It is planned to resume launches from Sea Launch in 2019, according to Filev's presentation. Until 2023, it is planned to order 12 missiles. These will be Zenit missiles manufactured by the Ukrainian plant Yuzhmash, they will be supplied from Ukraine to the American subsidiary of S7, the S7 Sea Launch company, two people close to different sides of the project said.

The presentation says that investments in the launch of the project, including the resumption of launches, will amount to $220 million. And Russian companies (primarily S7 structures) participating in the process will receive $500 million in export earnings.

At the second stage, a new two-stage rocket is supposed to be launched. Who will develop and produce it, the presentation does not say. It only states that S7 is ready to order 50 and enter into an option for another 35.

And at the third stage, S7 Group plans to create an orbital spaceport based on the Russian segment of the International space station(ISS). From the cosmodrome, cargo ships, driven by space tugs with nuclear electric propulsion engines, will launch to the Moon and other planets. It is assumed that the tugs will be delivered in a folded form to the spaceport, they will receive part of their energy from solar panels deployed in space. In space, cargo will also dock to them.

The S7 Group agreement with Energia provides for the lease of the ISS from 2024 to organize an orbital cosmodrome, says a person close to one of the parties to the transaction. In 2016, Energia and Boeing agreed to operate the ISS until 2024 - these companies are responsible from Russia and the United States for the ISS segments.

For 10 years, the global market for commercial space launches has almost doubled and amounted to about $215 billion in 2016, Filev's presentation says. Almost $95 billion came from the United States.

Private business in Russia has not yet entered this area. And in the West, Elon Musk's American SpaceX has advanced the farthest. She mastered the production and launch of the medium Falcon 9 rocket and the heavy Falcon Heavy. Last year, Musk announced plans to master the organization of flights to Mars.

The businessman believes that the first flight to Mars may take place as early as 2022. The flight time to Mars will be about 80 days. Musk is sure that someday people will make the Earth uninhabitable and humanity should be ready to move to other planets.

Filev at a press conference in 2016 stressed several times that he hopes to make the most of the space program and is not afraid of competition in the global market for commercial launches with SpaceX and other players.

“There is a certain crisis in the space industry now due to the lack of breakthrough ideas,” says Sergey Nedoroslev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kaskol Group of Companies, co-owner of the Launch Services company. On the one hand, communications and even the Internet, navigation, services for monitoring the earth's surface for various industries have long gone into space. On the other hand, national governments are constantly changing goals, but traditionally it was they who set clear goals for private and public companies and financed them, the businessman says. “So what now? Explore the Moon, Mars? But why, if they have already been on the Moon, and Mars was not lucky - the competition of ideologies [between the USSR and the USA] and, accordingly, the demonstration of opportunities, has ended, ”Nedoroslev argues.

The resulting vacuum is filled by private companies that set ambitious - on the scale of the entire terrestrial civilization - goals: bases on the Moon, colonization of Mars, extraction of useful resources in space, flights to the stars, Nedoroslev continues. And they have money to carry them out.

The project to launch launch vehicles from Sea Launch could be commercially successful, the businessman believes. But there are risks, as in any business. The new Soyuz-5 rocket for the project is being developed by RSC Energia, and the conference announced a five-year delivery time and a fixed price. But the product is complex, the cooperation is huge, and there are risks both to miss the deadlines and not fit into the declared price. Meanwhile, launches are contracted for a depth of up to 5-6 years. Therefore, today it is necessary to conclude contracts with a specific date, and for this you need to be sure of the timing of the receipt of missiles.

However, the Filevs have not yet closed the deal to buy Sea Launch. This can happen within two months, says a person close to one of the parties to the transaction. Approval from US regulators has already been received (the platform is based in the port of Long Beach in California). Representatives of S7 and Energia did not respond to Vedomosti's requests.

Corrected version. In the second paragraph, the information about the purchase of the spaceport has been corrected.

Since November 15, 2010, the airline has been the tenth full member of the Oneworld global aviation alliance.

According to the British analytical agency OAG, S7 Airlines entered the top 10 most punctual European airlines, taking sixth place in the Punctuality League 2019 ranking.

The headquarters of the airline is located in the city of Ob, Novosibirsk Region, near Tolmachevo Airport.

Story

Base

In 1957, from a military airfield in the Novosibirsk region, the future Tolmachevo airport, the first civilian flight was made on the route Novosibirsk - Moscow on a Tu-104 aircraft. This event is considered the birth of the Tolmachevo United Air Squadron.

35 years later - in 1992 - on the basis of the Tolmachevsky united air squadron, the state airline "Siberia" was formed. In 1994 the company was privatized. Since 2001, negotiations were underway to sell the state-owned stake in Siberia (25.5%), but there were no buyers. At the same time, "Siberia" received the international IATA code.

In 2001, Siberia Airlines became a full member of the International Air Transport Association IATA. At the same time, the company bought Vnukovo Airlines and became the second largest airline in Russia and the first in terms of domestic traffic.

Rebranding and further development

The turning point for Siberia was 2008: on its basis and structural divisions, the S7 Group group of companies was created, rebranding and changing the coloring of aircraft fuselages were carried out.

On November 15, 2010, S7 Airlines, together with its sister airline Globus, entered the international aviation alliance Oneworld, which allowed the airline to sell tickets through code-share partnerships with the world's leading airlines.

In 2011, the state again put up its stake in S7 Airlines for auction three times, but all of them did not take place due to the lack of applicants for the purchase. Experts explained the failures in the privatization of the package by the fact that it is not interesting for portfolio investors due to the high starting price (1.8 - 2.9 billion rubles), and for strategic ones - because of the size of the package, which does not give the right to really influence the management of the airline.

On October 21, 2015, co-owner of S7 Group Vladislav Filev signed an agreement to purchase at least 51% of Transaero shares. According to Filev himself, the purpose of the purchase was to prevent the bankruptcy of Transaero, which has been suffering financial problems since the end of 2014. Subsequently, Vladislav Filev refused this deal.

In 2016, S7 Airlines was the first among Russian airlines to introduce the latest NDC (New Distribution Capability) sales technology developed by the International Air Transport Association. Communication between the airline and agencies is carried out through a tool developed by S7 Group in accordance with IATA NDC standards and called S7 Agent API. S7 Airlines sold the first tickets using the NDC standard in March 2016. As of July 2016, only about 20 airlines in the world use the NDC protocol.

In early 2017, S7 began flying its first Embraer E170LR regional aircraft. [ ] The airline received the aircraft in an updated livery designed by the British agency Landor. This livery was also applied to the new Airbus A320neo liners. Thus, the airline began a new phase of rebranding. The change of livery went in parallel with the renewal of the fleet.

At the end of 2016, S7 Airlines replaced a paper letter of credit by switching to a blockchain platform.

In August 2019, S7 Airlines temporarily returned the name "Siberia Airlines" and launched an initiative to replenish the forest area lost during fires in Siberia. From August 1, 2019, the company will donate 100 rubles for planting trees from each ticket sold on the website and in the mobile application to Siberian destinations. On the official page of the campaign, funds are being raised for the forest replenishment fund - you can donate any amount or miles (for active members of the S7 Priority loyalty program). The airline plans to return to the S7 Airlines brand only after the fund has enough funds to plant 1,000,000 trees.

corporate data

Owners and management

The controlling stake in Siberia Airlines JSC, which is 71.3%, belongs to the group of companies S7 Group. The state sold its 25.5% to C7 Group of Companies CJSC on May 30, 2013, the transaction is subject to registration by order of the Government of Russia. The rest of the shares belong to the management of S7 Airlines.

On May 12, 2009, the Board of Directors of the airline appointed Vladimir Obedkov as the new General Director of Siberia Airlines. Before him, this post was held by Vladislav Filev, who is now a co-owner and CEO of the parent company S7 Group.

Mergers and acquisitions

In 2002, Siberia Airlines gained control over Vnukovo Airlines OJSC, as a result of which it expanded its network of routes from Moscow. In the same year, the airline bought a controlling stake in Armavia, reselling it then in 2005 [ ] .

In 2008, an offer was sent to the Austrian State Property Management Agency (OeIAG) to buy 43% of Austrian Airlines. If the deal were concluded, the Russian airline would receive an additional 3 million passengers a year at Vienna airport. However, the deal for S7 failed due to the fact that the company did not have time to submit documents. As a result, Austrian Airlines were acquired by Lufthansa.

In addition, Siberia Airlines participated in a tender announced in June 2014 for the purchase of the Cypriot airline Cyprus Airways, which is suffering losses. The application of S7 Airlines was rejected, and the Greek Aegean Airlines and the Irish Ryanair were admitted to the final stage of the tender.

On October 20, 2015, Vladislav Filev, CEO and co-owner of the S7 Group group of companies, and Alexander Pleshakov, the largest shareholder of Transaero Airlines, which was experiencing problems at that time, signed an agreement to sell a controlling stake ("at least 51%") of Transaero shares to S7 shareholders. It was reported that the new owners would try to avoid the bankruptcy of Transaero. The Ministry of Economic Development proposed to give S7 route network Transaero. However, the deal subsequently fell through, according to co-owner of S7 Group Natalia Fileva, due to the fact that Transaero shareholders were unable to collect a controlling stake, which is not burdened with obligations to third parties.

On August 8, 2019, it was renamed back to "Siberia" to recall the forest fires that have already spread to more than 3 million hectares. Fundraising began for planting 1,000,000 trees. When the required amount is collected. The airline will return, renamed to the previous name. Present at the scene, the Airbus A320 was rolled out of the paint shop in the city Mineral water in an updated livery.
