Getting ready in the parking lot delicious dinner- oh, that signature smell of food from the fire! Nearby, in skillful hands, a woodpile is growing, which means that there will be enough firewood until the morning and there will be enough heat from the fire for everyone! A handsome musician is already tuning the guitar, and you can brew fragrant tea endlessly - the river is rustling nearby. At such moments, you understand what inspired the author of the lines “How great that we are all gathered here today!”

The raft is designed for rafting on turbulent rivers. Differences from: the oars here are with one blade, the boat is inflatable and, most importantly, no special physical training is needed to participate in rafting on the rivers, because you will do this with instructors.

Catamarans, in turn, differ from rafts in that it is not a fully inflatable boat - the side inflatable parts where people sit are connected by rafters. Therefore, a catamaran is more mobile on rough water than a raft, and riding it is a little more difficult and dangerous. However, companies organizing active rest for beginners, they often combine rafting and catamaran rafting.

As a rule, instructors who organize rafting tours provide for all the features so that people who board the boats for the first time do not get injured. But in any case, helmets and a life jacket will be required. Check if the clubs you apply for provide these important things.

There are very few fast and turbulent rivers on the territory of the former CIS, but still, there are places where rafting can be organized. In Russia, the Altai and Karelian rivers are ideal for such water tourism. The water arteries of the Caucasus may also be of interest. Only lovers of thrills and overcoming obstacles can choose rafting for tourism. This type of water tourism has become so attractive that there are many who want to experience the thrill of extreme sports without special training. According to the complexity of the alloy, rafting is divided into several categories - sports, tourist and hiking:

Sports rafting is a whole system of training, consisting of special requirements for competitions. The competitive process includes certain standards and the level of complexity of the alloy. For travel companies this type of rafting is not of particular interest. They offer their clients such types of rafting as hiking and tourist.

Hiking rafting includes elements of sports and tourist holiday. Depending on the preparation of tourists, routes of varying degrees of difficulty can be used. Hiking rafting can last several days, so here Special attention is given to equipment and the availability of necessary things, products, as well as security in the arrangement of holiday camps.

Compliance with safety rules on rafting

The main task for the organizers of rafting is the safety of all its participants. To do this, a mandatory introductory briefing is carried out, one of the tasks of which is to create a positive psychological attitude in the group, as well as familiarize with personal and group safety equipment. The group must be accompanied by a professional who knows the route perfectly and has the appropriate experience in making decisions in extreme conditions. The only drawback of water alloys is the frequent loss of "equipment" and equipment. In emergencies that occur as a result of the capsizing of the vessel, all members of the group must work together to deliver all the equipment and the raft to the shore. In the presence of victims, it is necessary to provide first aid in a timely manner. To prevent stressful situations, all participants before the start of the descent should be informed about a possible coup and how to deliver the craft to the shore or return it to working condition. The briefing also includes the ability to independently get to the shore without panic and outside help, and provide the necessary assistance to other team members. Each participant in the descent down the river must master the skills to overcome the consequences emergency. The most difficult rapids are overcome on unloaded ships with well-prepared insurance.

Looking for thrills and love being active? Then this relatively new type of tourism is what you need. If you're not afraid to get wet, welcome aboard.

Today it is one of the most interesting and quite popular ways of outdoor activities. It's trendy water sports, which is interesting for its exciting flow and transferred emotions.

So, rafting is an extreme rafting on mountain rivers or artificially created rowing channels with rough waters. Where did this tourism get its name from? As often happens, a foreign word is to blame. An inflatable raft for rafting is called a raft(from English raft), and, accordingly, the ending “ ing» gives the name the meaning of action.

A modern boat for rafting on mountain rivers has little in common with an ordinary raft. However, this is due to sufficient danger, because of which the vehicle must be more reliable.

What is a raft

Of course, the reliability and safety of the raft is what was taken into account in this sport in the first place. That is why today the “raft” itself has the following characteristics:

  • inflatable boat made of modern materials;
  • special design and shape;
  • high stability on water;
  • capacity 4-20 people.

Thanks to these properties, an inflatable raft for rafting can be called a "water all-terrain vehicle". But in order to easily overcome the route, you still need to familiarize yourself with all the rules and study some of the features.

  • This is interesting:

What are the types of rafting

It cannot be said that several varieties of this active recreation are very clearly distinguished. However, the purpose of the alloys themselves is distinguished. There is the following classification:

  • Expedition rafting. Travel for scientific purposes by a specially trained group of people.
  • Hiking rafting. Tourist river rafting, which may even include a walk on still water. For fans of extreme sports, “white waters” are often deliberately laid - routes with obstacles and rapids.
  • Sports rafting. A pure sport in which teams compete and score points for their results.

It must be understood that if you decide to ride an inflatable raft along a mountain river, the safety of your life depends on the whole team. After all, each person in the "raft" has his own duties, which are distributed by the instructor. If you become a member of the team, be prepared to perform one of three types of rowing:

  • Swinging oars.
  • Canoe way.
  • Combined way.

The second method is most often used in sports rafting. Members of the group sit along the sides, and behind them is one or two helmsmen. When hiking - swing oars are more popular. The main thing is to listen carefully to the instructor.

This extreme activity can be considered harmless if all safety standards are observed, the guide-escort has extensive experience, and the complexity of the river section corresponds to the group's level of training. In this situation, the stable position of the inflatable boat is easily maintained and the rafting is completed successfully.

Rafting equipment

Surely, you have already guessed that the participants have special protective equipment. What is included in the equipment? Participants must be equipped with safety helmets, life jackets, thermal insulating clothing and special footwear for descending through fast and turbulent streams.

Mountain streams are potentially dangerous, and besides, they can carry quite cold water. Before you start your journey, be sure to check that you have all the necessary equipment.
