Where are the petronas towers? Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia

Malaysia is another Asian country where I really dreamed of going and, of course, taking a famous photo against the backdrop of the twin towers, which were once the tallest buildings in the world. This is the most popular place, travelers arriving in Kuala Lumpur go there almost first of all. You can say that you have not been to Kuala Lumpur if you do not have such a photo. And I'm no exception to the rule.

To be honest, what else you can see in this city, I did not know until the very arrival there. It turned out to be something to look at. But you can read about other attractions.

Before coming to Kuala Lumpur, I imagined this city consisting of only skyscrapers, among which are the twin towers. But in reality, I saw that there are not so many skyscrapers, multi-storey buildings - yes, they are present, but perhaps not all of them can be called super-high.

The towers are really impressive, I saw them for the first time right from the hotel window. In general, they are visible from almost anywhere in the city. And what panoramas open at night are simply breathtaking!

I arrived in Malaysia in the evening, and it was already dark, so I went straight from the airport to the hotel. My room was located on a relatively high floor, so the view from the window was simply amazing! And thanks to such circumstances it was possible to make interesting photos graphics on the background of the towers. The next day it was decided to go directly to them and study everything in more detail.

What is the Petronas skyscraper in Malaysia?

Why twin towers and why Petronas? This question popped into my head.

It turned out that they are named after the state oil company Petronas, which decided to overtake America and build the world's tallest skyscraper. And they did it. Towers were erected from 1992 to 1996. As a result, Petronas were recognized as the tallest building in the world, moving the Chicago skyscraper Sea Tower from the first line.

The height of the twin towers was 451.9 meters or 88 floors. But already in 2003, they lost their championship to Taipei 101 in Taiwan.

The two towers were built by two different companies is said to improve performance. And due to the fact that the soil in this place turned out to be soft, the piles were driven in more than 100 meters. The result was the deepest concrete foundation in the world. The towers house offices, a theater, art Gallery, concert hall, cafes and restaurants, as well as a shopping center. And work in them, imagine, more than ten thousand people. Broken at the foot beautiful park with fountains and pools, which is very nice to walk around and take a photo.

On the 86th floor is Observation deck, and on the 42nd floor, two buildings are connected by a covered bridge. This bridge, by the way, is also the highest in the world.

How to get to the Petronas Twin Towers

I found out that the towers are located in the KLCC area (see on the map), and there are several ways to get there:

  • If you live in the nearest area, then you can walk, just follow the direction to the towers. I noticed very few pedestrians on the streets, maybe because it is too hot, maybe because the roads are practically not provided for them.
  • Get there by taxi. Catch a car, ask to turn on the meter, explain that you want to see the towers. Such a trip will cost about $4 or RM15 (depending on your location and time of day). And it is also desirable that the Internet and a navigator work for you, which will show the nearest route to the towers, otherwise Asian drivers can take you around the city with a breeze in order to increase the meter reading.

  • get there public transport. The nearest metro station, KLCC, is a 5-minute walk from the towers.

  • The nearest monorail station, Bukit Nanas Monorail, is a bit further away and is a 15-minute walk away.

  • Well, if you have connecting flight, and you only have a day to see the towers, then go there directly from the airport either by taxi or metro if it's not night. To do this, you need to take the KLIA Express from the airport, which will take you to the KL Sentral station in a little less than 30 minutes and for about $ 10 (38 ringgit). There, change to the Kelana Jaya metro line and follow to the KLCC station, then walk 5 minutes and you are there.

For myself, I chose a taxi. True, on the way the driver managed to show me a catalog with excursions and offer his services in the near future. This was not part of my plans, so I politely thanked him and left right at the foot of the twin towers.

And here I stand and think... Is it worth it for me to climb them or can I just walk around and take interesting photos, because I saw the giants themselves from the window of my hotel, and it really pleased me, but what will I see from the towers themselves?

Opening hours and cost of attendance

An hourly visit to the Petronas Towers in Malaysia costs 85 ringgit - about $ 20, depending on the current exchange rate.

You can buy tickets at the box office or on the official website. There, on the website, you can find out in detail the hours and days of the visit. They go upstairs in groups: first to the transparent bridge, and then to the 86th floor of the tower. They work for visiting tourists daily from 9.00 to 21.00, excluding Mondays.

Of course, it is worth visiting the towers, but as for climbing the observation deck and the bridge, maybe not. Here everyone makes a decision for himself. Previously, it was free, you just had to come early and stand in line for a couple of hours. And now the rise costs $ 20, and you can’t do without queues. Therefore, I decided that I would not climb, and went to explore the area around.

A wonderful garden at the Petronas Towers or how to take a super photo

And all around is broken tropical garden, where you can rest in the shade of vegetation and make beautiful pictures which is what I decided to do.

This park contains almost 2,000 unique plant species from around the world, there are sculptures, bridges, fountains, a lake and walking areas. Well, if you want to do nice photos towers, then you can’t do without a visit to the park. Here are the best places to shoot.

Moving along the paths, you will meet signs along the way indicating that you can take a great shot from this angle. There are more than 10 of them, so a walk through the park took me about an hour. And I even sat down to rest in one of the arbors in the shade.

By the way, the park has free toilets in excellent condition. If you are visiting Kuala Lumpur with children, then walking through this oasis will give you great pleasure, because for the little guests there is even a pool with a waterfall.

Entrance to the park is free.

Where to eat near the Petronas Towers and hide from the sweltering heat

After I walked around the park and took photos from all angles against the backdrop of the famous twin towers, I was honestly tired and realized that I needed to cool off in an air-conditioned room. And the best solution was to go to the Suria KLCC shopping center, located between the towers.

On the lowest floor there is a Foodmarket supermarket and various cafes, where I enjoyed a bite of sushi at a reasonable price of about $ 5. There is a good food court on the third floor. Also on the territory of the shopping center are a cinema, a concert hall and an art gallery.

On the first floor there are boutiques of world famous brands, including Chanel, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and so on; on the second and third floors there are shops of more democratic brands Mango, Benetton and others. Even if you don't intend to shop, Suria KLCC is still worth a visit, the center is striking in its beauty, and it is also a great opportunity to eat and cool off a bit.

See the twin towers at night

It seemed to me that a day trip to the twin towers was not enough, and I decided to go there late in the evening to see all the beauty in a different color. And it really was worth it!

A the best place to view all the details, became the famous Sky Bar. It is located on the 33rd floor of the Traders Hotel, which is next to the park.

The bar offers a breathtaking panorama of the whole of Kuala Lumpur and, of course, the twin towers.

The highlight of the SkyBar is the illuminated pool, around which there are comfortable sofas: perfect place for a romantic evening or for those who love to party. I belong to the latter, so I enjoyed spending half the night there.

***

Summing up my trip to Malaysia, I can say that it was a success. And another dream came true. And, of course, the famous photo with the twin towers in the background appeared in my collection!

I spent a wonderful time in Kuala Lumpur, visited many interesting places have great memories of this city. But still, the most important place to visit, which I was especially impressed with, is undoubtedly the Petronas Twin Towers!

A real work of modern art, Islamic-style skyscrapers, the tallest twin towers in the world, a symbol of Malaysia. All this is about the Petronas Towers, which are located in the capital of the country - Kuala Lumpur.

Made in the form of two cobs of corn, the Petronas Towers at the same time correspond to all the canons of Islamic architecture.

The skyscrapers were completed in 1998. The Petronas Towers, 452 meters high, have 88 floors, which contain various offices, conference rooms, but tourists will be most interested, of course, in an art gallery or a concert hall. The art gallery presents both classical and contemporary art, there are expositions of traditional Malaysian costumes and crafts. The emphasis is on the work of local artists, but there are also works by international masters. In the concert hall of the Petronas Towers, called Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, the Malaysian Symphony Orchestra plays.

The Petronas Towers hit their great view. Made in the form of two ears of corn, they at the same time correspond to all the canons of Islamic architecture: each building is an eight-pointed star - a symbol of integrity in Islam. Connecting both towers is a glass bridge called the Sky Bridge. The bridge is located at a height of 170 meters, these are 41-42 floors. An observation deck is equipped here, the view from it is truly breathtaking.

The Petronas Towers are considered the tallest twins in the world.

The Petronas Towers are considered the tallest twins in the world, but for this the architects had to work hard. Initially, the towers in Chicago were the tallest, and the Petronas architects decided to increase the height of the towers with the help of spiers, which are made as a single unit with the entire structure. The Americans were forced to give the palm to Malaysia. Among all the skyscrapers in the world, the Petronas Towers rank fourth behind the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, Taipei 101 and the Shanghai World Financial Center.

The Petronas Towers are loved not only by tourists, but also by the creators of computer games.

It is within the walls of these towers that the action takes place in games such as Hitman 2: Silent Assassin and Zero Tolerance.

Cinema has not been left out. Understudy Anastasia Zavorotnyuk in the film "The Apocalypse Code" jumps from the observation bridge, which is located between the two Petronas towers. The towers were lit up twice in the documentary "Life after people".

Features of the visit

According to rough estimates, more than three hundred people visit the Petronas Tower per day. This architectural marvel, unfortunately, cannot accommodate everyone, so tickets should be purchased in advance - best of all the day before, because otherwise a situation may arise that you stand in line for a good half of the day.

The staff serving tourists is very friendly, friendly, but at the same time unobtrusive. If you really need help, be sure - an employee of this tourist center will instantly come to your aid.

The Petronas Towers are open every day except Monday, from 9 am to 9 pm. Please note that on Friday there is a break from 13:00 to 14:30. The ticket offices of the towers open at 8:30.

A slightly different schedule for the art gallery, located on the third floor in Suria KLCC. The art gallery is waiting for its visitors on any day except Monday, of course, from 10 am to 8 pm.

How to get there

There is a regular bus from Kuala Lumpur Airport to KL Sentral. Here you can transfer to the metro and get to the KLCC station.

If you also want to see the city itself, then it is better to take the monorail. You will need to get off at the Bukit Nanas station.

Address: Kuala Lumpur City Centre.

Skyscrapers are an American invention. However, in the context of the economic boom, the construction of multi-storey buildings is growing. A huge 88-storey skyscraper with a height of 452 meters is located in the capital of Malaysia - these are the famous twin towers Petronas Towers, which for a long time were considered the largest skyscraper on our planet. Great impression produces "Petronas Twin Towers", which became " calling card» . Rising above the city, the towers symbolize the current one, striving to enter the number.

The most respectable center of Malaysia, the so-called Golden Triangle shopping center, was chosen for the construction of the skyscraper. This area is famous for skyscrapers, shopping malls, luxury hotels and chic restaurants.

The construction of "Petronas Towers" cost the main customer - the state corporation "Petronas" - 800 million dollars. Some of the costs were borne by other Malaysian firms, who shared office space between the two skyscrapers.

We put the towers in a record short term- in less than three years (they were laid down in May 1993, and officially opened on May 8, 1998). In January 2000, all office space was already occupied.

One tower was built by a consortium of Hazama and Mitsubishi, as well as the American J.A. Jones Construction. The second tower is a consortium of South Korean companies Samsung Engineering and Construction, Kok Engineering and Construction and one Malaysian company.

The grandiose construction belongs to the National Oil Corporation, part of the project to create the "City of the New Millennium" in Malaysia. It is said that its whimsical "twin" design was inspired by the Grand Arch of the Parisian La Defense. The towers resemble two rockets shot up, connected by a two-story bridge, lying 160 meters from the ground.

The walls to the very top are made of tempered durable glass and thin metal lintels. During the day, the towers sparkle in the sun like a huge diamond set in silver. At night - they soar above the city, rushing with luminous rockets into the swampy blackness of the sky. Their needle-spiers are visible for tens of kilometers outside the city limits.

Each tower rests on a multimeter-thick slab of high-strength concrete with a volume of 13,200 cubic meters and a weight of more than 32,000 tons, which, in turn, rests on 104 piles, going to a depth of 60 to 115 meters. The frame of the towers required 160 thousand cubic meters, concrete of special strength and 37 thousand tons of steel, which allows the towers to withstand tremors with a force of up to 7 points and a speed of 45 m / second, although in Malaysia to date no significant and.

Both towers are connected by a covered walkway in the form of a bridge. The building is crowned with 73.5-meter turrets. These towers were completed after it became clear that the new skyscraper was inferior to the tallest building in Chicago at that time by only 65 meters. After the towers were built on, the Petronas Towers became the tallest. Until recently, this title belonged to the Malaysian building, however, in 2004, the record was broken by the Taipei 101 skyscraper.

The area of all premises of the building is 213.75 thousand square meters (these are 48 football fields). The towers represent 452 meters of glass and steel. The towers themselves occupy 40 hectares. The Petronas Towers are offices, exhibition and conference rooms, an art gallery, a theater, a concert hall where the Malaysian symphony orchestra performs, restaurants, as well as the most important shopping center in Kuala Lumpur. In the silhouette of sharply honed towers, with all the unbridled hi-tech, hints of national architecture are felt. Inside the towers is still more dynamic. Huge atriums are completed with steel structures a la space station, glass elevators slide past glass escalators.

The upper floors of the buildings are occupied by offices. On the lower floors there is a six-story shopping center, restaurants, cinemas, a huge concert hall of the Malay Philharmonic Orchestra, galleries, museums, exhibition halls and even a science center with virtual attractions for children and adults.

But the main attraction is the skyscraper itself. At the level of the 41st floor, there is a lintel between the towers, a glass bridge. It is open to the public from 10:00 am to 12:45 pm and from 3:00 pm to 4:45 pm, admission is free. The bridge offers a great view of the entire city of Kuala Lumpur.

Reaching the clouds with your hands, feeling like a bird soaring high above a busy metropolis - all this can be done by visiting the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur. These two grandiose structures are unusually beautiful: the graceful domes of giants rest against the bright blue Malaysian sky, everything around immediately becomes small and insignificant. All this is caused by an unprecedented admiration that arises when looking at the city from the observation deck of the most beautiful twin towers.

Kuala Lumpur is a city that is known not only in Malaysia itself, but throughout the world. The name of this place for those who have not been here immediately evokes vivid associations, in which creepers hang from small houses and do not allow them to move quietly, and friendly koalas look curiously at people from the trees. However, Kuala Lumpur is far from these fantasies. In reality, this is the city that is known for its beautiful and modern skyscrapers. The most famous and highest among them are the Petronas Towers.

Malaysia hides - read more in our article.

Once upon a time there were directors of the large state-owned oil and gas company Petronas. Everything was fine with them: they had considerable incomes, and there was a desire to develop, but they did not have an office that would meet the requirements and status of the company. Around the same time, many big cities took part in the so-called "race for skyscrapers": who will have a higher skyscraper, who will be more beautiful and practical. The leader in this competition at that time (late 90s) was the Willis Tower in Chicago.

Without thinking twice, Petronas performed the move that won the championship from the United States: built twin towers! Yes, such that they are both tall and appearance surpassed all their predecessors. Without thinking twice, the name of the skyscrapers was given in honor of the company - the creator: it sounds beautiful, and good PR.

Architecture

In Malaysia, the predominant religion is Islam. The architects came up with an interesting move in order not to deviate far from their traditions, even when building such a significant structure, which was destined to become the decoration of the whole city. An eight-pointed star (the symbol of Islam) was taken as the basis for the building plan, and the domes that crown the skyscrapers resemble mosques in their outlines. This pleased the authorities of the city, and played only in favor of the giant twins. To date, these are the most urban skyscrapers in the Muslim style.

Construction

The Malaysian Twin Towers are skyscrapers with the deepest concrete foundation in the world! 100 meters, such is the depth, the creation of which took a little more than three years. Throughout this time, every day for every 90 seconds, special trucks alternately poured the foundation of the towers, which consisted of especially high-strength and elastic concrete. This helped prevent subsidence and made skyscrapers completely protected from hurricanes, which sometimes do not bypass Malaysia.

Another interesting thing is the construction of a glass bridge that connects the towers to each other at a height of 41-42 floors. This bridge is not only practical, but also symbolic. On the one hand, thanks to him, people can freely move between skyscrapers. On the other hand, it is a symbol of unification and closeness to heaven; it is not for nothing that the bridge has its own name - Skybridge. It was designed in South Korea, after which he, as part of 500 separate units, was delivered to Kuala Lumpur. Here it was again assembled in its original form and taken upstairs, where it was installed at a great height for 3 days.

On Russian cinema screens, the twin towers appeared in the film "Code of the Apocalypse". According to the script, the heroine Anastasia Zavorotnyuk jumped with one of the towers with a parachute. The stunt was performed by the actress' understudy. The bad luck was that during the jump, a power line was touched and disrupted, because of which the whole block was left without electricity for some time.

Even earlier, skyscrapers appeared in the film "The Trap", the main characters of which famously flew from one building to another on a kind of "ropes".

In 1997, the famous French climber "Spiderman" tried to conquer one of the towers by climbing it. However, he only managed to get to the 60th floor, where he was arrested by the police. An unpleasant incident did not stop the daredevil, and after 10 years he tried to repeat his ascent, choosing the second tower. However, ironically, the police overtook him, and again on the same floor.

The gaming industry also could not ignore the famous skyscrapers: the Petronas Towers appear in three levels of the popular computer game Hitman 2: The Silent Assassin.

Petronas Towers in numbers

451.9 m - this is the height of each of the Petronas buildings.

88 floors - this is the height of the first and second towers.

The 6th place in the world is occupied by the twin towers among the most tall buildings peace.

There are 16,000 windows in these towers.

10,000 people constantly wash and clean the windows of the towers.

30 days - this is how long it takes to completely clean all the windows of the twin towers.

$800 million was spent on the construction of the Petronas Towers.

2-storey elevators serve these buildings. One floor of the elevator stops at an even floor, while the second one stops at an odd one, respectively.

3,000 m2 - so much concrete was needed to create a high-strength foundation for skyscrapers

213,750 m2, or 48 hectares - this is the total area of the entire territory of the twin towers. To make it clearer: this figure is equal in number to 48 football fields.

650,000 people visit various shops every week, which are located in the shopping center of one of the skyscrapers.

Nearly 5,500 vehicles can be accommodated in the underground car park below the towers.

Despite the fact that the Petronas Towers lost ground in the fight for the most high skyscrapers world, their beauty and grandeur continue to conquer both designers and ordinary tourists from all over the world. An amazing combination of Muslim traditions and the most reliable construction technologies made the twin skyscrapers a miracle of modern architecture.

One of the symbols of Kuala Lumpur is the Petronas Towers, which are located in the heart of the Malaysian capital. They were built in 1998 and are recognized as the center of the "Golden Triangle" - the area where the best restaurants, luxury hotels and modern shopping centers are located.

The height of the twin towers is 451.9 m. Today, Petronas is ranked 16th in terms of the height of buildings in the world (information for 2018). The author of the project was the architect Cesar Pelli, who took part in an international competition in 1991. Construction began in 1992 and lasted 6 years. In 1998, the towers received the most prestigious Muslim architecture award, the Aga Khan.

Infrastructure and entertainment

The Petronas Towers are connected to each other by the Sky Bridge, which is located at a height of 170 m between the 41st and 42nd floors, it is the highest air bridge in the world. Not having a rigid fixation, the design allows you to move freely between the two giants, thereby maintaining the integrity of the bridge in strong storm winds. The bridge is open to anyone who wishes to receive unforgettable impression from panoramic views of the city, however the number of tickets is limited.

View of Kuala Lumpur from Sky Bridge

The real pride of the towers is the PETRONAS Philharmonic Concert Hall, which is considered the best in the world for classical music concerts. Within its walls, Jean-Yves Thibodet, Roberto Gonzalez-Monyas, Stephen Hough and other famous musicians from all over the world give concerts.

The ultra-fashionable Suria KLCC shopping complex is located on the lower floors. It occupies 6 floors of the building and accommodates fashionable and expensive shops, cinemas, an art gallery, restaurants, a concert hall, an underwater aquarium and a science museum.

Next to the skyscrapers, there is a magnificent park with an area of 20 hectares. The main feature of the landscape creation is the dancing fountains. The park is equipped with jogging and walking paths, there is also a children's playground. Cozy and quiet park beautiful place recreation for tourists and local residents.

And 10 km from the center is located, in which more than 5,000 animals live from butterflies to elephants. Entrance to the zoo is paid. The cost depends on which parks you plan to visit.
