The Airbus A321 is a medium-haul, twin-engine airliner developed by the united European concern Airbus S.A.S, whose sole shareholder today is the European Aerospace and Defense Concern (EDSA).

The Airbus A321 is part of the A320 family of narrow-body passenger aircraft designed for medium-haul airlines. This model is the "largest" in its family - the A321 is longer than the original model, the A320, by almost seven meters. This allows the aircraft to carry 24 percent more passengers. It also has a more reinforced chassis. The flight radius, when fully loaded, is the same as that of the youngest member of the family - the Airbus A318.

The A321 performance in terms of noise, emissions and fuel consumption is almost the same as that of the entire A320 series. The aircraft is equipped with EFIS avionics and a fly-by-wire digital control system, completely identical to the A320 aircraft.

Today, the A321 version is assembled at a facility located in the small German airport Hamburg-Finkenwerder, in contrast to the A320, which are assembled mainly in the French town of Toulouse.

The A321 development program was launched in 1989, with the main goal of competing with the American.

The aircraft was not only lengthened compared to the base model. The changes also affected the engines, the power of which was increased. The wing of the aircraft was reinforced and designed for higher loads compared to the wing of the A320.

The first version of the aircraft received the designation A321-100. The first flight of this version took place on March 11, 1993. This model used IAE-V2500 (International Aero Engines) engines. Version with engines CFM-56, power 133 kN, made the first test flight in May of the same year. The flight range of this version of the airliner averaged 4,500 kilometers. The aircraft was certified in early December 1994. After that, he began to enter the airline. The first air carriers to receive the Airbus A321 were the German Lufthansa and the Italian airline Alitalia.

In 1995, work began on the next modification of the aircraft, which received the designation A321-200. This model has additional fuel tanks, which made it possible to extend the flight range to 5550 kilometers. The first flight of the A321-200 took place in 1996.

Salon airbus A321

There are several options for the layout of the passenger compartment in the Airbus A321:

  1. The economical version is capable of carrying up to 200 passengers.
  2. The charter layout of the cabin is capable of accommodating 220 passenger seats.
  3. The two-class configuration has 185 seats.

The A321 has six passenger doors and eight emergency exits located on two sides of the aircraft.

Today, the A321 aircraft is in demand among air carriers and orders for its construction continue to arrive.

Airbus A321 video

The Airbus 321 is the largest aircraft of the 320 family produced by the Airbus concern. The first flight was made in 1992. Aircraft production continues to this day. According to the latest information from the company, in 2018 it is planned to assemble up to 60 aircraft per month. In terms of its technical characteristics and maintenance, it differs little from the prototype - the 320th, but due to more powerful engines it is able to carry more passengers and luggage.

The aircraft is assembled for a specific order - the customer is offered only an economy class version with a capacity of 220 people or a business/economy class with a capacity of 185 people.

Story

The French company began to assemble the prototype of the 320th back in 1972. In the 90s, the 319th version first appeared, the main difference of which is the fuselage shortened by 7 meters. The remaining parameters repeat the 320th. The first "Airbus" received a fuselage 7 meters longer than the prototype and in 1992 had the shortest flight range among the entire 320 family. Then, with modernization, the aircraft received enhanced brakes, more powerful engines and an additional tank located in the tail section of the cabin. the development was not planned, unlike plans for the 320, to compete with the Americans, but the appearance of the Boeing 757 on the market forced the company to reconsider the release of the 321, and the current model, 321-200, is a worthy competitor to the 757 , slightly inferior in flight range, but having a more spacious fuselage.

The first customer for the aircraft of the new model was the German Lufthansa. Aircraft 321-100 flew into her hangars in early 1995. At the end of 1996, the first Airbus 321-200 took off.

Interior layouts by the customer

As already mentioned, the customer receives one of two layout options at the factory. However, that's not all. During operation, the customer can change the number of seats himself and thus re-equip the aircraft to carry more or fewer passengers. The documentation for the aircraft indicates how the cabin can be reconfigured. "Airbus 321" has a wide range of layouts. From economy class, where there will be 6 seats in a row, three on each side of the aisle, to business class, where 4 seats will already be installed in a row. It is also allowed to arrange in a wide frame. There are only two restrictions - in any layout, the aircraft will have 1 aisle with seats on both sides of the aisle. The second limitation is inherent in the design: at the end of the aircraft there will be only 2 seats, one on each side of the aisle, and 2 rows opposite the emergency doors also have 4 seats in any layout.

Selecting a seat on the plane

Even a short flight can be a burden if you sit down and find that the design of the liner does not recline the backs of your seats, or people constantly walk past you on their way to the bathroom. So there are a number of questions you should ask yourself before flying. For example, this: "Do you like to watch the flight?" If you like, you need to choose seats by the windows, bearing in mind that wings will be located opposite some, and all you will see is the movement of automation during takeoff, landing, changing direction.

Rows from 15th to 22nd in the Airbus 321 economy class have such a disadvantage. In addition, the 25th row, being located in front of the second emergency exit, does not have the ability to recline the chair. At the same time, these seats are considered ideal for traveling couples, since in this row, even in the economy, there are only 4 seats, 2 on each side of the aisle.

But if the plane flies at night, choosing a seat near the windows will not work, but being in the rows in front of emergency exits can deliver many unpleasant minutes due to locked backs. In addition to the 25th, the backs are also blocked in the 10th row, but, unlike the 25th, the economy class here includes 6 seats, three on each side of the aisle. The numbering is given for the economy class of the Airbus 321 aircraft. The best seats, other than those already mentioned, are in the 11th row - two seats on each side of the aisle, and there is an opportunity to stretch your legs. These places are located behind the first emergency exit. Passengers seated in row 26 will also be able to stretch their legs, with emergency exit number two in front of them. This is how the planes of the Ural Airlines company are assembled.

At the same time, the Lufthansa official website states that in the 10th row, the 321st airliner has only 2 seats - on the right side. The left side of the row is free.

Plans and schemes

For a better understanding, here are a couple of aircraft diagrams in two use cases. The Poles fly only the economy class, the Germans use the planes both in the economy version and in the business/economy version.

This is how the Airbus 321 scheme (Poland) looks like, the cabin scheme is also suitable for illustrating Ural Airlines aircraft. The 321st company uses only in the economy version. The 11th and 26th rows are considered ideal. Seats at the windows in the 26th row, due to the emergency exit directly in front of them, may have some changes. Since there are only 4 seats in the 11th row, lovers of stretching their legs can also be advised to 12th row - two places at the windows.

But for comparison, the scheme of the airbus used by Lufthansa. The Germans use both economy and business/economy aircraft. However, only the first rows differ. The rest is as described above. The 10th row is shortened, due to which in the 11th row there are 4 places from the category of the best. And due to the lack of one seat in the 25th row, the person who bought the 27D seat will also get the opportunity to stretch their legs.

Ural Airlines is one of the most experienced airlines in Russia. The company is engaged in passenger transportation within the country and in international directions. The main office can be found in the city of Yekaterinburg. The bases of such airports as Koltsovo (Yekaterinburg), Domodedovo (Moscow), Kurumoch (Samara) and Balandino (Chelyabinsk) are used. In addition, there is a hub at the Zhukovsky airport.

As of September 2018, there are 46 Airbus aircraft in the fleet. Of these, 7 models are A319-100, 24 are A320-200 and 15 are A321-200. All devices were previously used by other aviation companies and were released between 1998 and 2006. Thus, the planes of the Ural company are used and already quite old.

Airbus A321 aircraft: General information

A321 is designed to cover medium distances. During the development, the A320 base was partially used. The development of the aircraft began in 1989. The assembly was carried out by representatives of the German DASA plant. Initially, the device was produced in the A321-100 configuration, but then machines of the A321-200 type began to appear, which are now available in the Ural Airlines company.

The length of the Airbus A321 is 44.5 m, the height is 11.8 m, the wingspan is at the level of 35.8 m. The aircraft is capable of flying up to 5.6 km. Due to the narrow-body design, there is only one passage between the seats in the cabin. In addition, engineers used wings with wingtips that increase aerodynamic performance. Thus, the A321 can fly longer distances with less fuel. It follows that refueling the airliner is cheaper for the company, and, accordingly, this affects the cost of the ticket.

A321 has 2 emergency exits in the forward fuselage and the same number in the tail. In addition, there are 2 emergency hatches in the center of the structure on each side.

A321 Ural Airlines: Cabin layout

Aircraft A321-200, which are used on the flights of the Russian company, have a layout with one class - economy. In total, the cabin has 220 seats and 38 rows with three seats on both sides, but there are exceptions. Only a few of them have features. As for all the other chairs, they cannot boast of special space. Thus, people of non-standard build may feel discomfort during flights.

  • 1st row. These places are located right next to the partition with a kitchen and a toilet. Because of this, passengers can hear a lot of noise and smell food. The downside is the wall in front. However, the advantage is that during the flight it will be possible to comfortably settle down due to the sufficient space in front of the seats.
  • 10th row. The seats in this row are directly in front of the second pair of emergency exits. For safety reasons, the backs of such seats cannot recline, so the passenger will have to fly vertically.
  • 11th row. Has two chairs on each side. Due to the emergency exit area, there will be plenty of legroom up front. However, instead of portholes, only an emergency exit door is offered. The staff does not allow you to put things on the emergency passage. Also, people with disabilities, elderly passengers, pregnant women, customers with small children and animals will not be placed in these seats. However, these chairs are considered among the best options.
  • 12th row. We are talking about seats A and F. In addition to the fact that they are located near the windows, there are no seats in front of them yet. This allows you to stretch your legs and feel more comfortable. These are the best seats on the plane.
  • 25th row. It has the same disadvantages as the 10th row. The difference is only in the number of seats, since there are 2 of them on each side. This is a great option for people traveling as a couple.
  • 26th row. The seats are located after the emergency exit. Armchairs located directly next to the windows do not have a second armrest on the left and right sides, respectively. Otherwise, everything is exactly the same as in the 11th row.
  • 37th row. Not very good chairs due to the close distance to the toilet. On the left, three seats cannot recline.
  • 38th row. Two places are set right next to the toilet. Other people may be standing next to passengers waiting for their turn to use the toilet. Also, the backs of the seats do not recline, since a partition is installed at the back.

Note! The best seats for those who are afraid to fly on airplanes may be seats in rows 10, 11, 12, 25 and 26. Only we are talking about the airbus a321 model.

Comparison of aircraft A320 and A321

If we talk about comparing these two machines, then you should immediately pay attention to the dimensions. Unlike the A320, the new modification has become longer. Also increased the weight of the entire structure. A321 weighs 89 tons. Such parameters have affected the position of the aircraft in the approach speed category, since it is now in group D.

Due to the increase in the size of this narrow-body model, the number of seats in the cabin has become larger. There are only 158 of them in the A320. At the same time, there is a division into classes. From here came 12 seats in business class and 146 seats in economy class. In this regard, the A321 is easier, because the class layout is single. As previously mentioned, there are 220 seats in the cabin of this unit.

A320 Ural Airlines (cabin diagram)

In the new design, the engineers did not provide for the installation of emergency exits directly above the wing.

Scheme of the Airbus A321 apparatus for other Russian airlines

In addition to Ural Airlines, the Airbus A321 is also used by other representatives of the domestic air and cargo transportation market. It is worth noting that some firms have a slightly different cabin layout for this aircraft.

Aeroflot

Aeroflot's A321 is distinguished by its layout with two classes of service - business and economy. The first has seven rows with four chairs in each. There is a passage in the center between the pairs of seats. The first and last rows have partitions, which can slightly reduce the level of comfort.

In the economy section there are such zones:

  • 9-30th row - ordinary places;
  • 8th and 19th row - BCDE places of the SPACE + level;
  • 20th row - AF seats with an increased level of comfort;
  • 31st row - places with limited space and not reclining back.

"Kolavia"

In the A321 of this carrier, the seating arrangement is the same as that of Ural Airlines. The total number of seats in the cabin is 220. Here it will be most comfortable in seats A and F of the 10th row. The zone of the entire 26th row is also perfect.

Utair

Salon A321 has a mono-class layout and can accommodate up to 220 people. If we talk about the best and worst places, then the situation here is the same as that of the two previous firms.

  • Seats should be chosen in advance, especially if the flight will be with a child;
  • When flying with a transfer, it is better to choose seats closer to the exit;
  • It is worth booking a seat on the plane in advance, but you will have to pay extra for this;
  • If it is inconvenient for a passenger to sit in his seat in the cabin, then if there are other free ones, it is better to change it.

Ural Airlines (aircraft)

The Airbus 321 aircraft of Ural Airlines is an excellent option for low-cost airlines. Due to its increased capacity and economy, flights are slightly cheaper.

The Airbus A321 is a stretched version of the A320. This is the largest aircraft of the A320 family. The standard configuration of the Airbus A321 accommodates 185 passengers in a two-class cabin (16 in first class and 169 in economy class).

This configuration can be expanded to 220 seats for charter and low-cost operators, in which case the aircraft cabin will be mono-class - only economy class seats. And the number of different cabin configurations can number dozens.

In order to know exactly which places in the A321 are the best, you need to familiarize yourself with the scheme of the aircraft in which you will fly. But often, to understand the principle of choice, it is enough to familiarize yourself with any scheme.

Let's take a look at the Airbus A321 configuration used by Russia's most popular airline. In total, there are 37 A321 aircraft in the air carrier's fleet.

So, on the official website of the airline, we can see 3 different layouts of the A321 cabin. The first one looks like this -

Let's look at it in detail, note the best seats on this plane and explain what the difference is between them and other seats in the cabin.

The best places for Airbus A321 Aeroflot. Scheme one

The cabin in this configuration has 28 business class seats and 142 economy class staff service seats. Of all the aircraft in this configuration, 17 boards are made: VP-BUM, VP-BUP, VQ-BEA, VQ-BED, VQ-BEE, VQ-BEF, VQ-BEG, VQ-BEL, VQ-BHK, VQ-BHM, VQ-BOH, VQ-BOI, VP-BDC, VP-BOC, VP-BOE, VP-BTG, VP-BTL, VP-BTR.

Seats in row 1-7 These are business class seats. Rows 1 and 7 are considered slightly worse than the rest, since there is a partition in front of the first row, there is enough space there, but proximity to the toilets can be a little worrying.

And seats in row 7 are close to the noisier economy class.

If you are going to fly business class, take seats from 2 to 6 rows.

Seats in row 8 One of the best economy class seats on board this ship. It's all about the emergency exit located in front of them. There is much more legroom here. Also, you can get up from any of them without disturbing your neighbors.

Another plus is that the seats are in front of the cabin. As a rule, food and drinks are served from the beginning to the end, and you will have a large selection. These are places of increased comfort.

Seats in row 18 This row is the usual standard economy class seats. But the location near the toilets makes them not very comfortable. There will often be a “queue” for the restroom near you and the constant walking of people will be distracting.

Seats in row 19 Places located behind the emergency exit. Just like in the 8th row, there is a lot of free legroom. And everything would be fine, but the proximity to the toilets is, in our opinion, not the best. Therefore, it is yellow.

Seats in row 20 The chairs located near the windows are very comfortable. There is a lot of free space, there is where to stretch your legs and you can stand up without problems, and look out the window.

Seats in row 30, C and D Proximity to toilets can be inconvenient.

Seats in row 31 Separately, we note the last, 31 row. These places are not only located near the toilets and there will often be a “queue” for the restroom near you, but they do not recline at all, since there is a wall immediately behind them. These places are the worst, take them when there are simply no other options.

The best places for Airbus A321 Aeroflot. Scheme two

The second cabin layout of this aircraft has 16 business and 167 economy seats on board. The following liners are made in this cabin configuration: VP-BJX, VP-BEW, VP-BKI, VP-BAE, VP-BAF, VP-BAY, VP-BJX, VP-BAZ, VP-BFF, VP-BJX, VP- BFQ, VP-BFK, VP-BJX, VP-BFX, VP-BJX, VP-BKQ.

The schematic image shows the best and worst seats in the cabin. Choose them according to the same principle as in the first case.

Scheme of the cabin Airbus A321 Aeroflot. Third option

This cabin configuration is the smallest, it is used on only 6 sides: VP-BAV, VP-BAX, VP-BEG, VP-BES, VP-BEA, VP-BEE. All categories of seats in the cabin are indicated in the figure.

  • Carefully study the scheme of the liner on which you will fly. It can be viewed on our website or on the official website of the air carrier
  • Follow the advice we've given
  • At the check-in desk, check with the airline representative for details. Tell him your wishes, where would you like to sit during the flight
  • Do not take places in the very tail, close to toilets, kitchens and other technical rooms
  • Do not take seats that do not recline or are limited in this
  • Do not take seats directly in front of which the partition is located

What is the Airbus A321, where to look at the cabin map, how to choose the best seats in Aeroflot - hardly anyone thought about these issues when buying tickets.

Recently, passenger air transportation has become increasingly popular. Of course, it is more convenient and reliable than traveling by land. Yes, and you can save time, especially if you need to get somewhere urgently.

Aeroflot's popular airliner is the Airbus A321. People who travel little do not know what kind of aircraft it is and what comfort awaits them. But, as with other aircraft, the main thing is to choose the right places for travel.

Consider the advantages and disadvantages of flying on the A321 airliner, the Aeroflot cabin layout, the modification of the Airbus and the best seats.

Description of the Airbus A321 and its technical characteristics

Airbus A321-200

Passenger aircraft. He became the next model after the A320.

Appeared on Russian airlines in 1994. Airbus is the main developer.

But, despite the fact that the liner has been produced for more than a decade, its production continues to this day. This is due to the reliability of the aircraft and the high need for use in passenger transportation.

In total, there are two Airbus A321 models, which is confirmed by Wikipedia, they have a different modification - A321-100 and A321-200:

  1. A321-100 was developed by the company's employees in 1993. In the same year, the aircraft took off into the sky and passed its certification. Since the aircraft has proven itself on the positive side, in 1993 it began to be mass-produced. And, importantly, Airbuses of this modification are produced to this day.
  2. A321-200 with an increased takeoff weight, as well as an increased flight range. The liner was developed over two years from 1994 to 1996. Initially created as a competitor to the Boeing liner, the German company became the customer who first bought the aircraft. They ordered the plane even when it was not launched into mass production. Given the reliable technical characteristics, the aircraft is still being produced today.

Technical characteristics of the liner:

  1. In flight, it reaches a speed of 890 km / h.
  2. The flight range with a maximum load is 6000 km without refueling.
  3. The maximum A321 can climb to a height of 11,900 km.
  4. The engine installed on the aircraft was manufactured by Airbus and belongs to the CFMI CFM56-5A/5B modification.
  5. The wingspan is 34.1 meters.
  6. The height of the aircraft is about 12 meters.
  7. The cabin of aircraft of various modifications practically does not differ from one another. Thanks to this, pilots can transfer from one to another without any problems.
  8. The aircraft is 44.51 meters long.
  9. In flight, it shows quite decent performance, since fuel consumption is minimal.
  10. The airliners are equipped with reliable engines, and therefore each passenger can be calm for their safety in flight.

It is worth noting: In 2015, the Airbus was modified and new engines were installed on the aircraft, which gives even greater confidence in comfort and safety.

The main distinguishing feature of Airbus aircraft is that all cockpits are made according to the same principle. Therefore, it is enough for a pilot to complete one course, and after that he can operate a passenger liner, and then a cargo one.

Location of seats

Aeroflot uses two types of Airbus A321 for passenger transportation. How many places are there? One is an economy class and is designed for 220 seats, and the second combines business class and economy seats. This liner is designed for 185 passenger seats. Consider the location of the seats in the Airbus 321 two-class layout, since this type is in great demand.

Seats in the Airbus A321 by modifications

As in other aircraft, the business class is located in the bow of the liner. According to the Airbus Industrie A321 scheme, business class is rows from one to seven. The seats are actually worth choosing, as the distance between the seats is large enough and you can walk freely. In addition, the chairs themselves are more comfortable and the menu is the most diverse.

The most popular are the places that are located by the window or porthole. This is due to the fact that those passing by do not disturb the tourists. And of course - an unforgettable view from the window.

But, even in the business class there are places that are not entirely successful for passengers, and this can be seen in the photo of the Airbus 321 cabin. For example, seats on the first and seventh rows. This is due to the fact that the first row is located near the toilets, and the seventh row is located next to the service premises. As a result, there will be a constant movement of passengers and staff. Also, given the proximity of the location, the light will be constantly on both day and night, so it is unlikely that you will be able to sleep. The seventh row is also not worth choosing, since immediately behind it is a partition leading to the economy class. Therefore, the sounds coming from the neighboring cabin will not let you rest in flight.

We go to the economy class cabin. Looking at it, we can immediately say that the location of the seats in the Airbus A321 of this type is not very convenient. Firstly, there is only one passage, and the seats are arranged three in a row. Here are places from 8 to 31. But despite the fact that these places are lower class, the seats themselves are quite comfortable and practically do not differ from the first salon.

Note: when choosing seats in economy class, it is better to opt for seats in row 8. This is due to the fact that only a partition remains in front of the seats. They are especially convenient for tall people, as there is where to stretch your legs.

You can also opt for seats in the 20th row with designations A and F. There is also a large space in front of the seats.

We have considered more convenient places. But, as in the other liner, there are bad places here, tickets for which are not worth buying. These are places located in rows 19 and 18, 31. They are also located next to the toilet, so you should not opt for them.

We have decided on the choice of places. Let's see what they say about the advantages and disadvantages of the A321.

How to choose the right seats in the Airbus A321

General recommendations on how to choose the best places:

  1. In order to move on to choosing a seat, focusing on the Airbus 321 seating plan, it is enough to start by deciding in which class you will fly.
  2. If this is an economy class, then you should not choose seats in the last row, and the seats located next to the aisle are not entirely suitable if you plan to relax on the flight.
  3. When choosing seats in business class, you should not opt for the first row seats, because, given the high traffic, you will not be able to spend time calmly in flight.
  4. In addition, when choosing seats, be sure to pay attention to how much you are willing to spend on buying a ticket. Business class is much more expensive than economy class. Therefore, places in places, but you should not forget about the financial side of the issue.

Based on the plan of the Airbus 321 aircraft, you will be able to make the right choice.

Airbus A321 positive and negative points

First about the benefits:

  • despite the fact that the first liner was launched from the assembly line more than 20 years ago, its main advantage is its excellent performance, primarily flight performance;
  • the carrying capacity is quite decent compared to other aircraft;
  • sufficient passenger capacity;
  • the passenger compartment is quite spacious;
  • high sound insulation allows you to relax and enjoy the flight during the flight.

In fact, the liner is comfortable, it is convenient, quiet and comfortable.

But among the positive qualities, there are also negative ones. One of them is that its first release was many years ago. That is why a large number of competitors have appeared in modern aircraft construction, which can compete both in terms of comfort and technical characteristics.

Despite the fact that in the modern world of airliners there is a large choice, most often passengers opt for the A321 series aircraft. It is in it that you can sit comfortably.

In addition, if you use Aeroflot services, you get a number of advantages:

  • the professionalism of the pilots and personnel is striking;
  • the cost of tickets is more favorable than in commercial companies;
  • thanks to the right approach to their duties, employees provide their passengers with greater reliability and comfort.

When choosing comfortable seats for your trip, pay attention to the Airbus 321 seating chart. After all, how you spend your time in flight depends on the right choice.
