At the heart of eco-tourism is concern for the environment. That is why the trip to the village of Zakan is designed for a limited number of people.

You can only get to Zakan by off-road vehicles, because from the village of Kurdzhinovo (Psemen) only a mountain dirt road 50 kilometers long leads here. While driving along this road, you will experience the excitement and thrills of a real jeep. And we communicate with the outside world using a satellite phone. In the village of Kurdzhinovo or in Stavropol, you can leave your car in a guarded parking lot, and then we will get on off-road vehicles.

The fact that we were going to Zakan was reported by my husband 10 days in advance. I didn’t really understand what it was, like a camp site somewhere in the mountains. We always rest with the whole family, the places are chosen by the spouse, and I completely trust him. Moreover, these are always cultivated and ennobled places, at least the Turkish coast or a sanatorium from the category of decent ones in the CMS. When it turned out that we were driving an SUV, because our passenger car “won’t pass” there, she tensed up a little. And, as it turned out later, not in vain.

We loaded into Padzherik early in the morning. We took food with us, as if for a month, although we traveled only for three days. All sorts of fishing rods and other male rubbish were taken over by the missus. My function was to gather our children and stuff as many things as possible into three large sports bags. Spring is not so warm this year.

After we crossed the border with the KChR, we drove for several more kilometers along a picturesque asphalt road. And then turned into mountain gorge where the road ended. And the mountain dirt road along the river began.

The Padzherik was shaking and telephoning so that I was soon a little nauseous. It was not a road, but a track for extreme sportsmen. Huge pits, as if stone boulders had just rolled down from the steep. In some places, the abyss on one side of the car reached several tens of meters deep. In others, a mountain river was seething in streams almost directly under the wheels. I looked at my husband as the last traitor and thought, how could he do this to us?

When we got to the village of Zakan, we could not even believe that we would survive. Here, as if nothing had happened, the sun shone and smelled of horse manure. The toilet was like in the grandmother's village, but with a seat, armrests and a window overlooking the river. We jokingly called it "throne". There is nowhere to wash, in the summer shower the water did not warm up much, and in order to melt the bath, you have to wait an hour and a half.

We were settled in a wooden house, which turned out to be very comfortable inside. I began to unpack, and my husband went to negotiate with the local caretaker. Having decided not to talk to him until the evening, as a punishment, she went to look for lost children somewhere. I found them almost in an embrace with a horse, which they, pushing, stroked and pulled by a long mane. I must say right away that my daughter, who is 7 years old, practically did not leave this little animal for all three days and fed him the entire supply of bread and fruit. Previously, she had seen horses exclusively on TV, but here such a benevolent specimen.

Another 20-30 minutes passed, we walked around a large clearing on the bank of a noisy river, surrounded high mountains. I stopped smelling poop, on the contrary, I suddenly felt how clean the air is here. There were no cars or strangers around ... How good! And when the father of the family joined us, I already forgot about my decision to boycott him.

On the first evening, the program was so rich that we fell asleep at about 11 o'clock, and without hind legs. We managed to: jump on the stones in the river, getting our feet wet, get burned about 15 times on giant nettles, wash and steam in the bath, sip with wild squeals in a pool of ice water, fry a barbecue, eat meat, play hide and seek in pitch darkness.

And the morning started with real fairy tale. There was a cup of wild strawberries on the table near our house. A perfect addition to this surprise was fresh milk from a cow from the village of Zakan. No super-hotel will give you this: the feeling of being in childhood during a vacation with your grandmother. We were 30 km from Krasnaya Polyana, which surprised us. Yes, besides the wooden toilet in the village where my parents sent me, there were many pleasant moments. For example, I clearly remember the same taste and aroma of tender berries.

The following days were very similar to the first, with some variations. My men, consisting of a spouse and two sons aged 11 and 14, fished with an air of importance. The trophies obtained by them were solemnly cleaned, fried and devoured. Then we made a sortie to the observation glade, from where you can see the gorge where the campsite is located. On the way we saw a huge Zakanskaya Spruce, stared with observation deck to main Caucasian Range, peak Stavropol, the top of the mountains Sofia and Elbrus.
Unexpectedly for us, a company of young people, paragliders, arrived. At first we admired them, soaring in the sky, and then the children tested my nerves for strength with whining like “we also want to fly.” On the third day, we were going to go to the Zakansky saddle or the Imereti waterfalls, but it became clear that the youngest members of our team might not make it.

In the meantime, we sunbathed, got wet in a short downpour, played volleyball and chase, ate raspberry jam from a can, fought with pillows, rolled on the grass, spit at a distance ... and fed newborn lamb. And so on and so forth. My sweetheart and I even remembered romantic times and, having kissed in the light of the moon, we searched for a long time where we could retire away from children.
It was really cool at night, but warm clothes were almost not useful. A stove was heated in the house, and on the street a fire saved us.
For those who are accustomed to pigging recklessly, I warn you, Zakan will not allow you to do this. There is not a speck around, and all the collected garbage is taken out of the territory. Even light bulbs are powered by solar panels, the environment is above all, in short.

The return trip no longer seemed scary to anyone, we often stopped and took pictures. We drove back happy and satisfied, sharing our impressions, shouting over each other. Only the youngest was a little upset by the separation from her new tailed and neighing friend.

Next spring, we plan to repeat the trip to Zakan, now for more long term. The program includes a visit to the Caucasian State Natural Biosphere Reserve, located nearby. We will also make a trip to the Imereti waterfalls and Kislye springs. We will leave our youngest at home, and the boys, I think, will master it.

So guys, Zakan is awesome! I recommend to everyone!
