Charles de Gaulle airport: how to get to the airport, official website, phones, flights, taxi to the airport, services and services of Paris airport.

Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport - main airport in France, and in terms of passenger traffic is one of the ten largest airports in the world. It got its name in honor of Charles de Gaulle, the general and president of France. It is the main hub of the national airline Air France, an important hub for the American airline Delta Air Lines, and the operating base for low-cost airlines Easyjet and Wueling.

The design of Charles de Gaulle Airport is very unusual. Its futuristic look, sloping glass galleries through which passengers move from level to level, often inspire musicians and directors.

Scenes were filmed at Charles de Gaulle Airport for the films Pirx's Inquest, The Crew, and many others.

The huge airport serves about 150 thousand passengers daily. Many travelers note that it is possible to get lost here - out of habit, you will not immediately understand all the numerous terminals. That is why experienced tourists beginners are advised to study information about the airport in advance so as not to waste time.

Airport history

In the early 60s of the twentieth century. for the two Paris airfields of Orly and Le Bourget, the prospect of a transport collapse began to emerge more and more clearly. According to calculations, every 5 years there was a doubling of passenger traffic, and the existing air terminals could not cope with such a number of people. In order to prevent the impending crisis in the summer of 1964, it was decided to build a new airfield "Paris Nord".

A place was determined for him in the Roissy-en-Frans region, away from settlements where there was enough free land. It was only necessary to buy it from the owners of several farms. However, the decision to build the airport was perceived by the public ambiguously and persistent debate about its feasibility continued until 1972. The problem was finally resolved after the payment of appropriate compensation to the parties affected during the construction of the airport.

Opening of new main air gate Paris and all of France took place in the presence of the country's Prime Minister P. Messmer in 1974.

Over the course of its forty-year history, the infrastructure of Charles de Gaulle Airport has undergone many changes, but continues to improve today in the spirit of the times. Only one thing remains unchanged - the successful combination of economic efficiency with maximum comfort for passengers.

Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. Official site:

Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport is not only a “window to Paris” for most Russians, but also the largest international hub of Air France and Delta: with a transfer in Paris, many long-haul (especially transcontinental) destinations are much more affordable in an economic sense than direct flights from our country, while the transfer from Aeroflot and Rossiya flights was very successfully implemented. If you fly from Moscow or St. Petersburg early in the morning, you will have time for almost all other flights to America, Asia, and Africa.

Transfer from 2C for bus transfer within the clear zone

However, the airport has its own specifics, which is better to know in advance.

Charles de Gaulle has 3 terminals; the oldest, the first, serves the "hodgepodge" of different airlines focused on O&D traffic to Paris from different countries world, as a rule, in 1-2 directions, as well as charter and seasonal flights. Terminal 3 concentrates small low-cost airlines and charters; as for flights to / from Russia, as well as subsequent connections - here the main one is the largest terminal 2, which we will dwell on in more detail.

Bus route for transfer passengers in CDG

In fact, Terminal 2 is not one, but 7 terminals at once, marked with the letters 2A-2G, which are interconnected, but not for all. That is, you can move freely between check-in areas in different terminals, they are located in two chains and the transition between neighboring ones takes about 5 minutes (except for terminal 2G, which can only be reached by bus). But during transfers, you can get from one part to another exclusively by shuttle bus, which travels in a circle around all parts of the terminal. Here it is important not to confuse not only the bus route (and for some combinations you will need to change from one to another), but also the stop at which to get off: if everything is more or less clear with the “Russian” part (2C), then in 2E, where Delta and Air France are just located, it is also important to know your boarding gate number, because they are located in different satellites, marked with the letters K, L and M. Inside, of course, in the future you can go from one part to another, but the path will not be close, but you can ride on an automatic train connecting these three satellites to each other. It is similar to the "horizontal elevators" in the St. Petersburg metro: the tracks are separated from the platform by sliding doors, which open when the train arrives.

Automatic train station CDGVAL

Very important: when transferring to CDG, it often happens that boarding passes for the next segment are issued to you not at the airport of departure, but, in fact, at the CDG itself at the transfer desk. And then the availability of boarding passes may not be checked at security control (and when transferring, it will definitely be right after arrival, and the queues there are often very long!), As a result, it may turn out that you find yourself at the gate without boarding pass and you won’t fly away anywhere (I had to see such situations with my own eyes). At the same time, you may not have enough time to return and fix everything, because, we repeat, the transitions are long, and there are a lot of people everywhere: the second largest airport in Europe in terms of passenger traffic, after all! At the same time, there are no Priority lines for you at the screening and passport control (they are only in 2E), stand with everyone.

All this is exacerbated by the predominance of people with African roots among the staff, whose English language sometimes it is not easy to understand (and some even speak only French!). So it is better to organize an independent docking through the Paris Charles de Gaulle airport with a large margin of time (due to its size, taxiing from the runway to the parking lot after landing can easily take about twenty minutes). Also, remember that visa-free transit through CDG without a Schengen visa is only possible within 24 hours, and you cannot, of course, go outside the "clean zone".

Terminal 2E, satellite M.

Terminals 1,2 and 3 are interconnected by another line of automatic trains (the same as between parts of terminal 2). They also make a stop at hotels located on the territory of the airport and long-term parking lots (there are also pick-up / return points for rental cars). If you don’t rent a car, then the easiest and fastest way to get to Paris is by city train RER (line B), the stations of which are located in terminals 2 and 3. The interval between trains is 7-8 minutes, a one-way ticket costs 10 euros, drive to the center takes about 40 minutes. At the same time, the ticket to the airport is not compatible with regular tickets for public transport in Paris, that is, when transferring from the metro, etc. at one of the stations in the center you will need to buy another ticket.

Tickets for the RER can be bought from machines on the platform, but these machines only accept euro coins and not banknotes. There are change machines from banknotes to coins, but they do not work very often, because. coins are running out. Fortunately, the ticket can be paid bank card, But russian maps only those with a chip are accepted. Alternatively, you can buy a ticket at the box office, however, the box office is not open around the clock, and there are often long queues.

For the same 11 euros, you can go from any terminal to the center (to the Opera Garnier) by Roissybus express bus (an interval of 15-20 minutes), but this is much longer: due to traffic jams, it can take an hour and a half. If 10 euros is too expensive for you, then buses 350 (from East Station) and 351 (from Nation) are suitable as an alternative - here you will need to spend three coupons of 1.70 euros each (total 5.10).

Tickets are sold at vending machines, as well as at newsstands, but the easiest (however slightly more expensive) is to buy them directly from the driver for 6 euros. There are also night buses N140 and N143 connecting East Station with Terminal 3.

There are also special shuttle buses to Disneyland, buses for easyJet passengers (minibuses) and Air France (including the second largest airport Paris - Orly). Taxis cost approximately 60 euros to the city centre. There is also a station in terminal 2 high-speed trains TGV, on which you can go to the main major cities of France, as well as to Brussels.

As for food, everything is organized according to the principle "Expensive and tasteless"; even in business halls, there is nothing really to eat except for nuts and cheese. The exception is the Air France lounges in Terminal 2E, which offer a wide range of restaurant-level meals, as well as an excellent selection of drinks, including alcoholic ones.

Of course, 18-year-old Macallan is not poured there, but, nevertheless, you will not stay hungry and sober. For those who cannot access business lounges, there is an opportunity to eat and drink coffee at Starbucks (2A, 2B, 2C, 2D) relatively inexpensively, otherwise the airport is characterized by fast food at inflated prices; at the same time, there are more catering establishments in the public area than in the clean area.

As for shopping, here (shops are concentrated in a clean area) there are also mainly luxury brands at inflated prices; that is, you can go to buy something from Hermes or Louis Vuitton only if you are flying in transit (otherwise everything is cheaper in Paris itself) and at the same time you need this or that thing right away (otherwise it is also cheaper at the destination, except for cases if this item is Moscow). Interestingly enough expensive shops Duty Free (from local products there is cheese, wine and cider) - in fact, not tax-free, but Travel Value, that is, from purchases made in many of them, you can and should go and issue a refund Tax Free. By the way, about Tax Free: in France, Tax Free is now issued in the form of PABLO electronic receipts, and in order to return them, you do not need to put a stamp at customs, but you just need to scan the barcode from them at the terminal. In terminal 2C, from which you will most likely fly to Russia, the terminals are located in the arrivals area at the 12th exit. It is important not to forget to then put the checks in an envelope and put them in a box near the terminal.

CDG has both free (with registration and SMS authorization) and paid Wi-Fi starting from 9.90 euros per day (there is also an option with payment for 20 and 60 minutes in case you will be at the airport for only a short time ). Power sockets in public areas are tight, but they can be found, in particular, in work areas with tables (in the clean area of terminals 2D, 2E, 2F, 2G), near Sony Playstation gaming areas and in music listening rooms where you can come with with your player. In addition, all terminals are full of lockers for charging. mobile phones: lock your gadget in a cell and then come to pick it up. True, lockers are not suitable for modern smartphones because they give out a small charging current, unable to significantly increase the charge of a large-capacity battery in a short time.

How many airports does Paris serve? There are three of them: Beauvais, Orly and Charles de Gaulle Airport.

The main airport in France is named Charles de Gaulle in honor of the legendary general and president and is one of the ten largest hubs in the world. Previously it was called Roissy, at the location: B.P.20101, 95711 Roissy Charles de Gaulle, this place is 25 kilometers from the French capital. The capacity of the Paris airport exceeds 150 thousand people a day, more than 1.5 thousand flights are poisoned.
