Story

The history of the modern airport begins with the appearance of a hydroport in Khabarovsk in 1929. Two years later, the hydroport could not cope with the volume of work, and it was decided to build new airport with a land airport. It was opened in 1938.

In 1953, the first artificial turf runway appeared here.

The airport complex began its activity in 1954. At that time, he was able to serve up to 400 passengers per hour. However, already 10 years later, a new terminal appeared here with a capacity of almost twice as much - 700 passengers per hour.

In 1970, the airport was given international status. First charter international flight connected Khabarovsk with Japanese city Osaka. The first regular flight to Niigata (Japan) was made only in 1978.

The second runway was built in 1980.

In 1990, the Khabarovsk airport set a record for passenger traffic, which has not been able to break so far - 3.6 million passengers.

The construction of the international terminal ended in 1993.

Since then, the airport management has been regularly reconstructing the air terminal complex, modernizing the technical equipment and expanding route network aviation center.

As part of the federal program Great Names of Russia, in 2019 the airport began to be named after Admiral Gennady Nevelsky.
