Where you can not pitch a tent. Outdoors with tents

At first glance, it seems that there is nothing complicated in setting up a tent. Stretch the rope twine, set the pegs - and you're done. In fact, there are many tricks to make an overnight stay as comfortable as possible. And the most important thing in the correct installation of a tent is the choice of a place.

An ideal place for setting up a tent is a dry hillock. The higher it is, the better. This provides several benefits. First, if it rains, all the water will drain down and not flood the tent. Secondly, a light breeze often blows on the hillock, which carries away mosquitoes and other insects. Thirdly, and most pleasantly, from a hill, it usually opens up very beautiful view.

It is worth paying attention to whether there are rotten trees near the tent - they can fall with a gust of wind. Check the soil - step harder. If moisture appears - choose more dry place. See if there are anthills, animal trails nearby.

Having found a suitable place, you will have to deal with its arrangement - to clear the ground from stones and debris. If it's cool outside, you can insulate the bottom of the tent with spruce branches. To do this, you need to cut several large branches with fluffy needles and put them where the tent will be set up. The needles will create an additional layer between the bottom and the ground; with such a feather bed, tourists will not freeze even in winter.

How to set up a tent

The tent must be taken out of the bag and laid out on the ground or spruce branches with a dark dense bottom down. Collect the arcs by inserting the tubes one into the other. Next, proceed depending on the design of the tent. If this is a modern tent with an awning, then the arcs are superimposed on each other crosswise, the lower ones are inserted into special holes at the bottom of the tent. And then a layer of tent is attached to the arcs with the help of plastic hooks. An awning is thrown from above, into the pockets of which arcs are threaded. The awning is attached to the arcs from the inside with plastic holders. Then the arcs are firmly inserted into the ground. After that, the twine is stretched in the corners, and the tent is fixed with pegs. The pegs must be driven into the ground as firmly as possible so that a gust of wind does not knock down the tent.

Triangular tents of old designs are rarely equipped with awnings. In addition, they do not have special arcs, the racks have to be made from improvised materials - thick knots. You need to select two dry branches and install them inside the tent, resting on the canopy. After that, stretch the twines and secure them with pegs. It is better to cover such a tent with polyethylene on top, as the tarpaulin allows moisture to pass through, and you can get wet during rain. Polyethylene is attached to the tent with ordinary clothespins. And so that it is as stretched as possible and wrinkles are not created, you can tie ropes around the edges and fix the polyethylene with tent pegs.

If you have ever traveled with an overnight stay, you have come across the choice of a place to set up a tent. Unfortunately, not everyone who seeks to merge with nature knows how to set up a tent correctly. The tent is one of the main attributes and symbols of the campaign. In addition, a properly set up tent is the key to a comfortable stay on a hike. With a properly set up tent, you can forget about bad weather, dampness, cold and condensation on the walls of the tent.

To make the rest of the savage on Seliger as much as possible comfortable you need to take with you:
a tent, preferably windproof;
an air mattress, which is much more comfortable to sleep on than in sleeping bags;
rugs and blankets;
folding chairs and table;
a tripod for a fire;
kerosene burner;
aluminum pans;
kettle;
axes, saws, knives;
coal, since finding firewood on Seliger is a big problem;
garden rakes to clear the parking lot of needles and cones;
table knives and forks, a cutting board and a set of disposable plastic utensils.
. It is better to worry about the upcoming overnight stay in advance, before sunset.

Choosing a place for a campground

When choosing a place to camp, give preference to clearings protected from the wind and far from the reservoir. So you will be warmer and annoying mosquitoes will not bring you to white heat.
The next requirement for the camp site is the availability of water and firewood. It is difficult to say which of these requirements is more important. It all depends on the specific conditions of the trip. Usually hot summer time it is more important to find water. It is easier with firewood, but in early spring, when the melt water has not yet come down, this problem comes to the fore.

So, security, provision of water and firewood - these are the main requirements for the camp site. All of them are taken into account first of all when the bivouac site is marked on the map, and then when it is chosen on the ground.

Choosing a place to set up a tent

1. The place for setting up the tent should be flat. Not in terms of slope, but in terms of relief: no ledges, mounds, holes, branches. Practice shows that for some reason people sleep worse on roots, mounds and bumps than on level ground.

That's why:
1 If there are stones on the site that you have chosen to set up the tent, it is better to remove them.

Sharp knots are lying around - it’s better to remove them: not only will they not let you sleep, but also the bottom of the tent (waterproof by default) will be scratched and pierced.

If roots protrude from the ground, and there is nowhere else to become a tent, you can put some soft things in this place. Or just throw branches with leaves on the ground, it will definitely be more comfortable to sleep.

Yes, and pay attention that there are no anthills under the tent. Vengeful insects practically do not show up in the evening, but in the morning they will happily gnaw through the bottom of the tent and wake you up with "friendly" bites even before the official rise.

2. In the mountains, and in general, in any even slightly hilly area, where you are going to sleep, there will be a slight slope. It is important to go to bed with your feet down and your head up the slope (head above legs). Even if the slope is tiny, and lying down is not felt, at best you will wake up with a swollen face, and not at the best - also with a sore (from blood flow) head.

3. A sudden rain can derail all your plans. Therefore, when choosing a place for a tent, try, looking for salvation from the wind, not to stand inside any funnel or pit: everything will drain into it.

If there is a rather steep slope near the parking lot, water will flow from it in case of bad weather, and it is to your tent. Therefore, it is worth digging an already set tent with grooves. Once there, the water will smoothly bypass the tent and leave its inhabitants dry.

4. Pay attention to how far the tent is from the fire. According to popular wisdom, "a tent burns at a rate of $100 per second." Therefore, the distance between the fire and the tent should be at least three meters. In addition, try not to get smoke inside, otherwise a headache is guaranteed in the morning.

5. It is better to set up a tent away from the water (near which it is very cool and damp in the evenings), and also not on the trail. Otherwise, in the dark, the participants of your camp or some late tourists will stumble on the tent a couple of times, which could damage the tent or loosen the tension of the awning. As a result, you will have to get up from a warm sleeping bag and, cursing, hammer the pegs again.

6. Practice shows that it is more convenient to put up a tent with an exit to your feet. More precisely, it should fit in it with your feet towards the exit. Otherwise, if at night someone goes “to the wind”, and then comes back, he will definitely step on other people's heads, and a general upsurge for a stupid reason cannot be avoided. The legs, on the other hand, take up much less space, and it will be much easier for the unfortunate night to enter.

The rest of the requirements for the camp site should be considered as desirable, but not mandatory. Among these requirements is the convenience of a place for deploying bivouac work.

It is desirable that you don’t have to climb into a deep ravine for water or sip in a mug from a barely noticeable spring, so that you don’t have to go far for firewood, so that the camp site is protected from the wind, and if there are a lot of mosquitoes in the forest, then, on the contrary, so that the place it was windy so that the tents could be pulled up on trees, and not on special stakes, etc.

If the camp does not meet such requirements, it will drag out the camping time and require more effort from tourists, but, ultimately, even in such conditions one can secure a good rest.

Aesthetic requirements for the camp site and appearance are also among the additional requirements. Of course, ceteris paribus, it is better to camp in some beautiful, eye-pleasing place. not without reason experienced tourists who have traveled extensively native land, try to remember such places and, if necessary, bring newcomers there. But, of course, aesthetic requirements for a camp site should not be given preference over basic ones.

.

The same can be said about the appearance of the camp. Of course, it is beautiful if the tents are set up at the same distance from the fire or if the dining “table” is decorated with a bouquet of wildflowers. But in no case should it become an end in itself. Meanwhile, an inexperienced leader often forgets about this. And so, in order to put the tents in one line, the camp is not set up in the forest, where it is protected from the wind and partly from the rain, where the firewood is literally at hand, but somewhere on the edge of the field, near the road, open to everyone rains and winds, from where you need to walk three hundred meters for firewood. And for the sake of a bouquet of flowers decorating the "table", lunch is delayed for half an hour, and everyone eats cold food. In a word, when choosing a place for a camp, one should not forget about what is the main and what is secondary.

Setting up a tent in the forest

Find in the forest a good place for an overnight stay is the easiest. The main thing is that there are no old, rotten trees nearby that can fall on your head.
It is also important to make sure that there are no anthills nearby, otherwise the orderlies of the forest will come to visit you with an “inspection”.
You should also not put up a tent on the paths of forest animals - why disturb their peace? Yes, and you will not be greeted if a seasoned bear or a wild boar does not want to bypass an obstacle that suddenly appeared on its legal path.

A carpet of small shrubs - lingonberries, blueberries, cloudberries - an excellent spring mattress for a tired traveler. Even on a grassy lawn, sleeping is harder. White moss lichen covers dry places. True, in rainy weather it becomes limp, but it is still dry under it.
But on green mosses, so soft, tempting to look at, it is usually damp.
In general, before setting up a tent in a chosen place, pass the interlacing of stems through your fingers, feel the soil. If moisture appears after pressing, look for a drier place.

Lie down on the chosen place (it is possible on the spread rug), roll from side to side. So you better determine how to position the tent, where is the top, where is the bottom. And in advance, remove the stone or bough found at your side, cut off the bump from the turf of grass or ferns.

Shelter from the rain can be found in the old mixed spruce forest. As a rule, there are always powerful sprawling spruces here, under which nothing grows, they shade the ground so much. A large amount of old dry needles accumulate here under the trunks. Under such trees, wild boars, deer, and elks often lay down. If the tent fits in between the gnarled tree-like roots that often come to the surface, why not use this forest hotel for a person? This perfect place for an overnight stay. Warm, soft and dry!

Where is it better to set up a tent in a forest or in a clearing?

It is always warmer to sleep under a canopy of trees than in an open meadow. This is especially felt on spring and autumn nights, when in the morning the blades of grass on open space covered with frost, and there is no frost under the trees.
In the summer the dew falls heavily on the meadow and the tent gets wet. Nylon ropes stretch, weaken from moisture, the awning sags, begins to touch the fabric of the tent, and if the impregnation of the tent is old, moisture will penetrate into the tent.

In the forest you can always find shelter from the wind. Only in hurricane winds is there a danger that trees will begin to fall. In such a strong wind you should not camp in a mature tall forest, especially among thick aspens - they are the most fragile and break first, easily, like matches. In such weather it is better to stop among young trees.

Setting up a tent in a swamp

It happens that the night of the traveler catches in the swamp and there is no time left to choose a place. It's OK. You should chop small pine trees, make flooring out of them, and put up a tent on top.

Setting up a tent on a hillside

If you find yourself on the slope of a mountain or a river valley and do not have time to find a flat area before dark, it does not matter. The slope can also be used. Set up your tent so that you can sleep with your feet down the slope. Place a log or large stones at the exit of the tent so that your feet rest against them and prevent you from sliding down.

Or, another option is to roll a roller out of clothes and put it under your “fifth point” - this also prevents rolling. Inside the tent, under the rug in places of dips, put shoes, a backpack, and food.
The next option is to collect grass, rotten, easily breaking wood, moss, lichen in a sleeping bag cover. And use all this for "profiling". The main thing is fantasy! Then you will sleep softly and evenly ...

Setting up a tent in winter

Before setting up a tent in the snow, the area should be compacted. The easiest way to do this is with skis or a wide board. Break fir branches as a mattress. It is better not to throw the spruce branches in disorder, but to stick them into the compacted snow at a slight angle to create a springy “mattress”. It turns out a wonderful spring bedding.

Climbing into the tent should be done carefully so that once again you do not push through the snow with your hands and do not create holes at your side.

What Not to Do

The most common mistake of novice tourists is putting polyethylene under the tent, supposedly in order not to get dirty, not to wet the bottom. What you fear will happen even faster. If the edge of the polyethylene even slightly protrudes from under the tent, water from the awning will inevitably flow onto it during oblique rain. The only time this is justified is when the corners are bent and attached, for example, with a clothespin to the walls of the tent.
Don't be afraid to pitch your tent on wet grass. Let the bottom get wet, but the mat will still remain dry. If you're really afraid of wet grass, lay some polyethylene inside the tent. The main thing is not to put up a tent in the depression of the relief!

You should not set up camp on low pebble beaches of mountain rivers. Although it is tempting: in the ventilated space, mosquitoes and midges do not annoy. However, the rain that has passed in the mountains and has not even touched you can dramatically increase the water level in the river, and the tent will simply be flooded.

In the mountains in winter it is life-threatening to put up a tent in avalanche-prone places - on slopes covered with a thick layer of snow, in narrow valleys, couloirs, gutters. Do not stand on peaks, snow ledges hanging over cliffs. They can just break off under your weight. It is dangerous to stand under steep slopes from which stones can crumble.

Tips for novice tourists - little tricks.

In the spring, when the snow has already melted, but the ground has not yet completely thawed, you can first make a fire in the place of the tent. In an hour the earth will warm up, the fire can be extinguished, trampled and covered with fresh spruce paws. And set up a tent on top. Sleep will be much warmer at night. The main thing is not to leave large coals so as not to burn the bottom of the tent!

If you're camping for a few days and the weather is rainy, it's a good idea to dig a shallow trench into your tent. So you will avoid possible flooding of the tent.
If you have a choice, try not to put up a tent on the sand - it will inevitably get inside your house.
Try to set up your tent away from dense bushes or tall grass, a haven for mosquitoes and small midges.

How to set up a tent correctly

Newbie tourists mistakenly believe that there is nothing difficult in setting up a tent. Indeed, modern models have a simplified design that allows you to equip a place to sleep in just a few minutes.

But in order for the rest to be truly comfortable, you need to know how to properly set up a tent. Today's article is devoted to this very issue. By following the tips and tricks below, you will be able to furnish more comfortable place for a halt.

Step by step instructions on how to set up a tent

If you have purchased a modern tourist tent, there should not be any difficulties with its assembly. Most manufacturers put installation instructions inside so that even a novice tourist does not encounter difficulties when arranging a place to sleep (Figure 1).

In fact, the erected tent does not require any special skills, and the assembly scheme is practically independent of the model:

  1. First you need to remove the awning from the cover and spread it on the selected area with the dark dense side down.
  2. Next, you need to assemble the frame arcs. To do this, the tubes are simply inserted one into the other, and the elastic band inside will firmly hold them together.
  3. Further actions depend on the model of the tent. In modern products from awnings, arcs are superimposed on each other crosswise, and the lower edges of the frame are inserted into special holes in the bottom. Then the lower layer of the tent is attached to the arcs, and an awning is thrown on top, which is attached to the arcs with special plastic holders. To firmly fix the structure, it remains only to pull the ropes and secure their edges with pegs.
Figure 1. Setting up a shelter can sometimes require the help of friends.

In general, it is worth getting acquainted with the device of the tent and the technology of its installation even before the start of the campaign. Then you will be ready for any surprises and you will not have any difficulties in arranging a place to sleep.

There are several types of tents that are most often used during hiking and outdoor recreation (Figure 2).

The following tents are usually set up in the forest:

  1. Gable: usually shaped like a house. This species is already a bit outdated and is rarely sold in tourist shops. However, army tents, which are also house-shaped, are best suited for winter camping. They protect well from the weather, although they take a little longer to install than modern models.
  2. Hemispherical frame: the most popular type. Such tents are made of lightweight and durable materials, so they do not let moisture through, are resistant to gusts of wind, but at the same time they are easy to set up and disassemble.
  3. Half ribs: more capacious than hemispherical tents. Usually they are equipped with a vestibule in which you can store personal items or hide from the weather. The only drawback of such structures is that they require a lot of space to install. This is due to the fact that the pegs need to be strongly spread out so that the structure can withstand even strong gusts of wind.

Figure 2. Tourists most often use semi-barrel, hemispherical and gable models

If you are going to hiking, it is better to give the advantage to frame hemispherical models. They are very light, require a minimum of effort to install, but at the same time they are able to protect against wind and precipitation.

If you have an old-style tent-house at your disposal, it is perfect for outdoor recreation with your family. There is a lot of space inside it for placing personal belongings and for sleeping. However, you should be prepared for the fact that such a design weighs a lot, and its installation will take more time.

How to set up a tent: rules

Modern models of tents are so well thought out that their installation in a campaign takes a minimum of time and does not require much effort. But in order to make the rest truly comfortable, you need to observe certain rules shelter arrangement (Figure 3).

When setting up a tent, consider the following nuances:

  1. Try to equip a place to sleep at the edge of the forest, and not in its depths, since there are usually much fewer mosquitoes on the edge of the plantations. For the same reasons, you should not pitch a tent next to a pond.
  2. If you are afraid of rain, dig around the perimeter of the tent with shallow holes that will act as drainage holes.
  3. Since people sleep in the tent with their feet towards the exit, the inlet should be located directly opposite the halt. So you can easily find the entrance to your shelter at night.
  4. Before installation, be sure to clear the area of cones, branches and other plant debris. It will be felt through the bottom of the tent and interfere with a quality night's sleep.
  5. The pegs with which the tent is attached must be stuck into the ground at an angle of 45 degrees. It does not make sense to completely bury them in the ground, because due to strong tension, the peg can pop out and the structure will be broken.

Some other material must be laid out at the bottom of the tent: mats, air mattresses or a simple layer of dense fabric. So you protect yourself from the cold emanating from the earth. In addition, if you were unable to properly clean the area under the tent from debris, such an additional layer will provide a comfortable stay.

Figure 3. Installation step by step

But the most important thing in arranging a vacation spot is to choose the right place to place a tent. Since this plays a key role in a comfortable stay, we will dwell on this point in more detail.

Site Selection Criteria

Even if you go on vacation to places where tourists often stop, this does not mean at all that you can put up a tent anywhere. As in the case of the assembly of the structure, the choice of a place to sleep plays a decisive role in comfortable sleep and rest (Figure 4).

The site selection procedure is as follows:

  1. In no case do not put the awning in the valley. If it rains, your shelter will flood with water. It is better to choose flat areas or places on a small hill.
  2. If it is possible to put up a tent in the shade, choose this place. This will protect the interior from overheating during the daytime. This condition is especially important to observe if you are setting up a tent near the beach on the sand.
  3. Pay attention to the paths laid on the ground. Don't set up a tent where the ants' routes are. These insects do not change the trajectory of their movement, and will quickly fill the interior of your temporary home.

Figure 4. The right choice of a place to sleep is the key to a comfortable stay

Also, try not to pitch your tent near a fire, as flying sparks can set the tarp on fire. Also, pay attention to the paths people use. You should not equip your housing right in the center or in close proximity to the trail. So you risk damaging your tent if someone gets caught on a peg or rope at night.

How to set up a tent in winter

Winter hikes are considered the most difficult, if only because of the fact that negative temperatures interfere with a comfortable overnight stay. But, if you follow the tips on how to install a tourist or raincoat tent correctly, your night rest will be quite comfortable even in winter (Figure 5).

The main purpose of installing an awning in winter is to keep you warm during the night and not be covered in snow.

To arrange a comfortable winter parking, follow these recommendations:

  1. Carefully assess the area around, preferably with binoculars. Choose the area where you are guaranteed not to be covered with snow and covered with an avalanche. For the same reasons, never set up a tent on the edge of a cliff.
  2. It is better to spend more time looking for a perfectly flat and solid area. In any case, it is faster than tamping it yourself.
  3. If a suitable flat area is not found, level the snow on another. You can even dig a place for a future shelter. But in the process, make sure that the awning is located so that its entrance is not covered with snow.
  4. For installation winter tent ordinary pegs may not be enough. They should be replaced with special anchors. If they are not at hand, use any other objects: crampons, ski poles or thick branches.

Figure 5. In winter, a place for a halt must be looked for especially carefully

When arranging a winter place to sleep, you should also follow the rule regarding the remoteness of the awning from the fire. To keep warm inside the tent, it is better to take a special tourist stove with you.

Setting up a tent has its own characteristics depending on the type of construction and model. If there are no difficulties with the frame options, then it will be more difficult to put up a raincoat, a tent or a half-barrel. Since the second option is considered to be a more modern option, we will provide assembly instructions for just such a tent shelter.

To make the design strong and stable, follow these recommendations:

  1. Remove the tent from the cover, straighten and spread the bottom on the prepared area. Next, pin it with pegs to the ground.
  2. Assemble the arcs and connect them to the rest of the tent.
  3. Now you need to stretch the inner surface of the tent, stretch the awning and fix it on top.

You can also act a little differently. First, the top awning is straightened, the arcs are assembled, inserted into the grooves of the awning and secured with ties. After that, you need to stretch the awning, straighten the tent and attach it to the awning from the bottom side. At the final stage, the bottom is straightened and fixed.

Regardless of the chosen method, a tent set up in one of these ways will meet all the requirements for safety and comfort.

Setting up a children's tent

It is even easier to install a children's tent, because the design of such products is initially extremely simple and safe.

Typically, children's houses are packed in small round cases that are easy to transport or even carry in your hands.

To make a suitable house for children's games in nature, you need to remove the awning from the cover and pull it up by the "ceiling". The design of such houses is such that they are laid out in just seconds. You just have to secure the structure with pegs so that it is not blown away by the wind.

How to set up a cube tent

The cube tent differs from other models in its appearance and appointment. Typically, such structures are used during fishing, but they are also suitable as a temporary shelter for outdoor recreation (Figure 6).

A tent is an essential attribute of any tourist who prefers. It is much more interesting, cheaper and more exciting than classical tourism. Many even prefer to travel to other cities with their own. But here's the problem - not everyone knows where you can pitch a tent, and where it is fraught with small and large troubles. And even banal common sense does not always help in this.

city limits

Any tent set up within the city limits automatically awakens in the guards the reflex “there must be some protesters again”, and ordinary people have a banal curiosity. And this is not to mention the fact that you still need to find a piece of land for this, since, of course, no one will allow you to drive pegs into the asphalt. It would seem that a city park would be a good solution (and some policemen can direct you pitch a tent exactly there) - it seems that there is land, and there are not so many people ... But drunk, curious and aggressive personalities very often come across there. And the place around is deaf ... What is fraught with - no need to tell. Therefore, if the night caught you in the city, try to at least leave the center. There are more places on the outskirts, and fewer people, and the police will not find fault so much. And even better - score on the tent and get acquainted with the wonderful tradition called "fitting in". We will talk about this in more detail someday, but now we will return to our topic.

Banks of reservoirs

Lake, river, sea coast - it doesn't matter. All these places, it would seem, are perfect for pitch a tent. But no, it is better to refrain from this seductive idea. Why? But because hell knows how the weather can behave. If you do not know how, according to various signs, and also do not turn to weather forecasters for information, then an extremely unpleasant surprise may await you. Even moderate rain can cause water to overflow its banks and slowly start to flood you. This, of course, is not fatal, but extremely unpleasant. Hastily packing up the tent and things, looking for shelter, then drying off… Oh well, it’s better to prevent such a problem right away and not pitch a tent near the coast.

Forest with wild animals

You should always find out all the necessary information about the area where you plan to travel. And if you have been warned that wild animals can be found there, you need to remember this. In no case can pitch a tent in the wilderness - the further into the forest, the higher the chances of running into a curious animal. The edge of the forest, the area near the urban or rural areas - any place where the beast will be dumb to go. However, there are situations when spending the night in the forest cannot be avoided. In this arrangement, you need pitch a tent as far as possible from the well-trodden paths and, if possible, mask it. You understand, people sometimes go there, who are far from always kind ...

Large open spaces

Pitch a tent right in the middle of a field is a terrible idea. Worse only to put it in the same place, but on a dais. And the point is not only that you can be seen for several kilometers (and people, as we remember, are different). In this scenario, your lodging for the night will be open to absolutely all possible winds, so the tent will sway from side to side, the wind will howl wildly and you certainly won’t be able to sleep well. And when it rains, a lone towering target can become the object of a lightning strike ... I don’t think you want that.

Private area without permission

Some people take a somewhat radical approach to protecting their private property ... And if you don’t discuss this problem with them first, they can start to do the hell out of them, starting from a banal call to the police, ending with aimed shooting from a hunting weapon. To avoid such problems, try to find the owner of the territory where you plan to spend the night. In rural areas, this is not difficult to do. And if it does not work out, then there are also public territories that no one needs, for which no one is particularly closely watching. But it is better to enlist the permission of the owners of the land.

Of course, there are situations when it is impossible to avoid an unsuccessful decision and you have to put up a tent wherever possible. But in this case, you must be mentally prepared for possible problems and conflicts. And here the right behavior is very important. Knowing the local language helps a lot - in this case, it will be much easier to explain yourself and apologize. But English will work too. At the very least, the servants of the order seem to be obliged to know him. In any case, try to behave as kindly as possible and not create unnecessary problems for yourself and others. And also, try to familiarize yourself with the legislation of the country where you plan to travel in advance. After all, ignorance of the laws does not exempt from responsibility, but knowledge, as a rule, is the opposite.

Setting up a tent is easy. Many people think that the main thing is to buy it, and then you can do everything according to the instructions. Which lies inside the tent cover. And these people put up tents according to the instructions, and sleep in them. ... And then they wake up in the morning with swollen faces and a sore head, in a puddle of water, which, it is not clear how, has flowed inside. If such experiments on yourself are already rather fed up, it is time to read our article.

Finding a place to pitch a tent

As experience shows, a tent can not be set up everywhere. Even if the shop assistants tell you the exact opposite. In order not to get into trouble, it is enough to study the following recommendations.

1. The place for setting up the tent should be flat. Not in terms of slope, but in terms of relief: no protrusions. Practice shows that for some reason people sleep worse on roots, mounds and bumps than on level ground. That's why:

  • If there are stones on the site that you have chosen for the tent, it is better to uproot them.

  • Sharp knots are lying around - it’s better to clean them up: not only will they not let you sleep, but also the bottom of the tent (waterproof by default) will be scratched and pierced.

  • If roots protrude from the ground, and there is nowhere else to become a tent, you can put some soft things in this place. Or just throw branches with leaves on the ground, it will definitely be more comfortable to sleep.

  • Yes, and pay attention that there are no anthills under the tent.

3. Sudden rain can derail all your plans.

According to popular wisdom, "The tent is burning at a rate of $100 per second". Therefore, the distance between the fire and the tent should be at least three meters.

How to put up a tent?

In order to understand how to put up a tent, you must first find out what kind of tent you have available. To date, there are mainly three types of tents on sale: gable (house), hemispherical (frame) and tunnel (half barrel).

1. Gable type tents (house) now somewhat outdated, and you can see them in stores less and less. Their disadvantage is that they take an order of magnitude longer to put up than other tents. In addition, they are not wind resistant enough and rather bulky. Similar tents were good at dawn hiking trips Now they are not being taken anywhere. However, if you suddenly happen to have a tent-house, we will briefly describe how to set it up. For installation gable tent you must first put the roof - and then stretch the bottom. The roof is placed using two vertical posts placed inside or outside the tent. After the vertical base is set, the bottom of the tent and the awning are carefully stretched. Please note that the awning may not always lag behind the inner wall. In this type of tent, this is a normal phenomenon ...

2. hemispherical frame tent is undoubtedly the top seller in travel stores around the world. It is easy to assemble and disassemble, it is quite wind-resistant and durable. Such a tent is set up at the expense of arcs - of which there are at least two in it. The simplest tent of this kind is set up as follows: After choosing a place, spread an inner tent on the ground (the one with a net and a black bottom). After that, assemble the arcs by inserting their parts one into the other - and lay the arcs crosswise over the inside of the tent. Then, depending on the design of the tent: a) arcs are either inserted into the holes in the corners of the inner tent, and then attached to it using special hooks; b) either they are first threaded through special fabric grooves, and after that they are already attached to the bottom of the tent. In any case, after the fraud done, you have a white inner tent. Fasten the arcs on top of it by tying them with special ropes that are on the tent. This is necessary for a more rigid design. Now we throw an awning over the tent, not forgetting to match the exit located on the awning with the exit located on the inner tent. The awning can be fastened to the arcs from the inside (so it will be harder to hold on to the tent), or simply begin to be attached to the ground with pegs. With the help of pegs, it is necessary to stretch the vestibule - and the awning itself: if it is not adjacent to the inner tent, condensate from breathing will not accumulate on its walls. Otherwise, you have a chance to wake up among wet things: with breathing, we release quite a lot of moisture. So stretch the pegs as best you can. The inner tent itself can not be stretched with pegs: it stands perfectly on the ground itself thanks to the frame. If you still decide to do this, stretch before you cover the tent with an outer awning and fix it. Storm stretch marks (bright ropes along the edges of the awning) need to be stretched only if the tent is in an open area and you are afraid of strong winds. If you are camping in the woods, these stretches are completely unnecessary. In addition, people passing by the tent will definitely trip over them.

3. Half-shell tents a little more difficult to put up (the previous type of tents is put up even alone!). However, they have much more free space, the awning is very far from the inner walls (they will never be wet), and in the vestibules from the half-barrels, a few more people can usually fit (which in bad weather will bring together the whole company). When installing a half-barrel tent, it should be remembered that its frame consists of several semicircular arcs parallel to each other. It is on how they are fixed with pegs that the stability of your tent depends. And therefore it is desirable to leave for the tent By more space to spread it better. In the construction of a half-barrel, an awning is usually first stretched on the arcs, to which, after that, the inner tent is fastened from the inside. Therefore, first you need to try to stretch the tent itself - and then from the inside, first attach a tent to it, and then stretch the bottom of the tent with pegs so that there is more space. In dry weather, the inner tent can be left unfastened from the awning: the installation time of the half-barrel is saved. But in the rain better tents unfasten, shake out separately - and dry separately from each other as soon as possible. And then the weight of your backpack due to the water accumulated by the tent will increase significantly. NOTE: Recently, hemispherical tents have gained popularity, where an awning is first stretched on the arcs, and then a tent is attached from the inside. A sort of hybrids of the second and third species. The advantage of such tents is that the inner tent can be easily laid out in the rain under the top awning - and it will remain dry. Besides, in good weather you can just place outer awning, put things under it or sit down yourself, and not fool yourself with setting up the entire tent. The installation of such a tent is extremely simple: first, arcs are threaded into the tent from above, which are fixed on it, and then the inner part is already fastened from the inside.
