 50-60 euros for two. You can take pizza almost everywhere with you.

Entertainment

Entertainment intended for children was not particularly impressive. We were in the dinosaur park - it seemed rather boring, I liked the dinosaur museum in Switzerland in the canton of Zurich much more.

Helpful information?

Driving through panoramic places along the coast, you can enjoy magnificent landscapes with an emerald-colored sea and bizarre granite rocks. The number of yachts of various models and sizes is also striking here. And in the greenery of the Mediterranean vegetation, here and there, the villas of the richest people are buried, such as Silvio Berlusconi, Roman Abramovich, Alisher Usmanov and many others.

The heart of the Costa Smeralda is the town of Porto Cervo.

The incongruous is combined here in an absolutely amazing way: seemingly simple Mediterranean-style huts have sheltered boutiques of famous expensive brands such as Gucci, Valentino, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and many others. In the marina of Porto Cervo there is a luxurious yacht club, where the oligarchs moor their “ship masterpieces” today. Well, in September...

A short guide to Sardinia from personal experience and everything you need to know for a budget trip to the island. Transport, housing and attractions.

This guide will summarize our trip to Sardinia, which lasted 10 days. During the trip, 6 cities were visited, several small tracks were made in the mountains and kilograms of sunlight were absorbed on 12 beaches.

Sardinia guide

Although I spent only 10 days on the island, weeks of preparation preceded this. And now I think that I have something to say for those who come here for the first time and with a small budget.

How to get to Sardinia

In Sardinia, the three main airports that are close to the three most visited cities by tourists are the Airports of Cagliari, Olbia and Alghero. Low-cost low-cost airlines Ryanair, easyJet, Vueling, etc. fly to these airports.

Ryanair flights are worth considering if you're flying from Eastern Europe, while easyJet and Vueling are from Western Europe and England. Budget tourists will be closer to Ryanair with a flight from Poland or Lithuania. There is also an airline, but it mainly operates flights to the island from mainland Italy.

I repeat my advice given a little earlier in another story about Sardinia. In order not to waste time traveling around the island, it is advisable to fly into Cagliari airport and fly out of Alghero airport or vice versa. In this case, there is no need to waste time returning back and you can get approximately the following route around the island with the capture of almost all the most interesting places.

Short information about transfers from all three airports. If you need more information, then follow the links, each airport has a separate more detailed instruction.

  1. : the choice of options is not large - the ALFA city bus for 1 €, the Sassari-Alghero-Bosa intercity bus for 1.3 €. It is better not to use the latter - there is a risk of going in the wrong direction, it costs more and goes less often. will cost 50€.
  2. : a budget option - a train for 1.3 €, tickets are sold at and in vending machines, to search, enter the Cagliari Elmas and Cagliari stops. Option for a large company with luggage for 35€.
  3. : the easiest and cheapest way is city buses 2 and 10 for 1€, which will take you in just 5-10 minutes. A taxi costs a fixed 15€, but it is also possible with a meeting at the airport for 30-40€.

Transport in Sardinia

It is easy to get around the island by public transport without renting a car. More details about this in a separate instruction, and below is a brief information on transport.

For long distances, Trenitalia and ARST carriers travel around the island, and local transport companies in cities. Intercity buses and trains are air-conditioned and have comfortable seats, and since the trip usually takes no more than 3 hours, you won’t get tired.

Trenitalia trains:

Unlike mainland Italy, trains are rarely late here, as the transport network is much smaller. Trenitalia trains connect almost all major cities on the island with the exception of Alghero and Nuoro.

Trenitalia train tickets it is better to buy in Russian without any extra charges, since the official site is very confusing. Tickets bought online are valid for 4 hours from the date of departure for any train and you don't have to worry about being late.

ARST buses and trains:

The company represents almost all intercity transport on the island, and sometimes urban transport. These are mainly buses, but there are also trains for short distances. The company's website has a schedule of all buses. See the page for bus and train fares.

Finding accommodation in Sardinia

About finding accommodation, I repeat the same advice that I give in my travel stories. I will bring them here, because they really help to find a suitable option and at the same time not overpay.

Hotels in Sardinia:

If you prefer hotels, then in order not to overpay, use this site does not book rooms, but indicates where to book them without overpaying. When booking hotels, be sure to use it will save 10-20%.

Apartments in Sardinia:

Apartments are often cheaper than hotels and this option is for those who want to feel like a local. The apartments have the opportunity to cook, which means you will reduce the cost of food. The largest number of offers of apartments and even rooms for a day on a site that has been proven over the years.

In order to leave only positive impressions from your stay on vacation, follow one very important tip - book accommodation with a lot of good reviews and avoid trouble.

Read about your personal experience of finding accommodation and reviews of real apartments in Sardinia in three stories:

Sights of Sardinia

The main attraction of the island of Sardinia is the ancient Nuraghi from the civilization that lived here for 2000 years BC. and disappeared like Atlantis. But if there are no traces of Atlantis at all, then at least something remains here, and while historians and scientists argue about the origin and purpose of these structures, we, as tourists, will appreciate their mystery even more.

Su Nuraxi di Barumini

The largest nuraghe complex is located near the town of Barumini. The easiest way to get here on your own from Cagliari is by bus or ARST for 4.9 €. Nuraghe di Barumini is located outside the city, 1.5 km from its center.

Another solution on how to get to nuraghe will be to order an excursion in Russian, the price of which includes a transfer from Cagliari.

Cagliari is the capital of the island and the largest city on the island. It is good to start diving into Sardinia with it, as all the next cities on the island will be smaller, and the feeling of the real spirit of Sardinia is getting closer.

I will name the TOP that you need to visit to put a tick - I was here. If you need more than just a checkmark about visiting the city, then it’s worth making two small tracks that will take a maximum of 1 day - this and

This picturesque island has a lot to offer for any tourist: breathtaking scenery, pristine coastline with deserted beaches and clear turquoise sea, exclusive hotels... Everywhere you go, there will be a stunning coastline with beautiful bays, amazing and not at all commercialized cities and villages with welcoming and friendly locals, mountainous areas with beautiful views of the island, refreshing lakes and waterfalls, and, of course, interesting history and magnificent architecture.

Those who have never been to Sardinia before expect to see a miniature replica of the Italian mainland. However, the second largest island in the Mediterranean is different. Yes, politically it is part of Italy, but it has its own character and cultural characteristics. What Sardinia has in common with its Italian neighbor is the same passion for food and wine.

History, architecture... Every city in Sardinia is unique

Located in the center of the Mediterranean Sea, almost at an equal distance from the mainland of Italy and from the coast of North Africa, which provides it with a fairly mild climate. Sardinia, with its wide white sandy beaches and azure waters, can easily compete with the tropics. The location in the center means that over the centuries, different civilizations have made their mark on the island, from the Romans to the most recent visitors, the Catalans. Each nation has brought a piece of its history, adding something else to the island's unique cultural mosaic: Roman ruins, Pisan churches, Spanish cathedrals...

Seven different civilizations left their mark on architecture the capital of the island - Cagliari. The sights of the city include the Roman amphitheater and the Cathedral, which is a mixture of Gothic and Baroque. The capital, as it should be, is quite noisy and cosmopolitan, but Oristano more calm and elegant. Alghero, in the north of Sardinia, has a fascinating history and keeps the memory of its Spanish colonizers. A strong touch of everything Catalan can be seen everywhere, even here they still speak this language. The city has a delightful old center, which is a pleasure to walk around. Quite lively and attractive Iglesias also preserved the Spanish heritage.

Islands Sant'Antioco And San Pietro, off the coast of Southwest Sardinia, are charming and not yet too spoiled by civilization. Nautical Santa Teresa resort offers tourists all its attractions and a beautiful coastline without a touch of glossy sheen Costa Smeralda. Further east is a picturesque coast Palau and archipelago La Maddalena with the national park. Away from the coast, the landscape can be just as stunningly beautiful with its pastoral exoticism: forested mountain peaks, valleys of citrus groves and pastures with herds of goats and sheep. Traditional culture can be seen in the heart of the island, where older women are still dressed in black. True, in some towns, frankly, it is rather boring and dull. But most of the places are extremely interesting, for example, a small but beautiful medieval Bosa city in the west, with very colorful pinkish-gold buildings, unpolluted beaches and wildlife. Or Orgosolo, famous for its murals - paintings on the walls of houses.

Sights of Sardinia

But Sardinia is not only sun, beautiful beaches and amazing landscapes. The culture, traditions and history of the ancient heritage add to the charm of this island and make it attractive all year round. Archaeological monuments are found throughout Sardinia and testify to its great past. In the south, in the city Nora, you can see stunning ancient ruins. There was once an ancient Phoenician center, which was further developed in the Roman era.

Strange stone buildings are scattered all over the island. Call them nuraghi- These are the oldest buildings in Sardinia. It is not known for certain when, by whom and for what purpose they were erected, but local residents believe that staying in these buildings has a positive effect on health. Maybe this is a common tale for gullible tourists, but many believe and conduct "recovery" sessions.

The beaches of Sardinia

Beaches with the finest white sand and turquoise-emerald waters, forested valleys, silent cliffs, cozy harbours, charismatic cities - the charm of a holiday in Sardinia is in its diversity. But still, the bulk of tourists come here for a beach holiday.

The north and northeast (from Stintino to Budoni) boast many beautiful beaches. The east and south coasts are also very interesting: Gala Gonone, Arbatax, Muravera, Villasimius and pool are great places for family holidays. Noisy, well-equipped, tourist city Villasimius is an ideal base from which to explore the southern part of the island. The west coast has many kilometers of beaches: Porto Pino, Marina di Arbus. The latter is famous for the Piscinas beach, on which 60 meter sand dunes rise. And, of course, Alghero with its underwater caves and grottoes, which attract many diving enthusiasts. The beaches here are magnificent: long, with fine white sand framed by lush vegetation. By the way, in Allegro you can buy coral jewelry, but you have to be ready to pay a decent amount for them, because prices start at 100 euros: what can you do, everything natural is expensive.

Some interesting facts

Everyone knows that the island gave its name to the fish. The sardonic smile also owes its origin to Sardinia, because it is on this island that a poisonous plant grows that causes paralysis with a frozen grimace of laughter on the face. Sardinia, along with the Japanese island of Okinawa, has the highest rate of centenarians in the world, perhaps thanks to fantastically clean air and a peculiar diet that even includes cheese with live fly larvae, which is considered a powerful aphrodisiac. It may be a coincidence, but the traditional greeting in Sardinia is "kent" annos - a wish to live to be 100 years old.

Ringo Starr visited Sardinia in 1968 on Peter Sellers' yacht. Listening to the captain's story about amazing creatures - octopuses, who arrange something like a garden of beautiful pebbles in front of the entrance to their caves, the musician was so amazed that he almost immediately picked up the guitar and came up with a song. This is how The Beatles' Octopus Garden was born. tiny island Asinara off the coast of Sardinia is home to a colony of 250 miniature white donkeys and, according to the 2001 census, only one person lives there.

Holidays in Sardinia are unique

Holidays in Sardinia are unique because this exquisite island is a magical mixture of amazing culture, magnificent beaches and picturesque landscapes that will surprise even the most sophisticated tourist. Hotels in Sardinia

Undoubtedly, an unforgettable holiday in Sardinia depends on choosing the right place to stay, so start your search or compare hotel prices in advance using the most popular Booking.com service, or use their search form, which is located on our website :

Transport in Sardinia

Sardinia is the only region in Italy that does not have toll motorways. But everything roads are in excellent condition, with clear markings and signs. One disadvantage is that in some places they are very narrow, it is especially scary to drive through sharp mountain turns. Speed limits in built-up areas 50 km/h, on motorways 130 km/h.

For those who do not want to rent a car, the best option to explore the island is buses and trains. But it is worth considering that in sparsely populated towns there are no railway stations at all, and buses can only come once a day. And you can get to very remote villages. Therefore, you should think about renting a car when going to Sardinia - because you will have the opportunity to see many more remote and charming places.

Demand for rental cars tends to increase in July and August, so it's best to book in advance. Today it is possible online, and in our experience the best sites for booking a car are:

  • Many petrol stations only accept local credit cards or only cash.

And yet, if you decide to use public transport services (buses), then tickets can be purchased at the box office of the railway station, at Western Union points, or in the bars closest to the stops. If for some reason you did not have time to buy a ticket, you can buy it directly from the driver. And yet, the flight schedule may be limited on Sunday.

  • Railways in Sardinia are operated by such operators as Trenitalia and APST Gestione FDS.

Culinary traditions of the island of Sardinia

The sausages and cheeses of Sardinia are among the best in Italy. Especially appreciated pecorino sardo cheese made from the milk of local sheep.

Although the local cheeses are very tasty and appreciated in Italy, there are also not very common ones. One of them, its peculiarity is that it contains live insect larvae (cheese fly). Many of our fellow citizens have no idea what it is, because you won’t find it in our kitchen, so I suggest watching a short video about Casu Marzu cheese:

One of the traditional dishes of Sardinia can be called Porceddu - this pig roasted on a spit. However, its weight should not exceed 5 kilograms.

Of course, seafood also plays an important role in Sardinian cuisine, especially dishes from shellfish, tuna, mullet, lobsters and squid.

The traditional pasta of Sardinia can be called malloreddus, while different sauces can be used here, but the pasta itself remains unchanged.

Another dish that any good hostess of the island knows how to cook is culurgiones. According to the cooking technology, it is somewhat reminiscent of our dumplings, but potatoes, pecorino cheese, fresh mint and garlic are used as fillings.

A popular service in Sardinia is the rental of yachts and boats. Renting a boat will cost approximately 70-90 € (one day). Yachts are a little more expensive and most likely you can rent for at least a week.

Also do not miss the opportunity to take a boat cruise around archipelago Maddalena, a tour with food tasting, as well as visit a real Italian family and get a master class in cooking dinner - see detailed information about all excursions in Sardinia.

Porto Pollo is a great place for lovers of water skiing, windsurfing and kitesurfing.

Sardinia is also a great place for sailing and diving. .

Souvenirs

Sardinia is famous for its handicraft shops and local delicacies, so there will be no particular difficulty in what to bring from the island. Different areas are famous for their handicraft traditions. Baskets woven by local women are very common. Ceramics is an integral part of the history of Sardinia, while very popular are blue painted ceramics on a white background. They can be found in almost any souvenir shop on the island. .

Finally, a video about a holiday in Sardinia (not very short, but very beautiful):
