Map with Khao Lak panorama. Khao Lak is the perfect resort for a relaxing beach holiday! Nightlife Khao Lak

If you leave Phuket for the mainland and follow Highway 4 to the north, in an hour you will be in Khao Lak. Many people think that Khao Lak is one beach, which is not entirely true. Khao Lak is the coastal area around Mount Lak in Phang Nga Province. There are a couple of villages here, and the coastline of more than 25 kilometers is divided into several beaches. First, it’s worth telling a little about the Khao Lak area as a whole, so that you get an impression of it. This place is suitable for lovers of a relaxing holiday with the whole family or a romantic couple. There is no wild music here, only small bars with live music where you can have a beer or drink an exotic cocktail to the sounds of a local band. During the season from November to April, Khao Lak is busy, but during the monsoon season, when waves appear on the sea, the number of tourists decreases and some restaurants and shops close. Waves in the low season are of different heights, sometimes it is impossible to go into the water.

Attractions Khao Lak

In Phang Nga province, there are quite a few attractions where you should go. From here it is convenient to get to the island and the Surin Islands, raft down the river on a bamboo raft or arrange rafting in an inflatable boat, or go to. In Phang Nga, you can visit, or, explore the famous Elephant Stomach Cave or see with numerous islets. I recommend meeting the dawn at the observation deck of Samet Nangshe. In the Khao Lak area itself, there are several waterfalls, elephant farms, a Thai boxing school, a national park with jungle paths and observation deck. A little further south along the coast - hot springs and other natural attractions. Every year the popularity of Thailand among the Russian population increases several times. Paradise islands, picturesque nature, white sandy beaches with the turquoise sea turn the country into a world-class resort. In addition to crowded places, Thailand still has quiet and secluded resorts. And one of these places can be called Khao Lak, which is located in the southern part of the Kingdom.

Khao Lak is one of the few Thai resorts that impresses with its tranquility and comfort. Even at the height of the season, there are few people here. Maybe it is because of this that the beaches and the sea itself are distinguished by their cleanliness. Initially, Khao Lak was called a small settlement on the coast of the Andaman Sea. But the rapid development of the tourism sector has united several settlements under this name. If you now look at the map, you can see that geographically it occupies an area from the sea itself to the mountain strip. Khao Lak is surrounded by three national parks, where even today you can find unique vegetation and rare fauna.

Very close to Khao Lak is the island of Phuket. The distance between the resort and Phuket Town is about 100 kilometers. Unlike a noisy island, Khao Lak is quiet and peaceful. This beautiful place For family vacation especially with small children. Numerous wellness centers, spas, and yoga clubs are located here. A visit to Khao Lak can combine unforgettable vacation along with medical procedures.

If you look at the pricing policy, it is slightly higher here than in other popular resorts. This feature can be explained by the remoteness of Khao Lak, a low flow of people, as well as numerous upscale hotels.

When is the best time to go?

Like most resorts in Thailand, Khao Lak has a clear delineation of seasons according to weather conditions. Best time for a holiday on Khao Lak from late November to April. From about May to November, the territory of the resort falls under the influence of the western monsoon, which brings rainy weather. But even so, the air temperature practically does not fall below 22 degrees. To a greater extent, torrential rains fall at night, and in the morning the sun appears again. Trouble can bring strong winds that raise waves, and swimming in the sea has to be postponed. In addition, excursions to world famous ones are closed.

If you still decide to visit Khao Lak in summer time then it is better to choose a hotel with good developed infrastructure. Such hotels have at their disposal beautiful swimming pools, which can be visited on stormy days.

Infrastructure

Despite the fact that Khao Lak is not particularly popular resort among vacationers, the development of infrastructure here has a high rate. Of course, there are no huge shopping and entertainment centers within the city, but everything you need can be purchased in one of the many shops in Khao Lak. The most popular supermarket among the local population and vacationers is Nang Thong. Here you can buy everything you need, from personal hygiene products to all kinds of food and alcoholic beverages.

If you need something non-essential, you can visit the 7/11 stores that are located throughout the resort. They sell food, the most necessary things for everyday life, as well as hot meals that will be warmed up for you right at the checkout.

Along the main street and in the area of the beaches, there are many shops where you can find inexpensive obera and shoes.

In order to purchase any souvenirs, it is worth visiting one of the local markets. In the city of Baan La One every day, in the area central square, the market works. In addition to souvenirs, you can find various paintings, figurines, jewelry and more. Also, while visiting the market, you will have the opportunity to try the national Thai cuisine, including all kinds of exotic food.

A market with fresh fruits and vegetables is open in the morning within Khuk Khak Beach.

There are many restaurants and bars throughout Khao Lak. Lovers of romantic evenings can sit in one of the beach establishments. During dinner, you can admire the most beautiful evening sunsets.

More reputable restaurants are located along the main road, as well as a little away from the coastline.

It is also worth noting that in almost all cafes and restaurants of Khao Lak, not only Thai dishes are presented, but also many European ones. The average price of lunch is 200-300 baht.

Attractions and entertainment

Within Khao Lak itself, there are not very many attractions. Many of the resort's beaches are the starting point for the Similan Islands, Bon and, which are in the top ten the most beautiful places planets. The islands are open only from October to May, so if you are planning a trip to them during your vacation, you should choose a convenient time in advance.

Another interesting place to visit is.

From Khao Lak it is very convenient to get to the Khao Sok National Park, which is known for its rich flora and fauna. Within the resort itself, you can visit Lam Ru Park, deserted beaches, as well as numerous waterfalls, including Lampi, Sai Rung, Tong Pling and others. Also in the jungle of the resort, you can ride on elephants. And the azure sea is suitable for diving.

Beaches

On the beaches of Khao Lak, you almost never see a lot of people. This is not the kind of place where you need to come at 7 o'clock in the morning in order to get a seat. Absolutely all the beaches of the resort stretch in a wide strip along the sea and have a smooth transition between them. If you look at the map, then even there it will not be possible to see a clear boundary between them.

Main Feature resort is that it is very rarely exposed to tropical winds. High reefs create an excellent natural barrier to strong waves. This is what makes it available 12 months a year.

The most popular among vacationers are the following beaches:

1)Khao Lak. This beach is located in the southern part of the resort within the Similan National Park Authority. There are no umbrellas and sun loungers on the beach, but large trees grow right on the seashore, in the shade of which you can hide. A wide variety of souvenirs made from sea shells are sold on the beaches.

2)Nang Thong is one of the most visited beaches of Khao Lak. Within its boundaries are concentrated high-class hotels and restaurants with excellent cuisine. This is a great place for snorkeling, as not far from the coast there is a beautiful coral reef where you can see not only a variety of fish, but also turtles. In the southern part of Nang Tong, there is an opportunity to take some wonderful photos against the backdrop of an evening sunset.

3)Bang Niang- a beach with a well-developed infrastructure. One of the few in Thailand where sun loungers, umbrellas are installed, and there are also various water activities. Not far from the coast there are many massage parlors and various cafes.

Hotels

When planning a train to Khao Lak, keep in mind that it does not belong to the cheapest resorts in the country. There is no lodging worth a few hundred baht in one night. Most of the hotels that are located along the coast have a 4 or 5 star status. Accordingly, the pricing policy per day of placement will start from 3000 baht. Among such hotels I can recommend the following great options: Briza Beach Resort , Ramada Khao Lak Resort and JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort and Spa .

The small island of Khao Lak was previously just a small village. But over time, several small villages located nearby along the coast of the Andaman Sea united into one large tourist centre. Khao Lak is located just 100 km north of the popular Phuket, and unlike its neighbor is famous for its calm and relaxed atmosphere. This resort is one of the pearls of Thailand: 20 km of beautiful sandy beaches, transparent sea, palm trees with swings, and nearby hills and mountains covered with jungle, and a national park. Khao Lak is also chosen as a convenient base point for traveling to neighboring islands - Similans, Surins, to national Khao parks Sok and Khao Lak, to Phang Nga Bay and many other places.

Today we will tell you in detail about this resort and what you can do here: beaches, excursions, hotels, activities and other useful information.

By the way, all our articles about the country can be read in the section.

Description Khao Lak

Khao Lak is perfect for those who want some privacy and tranquility, families with children and couples in love. But lovers of club and night entertainment will not find anything to do here. And in the low season (from April to November), the resort is generally empty.

First of all, I would like to note that Khao Lak is called the entire region with a length of 20 km from south to north, although the area near Mount Lak has such a name. The rest is a few resort villages along the coast. Here are their names from south to north:

Bang La On (Bang La On)

This village is considered the center of Khao Lak with a developed infrastructure: hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, massage parlors and everything that a tourist might need. If you are coming here by bus, then by default this place will be considered the final stop where you will be taken, and if you need to get off in another village, say so. When booking a hotel, check its exact location.

The bus stop is located next to the supermarket, from there there is a road to the beach.

Road to Bang Niang Beach

Bang Niang (Bang Niang)

Literally 2 km to the north is the village of Bang Niang, a less touristy and more peaceful place, the only active place which is the market on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The center of the village is the 7-11 store, from which there is a road to the beach.

Sunset at Bang Niang

Khuk Khak (Khuk Khak)

Khuk Khuk is a very quiet "Thai" place. Here is a small bus station and the market. and there are very few people on the beach.

Khao Lak more than other places in Thailand suffered from devastating tsunami 2004, when giant waves hit the coast, taking the lives of thousands of people with them. After this incident, there is a modern warning system that has been tested in Indonesia and has shown excellent results.

Climate in Khao Lak

There are 2 seasons: dry (November to March) and rainy (April to October). As elsewhere, in the rainy season, the cost of everything falls, you can negotiate a significant discount for yourself, but on New Year and Christmas, on the contrary, is the peak season and prices are higher for everything.

The dry season is best for traveling, especially if you are going to the Similan Islands, because trips there are canceled during the rainy season. In general, the region is quite humid and there is a lot of precipitation.

How to get there?

It is most convenient to get to Khao Lak from Phuket, but it is also possible from Bangkok, because the bulk of flights from Russia arrive in the capital.

Alternatively, contact your hotel in advance and arrange to be picked up.

It will be much cheaper to take the bus. From Phuket Airport, you first need to get to any bus station or just to a stop on route 4. From the bus station there are buses to Bangkok, Ranong, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Takua Pa and along the way they pass Khao Lak. The bus fare is 100 baht, the journey takes 2 hours.

Paradise places!

Khao Lak — Bangkok

From Bangkok, it is best to take a bus to Phuket at the southern bus station and say that you need to Khao Lak. Usually the transfers are at night, and if you sit down late in the evening in Bangkok, you will be there in the morning. The second option is to take a bus to Surat Thani, and then transfer to a bus to Khao Lak.

You can also get by train to Surat Thani by choosing night crossing, and from there take a bus to Phuket, which passes Khao Lak. In total, such a journey will take 14 hours and can be quite cheap if you take a ticket to the 3rd class carriage, but do not expect comfort. Or take a ticket to a recumbent car, but the cost will be comparable to the bus, which in my opinion is preferable.

Khao Lak beaches

People come to the resort primarily to the beaches, and Khao Lak certainly boasts of them! More than 20 km of beautiful sandy beaches, many of which are very few people. Conventionally, all of them can be divided into southern, central and northern part. The central part is the most active with good infrastructure, but in the northern and southern parts the beaches are completely wild, rarely where you will find cafes or sun loungers - perfect for lovers of peace.

south beach south beach) also called Khao Lak beach, as the village of the same name is nearby. He is in south of the cape and the Lac Mountains, and not far from here is the entrance to the national park. The length of the beach is about 2 km, there are several cafes, exchangers, very quiet and peaceful.

Nang Thong and Sunset Beach located opposite the village of Bang La On - the most popular and active beaches of Khao Lak. In the village you will find many guesthouses and hotels, restaurants and cafes, massage parlors, money changers and even Mc’Donalds. The beach makes a good impression: there is a shade from palm trees and trees, the sand is medium, the water is clear, and the entrance to the sea is not sharp, but not very gentle either. And there are not so many people, considering that this is the busiest place on Khao Lak. And there is also a swing hanging from the trees, so a great photo shoot in the background azure sea secured!

On Nang Thong beach

Bang Niang beach is located opposite the village of the same name, a couple of kilometers north of Nang Thong. There are already fewer people here, but the tourist infrastructure is quite well developed: there are tour agencies, massages, bars, restaurants, and at the turn from the main road to the beach there is a 7-11 store. There are many luxurious hotels and restaurants on Bang Niang Beach - we even took a special walk around the territory of one of the villas, it's gorgeous!

Bang Niang beach

Khuk Khak beach located even further north and is one of the quietest and most peaceful. There are only a few hotels and resorts, and palm plantations around - it's nice to ride a bike or bicycle. The tourist infrastructure is poorly developed, everything is limited to specific hotels.

Pakarang beach located a little to the north, not far from Cape Pakarang, the westernmost point of Thailand. A good place for walking and snorkeling, there are a lot of corals in the sea, but for a classic beach holiday it is better to choose another place.

Pak Weeb beach adjoins Cape Pakarang. An excellent uncrowded beach with light sand and swings in the trees. There are several luxurious hotels and villas around.

Khao Lak is very conveniently located in relation to the nearest interesting places, and from here you can organize good trips.

Police boat 813. At a distance of 2 km from the coast there is a boat that was brought here by the 2004 tsunami. It was decided not to remove it anywhere and leave it in place. All the people in it died, as did many others on the shore. Now, work is underway to create a museum, but for now there are just a few stands with photographs of those events.

Khao Lak on the map of Thailand

Marked beaches and some important points on the map

Not long ago I visited resort of Khao Varnish, which for some reason is still not popular with our compatriots. I'm sure many still don't even know where Khao Lak is located on the map of Thailand, let alone visit it. In order to eliminate this injustice, I wrote this post, the town is good and great for a relaxing holiday.

Short description

Khao Lak is a quiet and not crowded resort even during peak season. Since there is little entertainment in it, the contingent is mostly pensioners. Therefore, if you need nightlife and constant activities, then Khao Lak is most likely not suitable for you. There is only nature, waterfalls, national park and all. But for those who are looking for relaxation or come with children, it seems to me that they should like it here.

First of all, throughout the resort gorgeous beaches, and most importantly, they are not crowded. You can find smaller places (where it is good with a small child), you can go deeper. And you can walk along the entire length of the beach, which is what many vacationers do, there are kilometers for walking. I already wrote mine, I will not repeat myself.

There are 7 beaches/districts in total, but it makes sense to stop at only 4: Bang Niang, Nang Thong, Khao Lak, Khuk Khak. Arranged in descending order of infrastructure, and in the latter it is not at all, only the one that will be in your hotel. But in Bang Niang there are 7/11, and full of cafes, and hotels for every taste, and in Nang Tong there is even a McDonald's :) Here's a selection for you.

Where is Khao Lak

Khao Lak is located on the mainland (not on an island) north of Phuket on the Adaman coast. And it’s easier to get to it from Phuket. That is, you can fly to Phuket airport and from there get to the resort. Moreover, to go to Khao Lak from Phuket airport is about the same as to the very southern point Phuket, because there are often traffic jams in Phuket.

Look at the very bottom of the post on the map to make it clearer.

How to get to Khao Lak

There are several ways to get there. The easiest and fastest way, if we talk about the flight from Russia. If you fly to Bangkok, then it will take much longer to get there.

By car

The easiest way to get there is by car. Type in navigator Google Maps or another program) Khao Lak and follow his instructions. If you are coming from Phuket, then immediately after leaving the bridge across the bay, you need to keep to the left along 402 and then continue along the Adaman coast along Highway 4. Continue along the main road without turning until you reach Khao Lak. The distance from Phuket Airport to Khao Lak (Bang Niang) is about 80 km, and the drive takes no more than 1 hour 30 minutes, or you can get there in 1 hour if you don’t stop anywhere and drive fast.

It takes much longer to get from Bangkok, as if you were driving. After you pass Chumphon, you will need to turn right onto highway 4006, and follow it to the Adaman coast to highway 4. Or pass both Chumphon and Surat Thani, and immediately after Surat Thani go right to highway 401, and drive along it past to the Adaman coast and highway 4.

In my opinion, the easiest way to book is through. Immediately on one site you will see offers from all major distributors. And the price will be lower than if you take it directly.

By taxi

Taxi is also easy to reach, but it costs more than the bus. You can take a taxi, both immediately at the airport, and just on the island, by contacting any street travel agency and ordering it. The price will be about 1800-2500 baht, depending on the car (minibus is more expensive) and the arrogance of taxi drivers. In this regard, it is best to book in travel agencies, they have more or less fixed prices, they will not be called from the ceiling. Well, and if from the airport, then all the prices hang on the counter. Probably, you can bargain and find someone who will take you cheaper, but I don’t know how realistic this is. I'd rather order in advance via the Internet, but more on that below.

Transfer online

Alternatively, order a transfer online through or. For the price, everything is the same as a regular taxi, but in general there is a minimum of body movements, you will be met with a sign and taken by the hand. And it's convenient that you can book in advance via the Internet, sitting at home. I recommend!

I have already traveled by transfer from this company and was completely satisfied with it. We were met with a sign, put in a car and taken to the hotel. Here .

By bus

From the Phuket airport, you need to take a minibus to the bus station (cost 100 baht), there you can already buy a bus ticket from Phuket to Khao Lak (cost 100 baht). You need buses to Surat Thani, Ranong, Chumphon, Takua Pa. Alternatively, take a tuk-tuk from the airport to the highway where buses run and catch them there (this is faster than to the bus station). But personally, I don’t like this method because from afar it’s completely incomprehensible which bus is traveling, you can not have time to slow it down. Yes, and when he is already passing by, the sign is not always clear, maybe in Thai.

IN reverse side to get from Khao Lak to Phuket - go to the highway and catch a bus towards Phuket. Everything is already much simpler here, because all the buses will just go there. If you need an airport, then tell the bus driver and he will stop near the turn, from where a tuk-tuk will take you to the airport.

Khao Lak on the map of Thailand

I deliberately placed here a map with beaches, and not just one point denoting the city, because all these beaches belong to Khao Lak. You can immediately estimate the geographical location and approximate size of the resort. But! I remind you that it consists of several small villages and it is best to live in Bang Niang or Nang Thong. Moreover, the area called Khao Lak is not the most successful, but in principle the beach is good there, so you can stay there.
