Open left menu heviz. Budapest - Heviz: how to get from the airport How many km from Budapest to Lake Heviz

Heviz is a living dream for everyone who wants to escape from the hustle and bustle and, at least for a short time, plunge into a measured, comfortable and carefree life, improve their health, and enjoy the moment. This is a charming European town with all the attributes of it: neat streets, flower beds, cozy cafes. But the center of universal attraction is the thermal lake of the same name, the largest not only in Hungary, but throughout Europe. It is fed by a powerful underground source, which provides high water temperature, its constant renewal, and dense steam above the surface.

You can swim in Heviz all year round, admiring the lilies imported from India and watching how your well-being and mood improve. If you wish, you should go on an excursion to the surrounding palaces and fortresses or to the nearby Lake Balaton. The main thing is not to strain yourself: here they even swim in inflatable rings - this is what doctors recommend, and holidaymakers are happy to give up the only care possible here.

And this is only for the better: walking through picturesque areas in pleasant weather is a very special pleasure. But if you want to explore the surrounding area, you can’t do without public transport. Most routes to neighboring cities - Tapolca, Siofok, Marzali - run through Keszthely. Weather in Heviz

Treatment in Heviz

Lake Heviz is of volcanic origin; the mineral springs that feed it are hidden in a cave at a depth of 38 m, while the depth of the reservoir itself is no more than 2 m. Both the surface area (47.5 thousand sq. m) and the water temperature ( in summer +33...+36 °C, in winter +24...+28 °C). You can swim in the lake all year round: for maximum comfort of vacationers, an indoor swimming pool has been built here. The water, saturated with carbon dioxide, radon, sulfur and thorium, is completely renewed every 48 hours. It is not surprising that it is also useful to take it internally: holidaymakers visit the pump room no less often than the bathhouse. The dense steam that constantly envelops the surface of the lake also has a healing effect on the body.

Heviz sanatoriums offer patients a whole range of health treatments: mineral water, massage, mud applications, carbon dioxide baths, therapeutic exercises, electrotherapy, exposure to contrasting temperatures and other effective methods.

Indications: diseases of the musculoskeletal system (including ankylosing spondylitis, arthrosis, gout, scoliosis, osteochondrosis, lesions of the intervertebral discs), diseases of the peripheral nervous system (neuralgia, sciatica, lumbago, etc.), gastrointestinal disorders, gynecological diseases, diseases of the ENT organs, post-traumatic and postoperative rehabilitation.

Half of the mud that settles to the bottom of the lake consists of organic deposits (mainly of plant origin) with a high content of iodine and estrogen, has good hydrophilicity and high heat capacity, and is therefore also ideal for treatment.

Contraindications: malignant tumors, heart failure, uncompensated thyroid diseases, subcompensated diabetes mellitus, thrombophlebitis, hemophilia, bronchial asthma with frequent attacks, diseases of the hematopoietic organs, radiation sickness, pregnancy and lactation.

Heviz Hotels

Several dozen hotels are open on the coast of Lake Heviz, almost all of them with high-quality rooms, excellent service and modern wellness opportunities. Most hotels are 3-4* categories, the most fashionable is Lotus Therme Hotel & Spa, which is so far the only “five” at the resort. The price usually includes breakfast or half board. Therapeutic procedures - baths, silt wraps, massages, etc. - for an additional fee.

A room in a 3* hotel a 5-minute walk from the lake will cost from 8,000 HUF per day. In hotels of a higher class you can stay for 14,000-20,000 HUF per day. For a holiday in a luxurious “five” you will need to pay from 35,000 HUF per night. An alternative to hotels is apartments in private houses and family hotels: prices here start from 7000-7500 HUF per day.

The voltage in the electrical network in Heviz, as throughout Hungary, is 230 V, the sockets are familiar European ones, type C and F, which do not require an adapter.

Shopping

In Heviz there are fashionable boutiques with designer products, and souvenir shops where you can choose pleasant little things as souvenirs. Both are concentrated on the pedestrian streets of the center. Small shops display clothing collections from Hungarian and international brands, as well as shoes, jewelry, and optics. Salons of luxury brands of the Escada level are open on the territory of the hotels. You should look for the best souvenir shops in the area of the bus station. Textiles embroidered with traditional patterns, hand-painted porcelain, wooden dolls, and carved figurines deserve special attention.

On the shelves in Heviz you can also find the most popular souvenir in Hungary - paprika in elegant packages. The most valued are Kalochay and Szeged.

Good edible gifts include marzipan sweets and, of course, alcohol: world-famous Tokaj wines, Unicum bitter balsam, Palinka fruit vodka, frech - a mixture of wine and fizzy soda in a painted siphon. And at the farmer's market, open three days a week, you can buy fresh baked goods, honey and jam, made by local craftsmen according to centuries-old recipes.

Cuisine and restaurants of Heviz

In Heviz the food is Hungarian-style: generous, tasty and satisfying. The city has many cafes, taverns and restaurants for guests with any budget. In the morning, it is best to stop by one of the coffee shops: drink a cup of aromatic drink, treat yourself to pastries or ice cream. Lunch is the time to get acquainted with traditional dishes: the obligatory goulash (it is prepared here in dozens of different ways from different types of meat, even venison), stew, baked pork in pots with a side dish of vegetables. Also good are chicken paprikash with peppers, langosh flatbreads, and vegetarian soup “fezelek” made from zucchini, cabbage, potatoes and lentils.

Heviz has casual taverns, sandwich cafes, ethnic-style restaurants, and live music venues. Some eateries offer a vegetarian menu and free Wi-Fi; there are discounts on certain days. The most pleasant thing is to dine on cozy verandas overlooking the lake: restaurants with this bonus are often open at hotels.

Lunch in a cafe will cost 1500-2000 HUF, dinner in a restaurant - from 3000-5000 HUF per person.

We recommend combining dinner in Heviz with a tasting of excellent Tokaj wine and other alcoholic drinks for which Hungary is famous. The city has several bars with interesting cocktail lists; private wine cellars are open on the Balaton coast, but a decent range of alcohol will be offered in almost any cafe or restaurant.

The best photos of Heviz

In the 17th century it served as a family estate for a count's family. Today, here you can get acquainted with an interactive exhibition, stroll through a magnificent park, and even spend the night in a mini-hotel.

There are other places worth visiting in Keszthely. The Balaton Museum tells the history of the lake; Georgikon houses agricultural tools from the Bronze Age. Guests of the Marzipan Museum will be offered to enjoy the famous sweets, and visitors to the Panopticon risk getting lost among very realistic wax figures.

On the street Kossuth, not far from the Doll Museum, boasts a unique art object - a model of the Budapest parliament, made of 5 million shells. Height - 2.5 m, length - 7.5 m, reproduction accuracy is amazing.

Several medieval fortresses have been preserved in the vicinity of Heviz. One of them, Sumegskaya, was built in the 11th century and is considered the oldest in Hungary. Tourists will find entertainment for every taste: excursions to the weapons museum with cannons, pistols and armor from different eras, horse riding lessons, and most importantly - knightly tournaments, held on a special scale and ending with meals according to ancient customs. The ruins of another famous fortress are located in Szigliget. It is a little younger (13th century), but keeps no less amazing secrets. However, what exactly is hidden in the secret passages and echoing wells remains to be found out only after the restoration currently underway.

The nature of this fertile region can also be considered an independent attraction. The Tapolca Caves, the Balaton Upland National Park and other picturesque places will certainly remain in the traveler’s memory for a long time.

5 things to do in Heviz

  1. Swim in the lake to your heart's content and say goodbye to poor health for a long time.
  2. From the entire list of health procedures, choose the most pleasant ones, be it a massage or drinking mineral water.
  3. Try all varieties of Balaton wine, combining tastings with hearty meals.
  4. Attend a knightly performance at the Sumeg Fortress.
  5. Go to Keszthely and compare the model of the parliament, created from millions of shells, with the original.

Heviz for children

Not far from Heviz there are several places where both young and adult travelers will enjoy. One of them is a buffalo reserve on the territory of the Balaton Upland National Park. About 100 animals living in their natural environment are kept here. Special walking trails with wooden decking have been laid out for visitors: the animals are absolutely not afraid of people and calmly approach the fences.

The largest Ethnic Style Doll Museum in Central Europe has been opened in Keszthely (office site). More than 700 exhibits in folk costumes, exactly copying the traditional outfits of the Hungarians, “live” on three floors. Formal, everyday, wedding, work - national clothing, even if made for dolls, is presented in all its colorful diversity.

And, of course, where would we be without water attractions in the lake district! If the kids get bored of swimming in Heviz or Lake Balaton, we recommend taking them to the Kehida entertainment complex in the nearby village of Kehidakushtan. While parents relax in the sulfur baths, Jacuzzis and saunas, the kids enjoy frolicking in the water park. By the way, the 100-meter slide built here with sound and light special effects has no analogues in all of Hungary.

Lake Heviz is a world-famous resort far beyond the country's borders. Also, the Heviz resort is the world's largest reservoir of thermal water, a biologically active reservoir. A huge flow of those who want to relax and also heal on this wonderful lake does not stop coming to the local baths of Heviz. The distance from Budapest to Heviz is about one hundred and ninety kilometers, so it is worth thinking in advance about how you will get to this resort.

One of the options is a transfer. If your trip is due to the need for serious treatment, or you simply do not want to waste your energy on the road, then this method is most suitable. From Budapest airport, for example, you can get to the resort of Heviz in two and a half hours. The average cost of a transfer from Budapest to Heviz is thirty-five to eighty euros per person. If you want to travel separately, without other passengers, that is, you want to hire a private transfer, you will have to pay from one hundred and thirty euros. Usually, the price already includes a meeting at the airport with a sign, and if you order a private transfer, porter services will also be included. If your flight is delayed, transport will be waiting for you for as long as necessary, without charging an additional fee.

The second option is to travel by train; such a trip is specifically designed for those who want to cover the distance on their own. Trains towards Heviz depart from Déli and Keleti railway stations. It would be best to go from Déli station, because there are more flights in this direction from there. Tickets can be purchased in advance; you can do this online at elvira.mav-start.hu. There is no direct flight from Budapest to Heviz. Therefore, first you will have to get to the town of Keszthely, it is located five kilometers from the resort. The cost of a train ticket is fifteen euros, the journey will take you from three to three and a half hours, it all depends on the train you choose. It is also worth taking into account the fact that some of the cars are usually uncoupled in the city of Balatonszentgyorgy. But don’t worry, no one will take you off the train, and no one will leave you on an empty platform. Conductors, as a rule, warn passengers in advance whether they need to move to another carriage. The last leg of the journey will be from Kesztehely to Lake Heviz; this distance can be covered by bus. The train station and bus station of Keszthely are located nearby, and on the same square. In order to find the right bus to Hévíz, you should look for a sign with the name Hévíz written on it. Buses travel frequently, departing every hour, and the ticket costs one to one and a half euros. You will spend about twenty minutes on the way.

The third option, and probably the most successful, is to get the fastest and easiest way from Budapest to Heviz by bus. All buses are comfortable and depart from the Népliget bus station. There are also several connecting flights. But it is worth considering that the ticket is not tied to any time. The bus arrives in the center of Heviz. The ticket price is twelve euros. Travel time is about two and a half hours.

Budapest - Heviz: how to get there - this is the question asked by most tourists who fly to the Hungarian capital in order to move to the unique thermal lake. In fact, there are not so many answer options, but I will talk about all of them in this article. I’ll also tell you how you can save money if you order a transfer from Budapest to Heviz. Let's talk about everything in order.

There are two main ways to get from Budapest to Heviz

  1. By bus.
  2. By car.

If everything is clear with the first method (buy a ticket, get on the bus and go in the right direction), then the second has a number of nuances. I will definitely dwell on each below.

From Budapest to Heviz by bus

Buses from Budapest to Heviz depart from Budapest Nepliget bus station and go straight to Heviz bus station, from where you can walk to almost any hotel and apartment in the resort. There are more than 10 flights per day from the Hungarian capital to the thermal lake (from early morning to late evening), the travel time is about 2.5 hours. See the schedule on the website menetrendek.hu, but it is only in English.

The cost of a bus ticket from Budapest to Heviz starts from 3,700 forints (about 12 euros). You can buy a ticket at the Nepliget bus station, and it is also sold online. The carrier’s website (I’ll give you the English version right away) is volanbusz.hu/en. Select the Domestic tickets tab.

If you don’t know how to buy a ticket online, write in the comments. If there are many requests, I will write an article or make a video instruction on buying bus tickets online.

The buses on Hungarian roads are excellent: large and comfortable, most have Wi-Fi.

Now about the discounts. Children under six years of age and pensioners over 65 years of age can ride the route Budapest - Heviz for free. However, in the latter case, free travel is only provided to older people who have Hungarian citizenship or citizenship of any other EU country. In general, share your experience, who traveled to Heviz by bus, and who managed to get what kind of discount.

Children aged 6 to 14 years and students can get a 50% discount on tickets. Again, it is not known for certain whether foreign students (for example, Russian) who hold an ISIC card can count on a discount. The carrier’s website does not mention them, but one of the readers said that he traveled on an intercity bus using ISIC at a discount.

The bus ticket price includes hand luggage and two pieces of luggage. There is a special compartment for suitcases.

From Budapest to Heviz: train + bus

Almost everywhere, the alternative to bus service is the train, but in the case of Heviz the option is not entirely convenient. Although I myself would choose it, since I love trains more than buses.

The main disadvantage of this method is that you cannot get directly to the resort town by train - there is no railway to Heviz. But you can buy a train ticket on the route Budapest - Keszthely, and from there take a bus to Heviz. Keszthely and Heviz are only six kilometers from each other. I personally rode a bicycle from one city to another several times.

Trains to Keszthely depart from Budapest South Railway Station (Déli pályaudvar). Travel time is 3 hours 20 minutes. At least five trains leave per day, usually more. You can buy a ticket at any train station in Budapest - at the ticket office or from the machine (). I recommend buying tickets on the Hungarian Railways website - how to do it (don't forget to like the video if it was useful). The ticket price is the same for all flights - 3,700 forints (II class carriage).

Upon arrival at Keszthely train station, you need to go to the bus station, which is 100 meters away. The bus takes 15 minutes to Heviz, the cost of a full ticket is 400 forints.

The bus station in Heviz is located on Deák tér square.

As I already wrote, from here to your hotel/apartment you'll have to go on your own, since there is no public transport in the town. True, you can take a taxi.

Budapest – Heviz: how to get there by car

If you want to get from Budapest to Heviz even faster, then a car will help you. The options are as follows:

  1. Come with your own car/rent one.
  2. Order a group/individual transfer.

If you drive your own car or rent one, then the issues of toll roads and parking in Budapest, Heviz and other Hungarian cities that you plan to visit will be relevant to you. Separate articles are devoted to them: about, about and other cities.

The distance from Budapest to Heviz is 190 kilometers. If you drive on the toll highway. For those who like to save money and do not want to buy an electronic vignette, the distance will increase to 200 kilometers. Is it true, the savings will be doubtful, because for the difference in kilometers you will have to pay with gasoline, which in Hungary costs euros and kopecks per liter. And don’t forget about time: the journey in the first case will take about two hours, in the second – a little more than three.

Autobahns in Hungary are just what you need: at least two lanes (there are sections with three and even four lanes) with perfect coverage. Turn on the cruise control at 130 km/h (the maximum speed limit on the autobahn) and go.
