The pentagonal tower was built in the 15th century in the Gothic style and has a relief of the Venetian lion on the façade. The tower is located at the entrance to the old town, right at the beginning of the main street Decumanus. Today it houses an expensive restaurant and if you want to visit the tower you will definitely feel obliged to stop by for a drink.

In a nutshell. For those traveling to Croatia by car, I recommend starting the journey from Umag. Then move to Porec, Rovinj, Pula. If you choose one for a week or two, it would be strategic to settle in Rovinj or Pula. From here it is easiest to get to the most interesting cities on your own and take. We did the opposite: we started the trip with a 3-day stop in, then stayed in, and Porec was compared to these towns. And in vain. It does not lose in color, atmosphere, or comfort. But still, after the larger Rovinj and Pula...

And, of course, Porec is Istria, and Istria in the summer is perhaps the most comfortable. In more interesting and larger cities in the south - Zadar, Split, Dubrovnik - the water and air are 5 degrees higher than in Istria. Therefore, it is better to open and close the season in the south, and at the height of summer it makes sense to go to the more northern Istrian cities of Croatia.

Beaches. Porec is one of the favorite tourist cities for sea holidays in Croatia. Why is it so popular, despite Pula, Rovinj, and Umag being located nearby? It's simple. According to various sources, in the vicinity of Porec. Let’s just list: the beaches of Valeta, Crnik, Lanterna, the beach of the car camping Galeb, Solaris, Ulika, the beach of the Laguna Materada hotel, Doni Spadici, Borik, Oliva (St. Nikola island), city beach, Brulo, Bellevue, Galiot beach, Parencium, Lotosi, Dolphin, Zelena Laguna, Bijela Uvala...

Although, where do they begin and where do they end? The entire coast is a continuous beach.

In Porec, perhaps, the most vibrant beach and hotel life is in full swing. It even seemed to us that this is the most equipped and crowded resort in the country, not counting Dubrovnik. For a lazy hotel holiday - definitely here. Although all-inclusive hotels are not easy to find here, as throughout Croatia.

The best excursions in Porec are independent, on foot, with a map of attractions in hand.

But excursions from Porec are very diverse. You will be offered a choice of a trip to the cities of Istria, Venice, Trieste, Brijuni Park, the Lima Canal, islands (Krk, Losinj, Cres, fish picnics, fishing). Where is the best place to go from Porec? I don’t dare dissuade those who haven’t been there from visiting Venice - after all, they say it will soon go under water, and it’s the closest way to get from Croatia to Venice if you’re staying in Istria... But ideally, pick up a map, Compass, circle an area with a radius of about 200 kilometers and try to travel the length and breadth of the peninsula: there is something to keep you busy for a month, if not the whole summer.

It’s the same with fish picnics: ideally, if you go, then choose a program in which, in addition to the picnic itself, there will be something else: the same Vrsar, the fjord, Rovinj.

Keen fishermen from Porec (and all other tourist towns in Croatia) can go on a sea fishing excursion. It is usually combined with a fish picnic, swimming in the sea - you will be taken either to secluded coves on the coast or to small idyllic islands.

Porec embankment at sunset.

Sunset, the sound of the waves, the aromas of seafood from nearby konob... Walking, having dinner, aimlessly visiting souvenir shops, we stayed in the center until dark.

The visiting card of Porec is the Euphrasian Basilica.

Where to live? For some color, head to the Old Town. Remember that there is nowhere to park your car in the center, and you will have to walk with your suitcases. If this doesn’t bother you, the center will be romantic and colorful.

At the entrance to one of the many konob in Porec.

For the sound of waves and the aroma of pine trees, head to one of the city’s beach areas. We especially note the beaches of Laguna Materada and Zelena Laguna.

There are no five-star hotels in Porec - there are very few of them in all of Croatia, when compared with Turkey and Greece. There are also only a few hotels operating on an all-inclusive basis in Croatia. But there are good network fours, for example, “Laguna” and “Valamar”.

The apartments are in no way inferior to them (just as well located, with fresh renovation, furniture, plumbing), but will cost much less: for a room in four you will pay from 200 to 300 euros per day, for apartments - from 50.

Bye, Porec! Perhaps we are subjective, but we categorically refuse to understand why Porec is one of the most popular among Russians, Ukrainians, and Belarusians. Despite the fact that there are not as many CIS citizens here as there once were in Turkey and Egypt, and in general in Croatia you rarely hear Russian speech, here we still met fellow citizens.

We frankly missed the city rhythm of life and with hope rushed to Opatija, and there...

Porec in Croatia is an ancient city and the largest tourist center of Istria, the largest peninsula of the country. Porec is located in the lagoon of the same name in the western part of Istria, famous for its mild pleasant climate, rich vegetation and clean beaches. The coastline that runs along the city is very winding and forms many secluded coves, making it an excellent place for a seaside holiday. Porec is one of the few Mediterranean cities where ancient Roman monuments, temples, and medieval fortresses are perfectly preserved. Most of its attractions are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Business card

In Croatia, Porec is rightfully considered one of the most important tourism centers. This is facilitated by favorable natural conditions, magnificent architecture, rich cultural life, developed infrastructure and good service.

What to see, where to visit

Porec has preserved many sights from different eras, which form the appearance of the historical part of the city. Its “calling card” is the Euphrasian Basilica, protected by UNESCO. It was erected in the 6th century under Bishop Euphrasia on the site of the older church of St. Moor (patron of the city). The bell tower of the basilica offers a picturesque panoramic view of the city and the sea.

Many of the local ancient buildings were built on the ruins of ancient buildings, and the main city streets - the Roman Decumanus and Cardo Maximus - lead to Marafor Square, where the remains of the ancient forum are located. Not far from the square you can see fragments of the Temple of Neptune and the ruins of the Great Temple of Mars, once the largest on the Adriatic coast. A large number of exhibits from the Roman Empire are available in the city's History Museum.

The former power of Porec's fortifications is evidenced by several towers of the 15th century - Round (or South), Semicircular, Pentagonal. An example of Venetian architecture is the villa of the Polesini family; the Baroque style is represented by the building of the Istrian municipality. In addition, the House of the Two Saints (XV century), the Romanesque House (XIII century), the Church of the Virgin Mary (XVIII century) and many medieval churches outside the historical center of Porec deserve attention.

Beaches

The city coast stretches for almost 65 km. There are many lagoons with emerald water and quiet bays. Those who like a secluded holiday can go by boat to the nearby islands to enjoy the beautiful sea and pristine nature without interference.

The beaches in Porec, as throughout Croatia, are predominantly concrete platforms with specially equipped descents into the water and rocky plateaus. There are also large pebble beaches, and you can also enter the sea from rocks. Many of Porec's beaches are marked with the UNESCO Blue Flag.

Entertainment and active recreation

Porec has a well-developed resort infrastructure and a variety of recreational opportunities. Tourists can enjoy numerous open-air cafes, restaurants, discos, parks, shops, tennis courts, gyms, cycling and walking routes, spa centers, sports equipment rentals, water sports, diving clubs, an extreme park, an autodrome and much more. other.

Cultural events contribute to the popularity of Porec. In the summer there are classical music concerts, jazz evenings, Street Art Festival, Zlatna sopela (folklore festival), the annual exhibition of contemporary art and the Adriaticum exhibition, and in September the medieval festival Giostra.

During the summer season, the Istralandia water park operates in Novigrad, neighboring Porec. The whole family can relax here. The journey will take approximately 20 minutes.

Porec is home to one of the most famous youth clubs in the country, Byblos. During the summer months, young people from Croatia, Italy, Austria and Slovenia come here.

Where to stay

In Croatia, Porec is considered perhaps the most visited resort. Therefore, it has the largest number and variety of hotels in the country. Tourists can choose to stay in hotels of different categories, apart-hotels, campsites, private villas and apartments, located both in quiet areas on the coast and in the city center, closer to entertainment.
