India e-Visa (on arrival)

An e-Visa, or Visa on Arrival, is the easiest way to get a visa to India. You just need to apply for it on the Tourist visa on arrival website - after sending the documents and paying the state duty, a document will be sent to your E-mail, which you need to print and present when passing through passport control. It is desirable to have it always with you when traveling in India. An innovation in migration legislation appeared at the end of 2014, so now it has become much easier for Russians to obtain visas to India - there is no need to go to the embassy and collect numerous documents.

Validity. Visa on arrival to India is single entry and is valid for 60 days from the date of arrival in the country. It can be done no more than three times a year, but it cannot be extended.

So, how to get an e-Visa to India:

  • fill out the application form on the official website in the Tourist visa on arrival application section. According to the ID of the questionnaire, you can monitor the status of the visa;
  • upload a photo in JPEG format (size - from 10 KB to 1MB) and a copy of the passport in PDF format (size - from 10 to 300 KB);
  • pay the state duty in the amount of $100 + $2 for payment by international bank card (the fee must be paid at least 4 days before the date of entry, otherwise the visa will be cancelled);
  • print out the visa that will come to the mailbox (it may take several days), and always have it with you.

It is important to remember that all this must be done at least 4 days before entering India, the date corridor for entry by e Indian visa- 120 days.

Attention! E-visa is valid only upon arrival at 26 airports : Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Calicut, Chennai, Chandigarh, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Gaya, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Tiruchirapalli, Trivandrum, Varanasi & Vishakhapatnam. You can also enter the country through 5 seaports (including Goa).

Requirements: you need to have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival in India. It must have at least two blank stamp pages. In addition, you need to have a return ticket and money (the amount is not specified).

The site does not always work correctly, there are often failures in payment. After three unsuccessful attempts to pay, the questionnaire is canceled, you will have to fill it out again. If the payment does not go through with one bank card try another one.

Indian Visa Abroad

It is impossible to officially extend a visa directly in India - it is better not to agree to a visa application from enterprising merchants and agencies. While traveling, Russians and citizens of other countries can apply for a visa to India in other Asian countries. Thailand (Bangkok) and Indonesia (Bali) are perfect for this, but in Sri Lanka (Colombo) and Nepal (Kathmandu), many travelers do not advise making visas: the process is long, complicated, expensive and unpredictable.

IN Thailand(Bangkok) visa application center is located at: Sukhumvit 25, Sukhumvit Road, 15th floor, office 1503. The package of documents and the process of registration is standard: you need to fill out an online form and print it out, provide a photo, a copy of your passport, hotel and ticket reservation, account statement, money and so on.

Indian Consulate Address Bali: Jalan Raya Puputan, 163, Renon, Denpasar. The package of documents is standard.

Attention! News from Asia. By latest reviews travelers (see comments below), Indian consulates in Thailand now only issue visas to residents of that country. In Nepal, a visa is given, but for a period of no more than 3 months, but six months can be obtained in Myanmar. In Sri Lanka, it is recommended to apply for a visa in the city of Kandy, and not in the capital.

Visa on arrival in Goa

In 2019, Russians can get an Indian visa by flying to the state of Goa, without having to do anything in advance. The simplified procedure is made specifically for those who arrive to rest in India on a package tour, so the rule works exclusively for Goa, because it is here that Russian tourists mainly fly.

Applying for a visa on arrival in Goa (Dabolim Airport) is not the best solution. It has two advantages: you do not need to apply for a visa and prepare documents in advance, and it also costs less - $ 40. However, there are a number of inconveniences: such a visa (more precisely, a residence permit) is issued only if you are traveling as part of a group of tourists consisting of 4 people or more. At the same time, you need to arrange a tour through an Indian tour operator. You must travel strictly as part of a group, not deviating from the specified route and not running out of time. At the same time, you are left without a passport, in return for which you are given a TLF / TLP form - that is, you will not be able to leave the state. When leaving the country, the passport is returned.

On a note

Indian legislation provides for several special rules regarding tourists arriving in the country on charter flights, which must be borne in mind in order to avoid problems and misunderstandings.

  • You can fly into and out of the country only on flights of the same airline, if these flights are charter flights.
  • Tourist visiting India charter flight, does not have the right to fly out of the country or move within it on scheduled flights.
  • A tourist can fly in and out only to and from airports where immigration services are available.
  • Only force majeure allows a tourist who arrived in India by charter to leave the country on a scheduled flight or another charter airline.

These requirements are not met to the fullest extent, often the violation of these rules is turned aside or the problem with the authorities is solved ransom. Keep in mind that not only government officials can find fault, but also the airlines themselves because of their unwillingness to break the law.

( If it is clear with the ticket, it may be required when passing through passport and visa control in India upon arrival, then it is more difficult with money. Most likely, it will be enough to show an international bank card, and just in case, take with you a printout of your account from the Internet bank, preferably not with zero indicators).
  • A visa applicant can apply online at least 4 days before the date of entry, with a window of 30 days. For example, if a candidate applies on December 1st, they can choose an arrival date between December 5th and January 4th of the following year.
  • When submitting an application, you need to upload to the site a fresh photograph of the applicant on a white background, a photograph (blueprint) of the passport with personal data: name, photograph, nationality, passport validity period. For a visa to India for a period of 1 month, you need to fill out 3 sheets of the questionnaire for each person, including children. From unaccustomed to filling out one questionnaire and downloading necessary documents takes at least 30 minutes of active work.

Fortunately, this electronic questionnaire is not checked as closely as the questionnaire for a long-term visa to India, you should try to answer as correctly as possible, but it is unlikely that the questionnaire will be wrapped due to errors. The main thing is to correctly indicate such important points as passport number, contact e-mail address, name and port of arrival.

After answering all the questions of the questionnaire, click "next" and upload a photo on a white background and a photo of a passport in PDF format, observing the technical requirements, otherwise, you simply will not be able to upload them.

The page shown above gives you your application identification number, which you must write down if you plan to pay the fee later. And then there are two options to pay the visa fee now by clicking “Pay now” or make this payment later, but no later than 4 days before arrival in India, by clicking “Pay later”.

Also, on this page it is reported that after three unsuccessful payment attempts, you will have to fill out the questionnaire again.

If you choose to pay later, you will need to go to the page https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/TVOAOOnlinePayment.jsp and enter your identification number of the questionnaire, indicated in the picture above Application Id: - I004V0492914, as well as the date of birth of the person for whom the questionnaire is filled out.

After successful payment, you just have to wait a few days. A letter confirming the receipt of an electronic visa to India will be sent to the mailbox you specified, with the following content:

That's it, this letter is an electronic visa to India! It remains only to print this letter, and as you remember from the rules - do not part with it throughout your trip to India ( apparently they can check).

What to do if the payment for the e-Visa to India fails?

The main thing is not to panic and be patient. Before the cancellation of the questionnaire, which you painstakingly filled out, 3 attempts of unsuccessful payment must pass. Use them wisely. If you have another international bank card with a balance of at least $62, use it. Check if there is enough money on your card to pay the $60 visa fee + approximately $2 fee.

If after 3 attempts you failed to pay, be patient and fill out the form again, try choosing the second payment method, not immediately, but through the link. The Indian visa site has never worked flawlessly, sometimes it is frankly “buggy”. Try another browser.

And upon arrival in India, you will receive a stamp in your passport in addition to your paper visa, indicating that you have an active electronic visa to India.

Information on applying for an electronic visa to India is taken from the site -

An electronic visa to India can be issued without leaving home: for a long time we cannot imagine life without the provision of services via the Internet. India is a country where entry can be obtained through the internet.

For those who decide to apply for a visa without refusals, quickly and inexpensively, we recommend the Online Visa Application Center.

Indian visa process online

An online visa is a visa stamp obtained in absentia in the passport, approved by the consulate. The border guard will put it in the passport after being presented with a printout with permission.

Internet access is not limited to certain opening hours, i.e. You can fill out an online application 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The steps to apply for an e-Visa to India are as follows:

  1. Go to the Indian Consulate website https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/tvoa.html;
    In your browser settings, set the automatic site translator and you will see the questionnaire in your native language.
  2. Carefully fill out the Indian visa application form online according to the principle: check seven times - send once;
    Particular attention should be paid to the passport number and ID.
  3. Prepare for sending color copies of: Russian passport (first page and registration), last visa to India (if any), photos and air tickets (optional);
  4. Scanned (photographed) documents can be attached to the application form. Your photos must be exclusively on a white background, and sent scans (or photos) with a clear, readable image. Otherwise, the application will be rejected: documents are processed by an automatic system;
    Scanned documents must be attached in PDF format, weight up to 300 kb; photo in JPG format, weight up to 1 Mb, square, with a minimum resolution of 350x350 pixels.
  5. In a convenient way for you: through a bank (then by scanning a payment receipt) or with a payment card, pay a visa fee of $62;
    Without payment, the application is not considered, the paid fee is not refundable, payment is made in any currency.
  6. Please enter a valid email address to which the response should be sent.

If you make 3 unsuccessful attempts to fill out the application, it will be blocked and you will have to repeat everything from the beginning. The status of your application can be viewed on the submission site or wait for an email.

Having received a confirmation with a QR code and an invitation to enter (ETA) by e-mail, don't forget to print them before departure(you do not need to print the questionnaire): providing border guards with an invitation on any electronic medium does not work.

After receiving your application, no later than 96 hours before the date of arrival, you are given a window for entry - 30 days. For example, if the expected date of arrival in the country is May 1, then the application must be submitted on April 27-28. Arriving on May 1, you will receive a visa valid until May 30.

If you are denied a visa to India online, you can contact the embassy for in-person submission of documents. Before submitting to the embassy, it would be good to figure out why the refusal followed.

Moscow, as the capital of the state, has consulates of many countries, including the Indian one. His website: http://www.indianembassy.ru/.

India visa on arrival

Obtaining a visa to India on arrival usually does not cause problems: with proper filling and reliable information, refusals for Russian citizens do not happen often.

Features of the electronic visa (ETA):

  • You can stay in the territory of the state for a limited period - up to 30 days;
  • The registration process takes place at least 72 hours before the date of entry, a maximum of 30 days (you should not fill out documents earlier);
  • Basically, a visa to India online is issued to persons for a short-term tourist, guest, health visit. For a working, student visit with a long stay, an e-visa to India is not issued;
  • To obtain any visa, a passport is required, which valid for another six months from the date of submission of documents and it has 2 free pages for stamps. The passport must not be damaged;
  • A foreign passport is required for children, it will not work to enter the country with a pasted photograph in the parents' document;
  • The Indian side does not require permission to leave the child if one of the parents is accompanying;
  • The procedure for filling out the application form can be carried out before booking a hotel and buying tickets. If you buy a last-minute ticket, then upon arrival in India, tickets for a return flight or departure outside the country must be mandatory, documentary hotel reservations are not required;
  • Visa to India on arrival can be obtained, only if you travel by plane and only to certain airports, therefore, to arrive in the state by other means of transport, you need to use its registration with a personal presence at the consulate;
  • The issue of extending the period of the permit cannot be resolved in India (offers to extend the period of stay - fraud);
  • India Visa Online is used for one trip;
  • It is possible to use this service no more than 2 times a year;
  • The visa should always be with you, during the tour it will confirm the legality of your arrival.

International airports in India accepting tourists with ETA:

Airport name State in India In which city is the airport located
Ahmedabad Gujarat Ahmedabad
Amritsar Punjab Raja Sancy
Bangalore Karnataka Devanahali
Varanasi Uttar Pradesh Varanasi
Delhi Delhi Delhi
Jaipur Rajasthan Sanganer
Goa Goa Dabolim
Guy Bihar Guy
Calcutta West Bengal dum dum
Cochin Kerala Nedumbussery
Lucknow Uttar Pradesh Lucknow
Mumbai Maharashtra Mumbai (Bombay)
Tiruchirappalli taminlad Tiruchirappalli
Trivandrum Kerala Trivandrum
Hyderabad Telangan Shamshabad
chennai taminlad meenambakkam

Having received an electronic permit, you can visit all states, except for Sikkim (the state bordering Nepal and China), which is a restricted area, you must obtain a permit for 15 days at the airport, tourist office or at the state border.

To visit the Andaman and Laccadive Islands, the traveler must obtain a special permit from the Immigration Service of India.

Strictly observe the visa regime, because. an extended stay in India even for 1 day can create problems.

Don't fall for provocative offers of illegal visa extensions, this type of permit is valid strictly for 30 days. It is better to draw conclusions on the experience of a would-be traveler who decided to act outside the law. Staying in India illegally is fraught with a ban on entry.

Border control procedure upon arrival in India

Upon arrival in India, you will need to go through passport control. From the invitation printed by you, the visa number will be entered in the passport and stamped. This procedure is carried out by border guards: after arrival, you must go to the e-visa counter. Such services are provided only at the international airports already mentioned above.

Border control from tourists with a visa issued online takes biometrics.

If you are too worried that you will be deported to Russia at the airport for some reason, apply for a regular visa and calmly board the plane, already having a visa stamp in your passport. Travel is a time of pleasure, not of experience.

Rostourism warning about fraudulent sites

In terms of the flow of tourists to India, Russia ranks third. Demand creates supply, and websites masquerading as official ones have appeared on the network, on which fake entry permits are issued. Fraudsters work professionally, it is difficult to distinguish a fake from the original. Therefore, Rostourism recommends that Russian citizens who independently submit documents and travel companies check the validity of entry permits in advance. This can be done on the official website of the Indian Consulate.

Simplification of the system for issuing electronic visas to India from April 1, 2017

From April 1, 2017, the Indian government plans innovations in the issuance of electronic visas.

List of innovations:

  • The validity period of the online visa is doubled, i.е. up to 60 days;
  • The application deadline is increased from 3 days to 124;
  • The category "electronic visa" will be of three types: business visa, tourist, medical.

Also in February 2017, all foreign citizens arriving in India on e-Visas are provided with a sim card after stamping to communicate with the place of arrival in the country. A SIM card is issued free of charge: 50 megabytes for Internet access and 50 rupees for communication - a gift from hospitable India.

Do not be afraid to apply for a visa online. On the day and hour you need, you will certainly receive it if you act strictly according to the instructions. By following a simple procedure, you can enjoy the sights of mysterious India for a whole month.

  • target– tourism, meeting with friends, relatives, treatment, business;
  • airport of entry: Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi, Gaya, Goa, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Tiruchirapalli, Trivandrum & Varanasi;
  • visiting India with an e-visa is possible no more than 2 times per calendar year(January December);
  • number of entries - TWO, a visa is issued for a double visit to the country;
  • must be on hand when entering the country return ticket or a ticket to another country;
  • at the airport of arrival will be charged to the tourist biometric data(photo, fingerprints);
  • move around the country only with an e-visa form;
  • the presence of two blank pages in the passport.

Documents for registration.

A photo of the face in front with open eyes, on a white or light background, without shadows on the face and background, the head and shoulders should be fully included in the frame, there should be no foreign objects in the frame. The minimum resolution is 350*350 dots. Any size, square. JPEG format. The photo can be taken independently on the phone against a white wall without a flash, in good direct light. File size 10KB - 1MB;
  • Scanned passport page, where the photo and data of the tourist are located. If there is no scanner, you can take a picture on your phone without a flash, while the sides of the passport should be parallel to the sides of the frame. The minimum resolution is 1000 points on the short side. Convert to PDF format. File size 10KB - 300KB.
