History of the Tuzla Spit
Previously, the Tuzla Spit was an island. To be precise, 100 years ago it was oblique, about 11 kilometers long. But local fishermen in 1925 dug a small channel at its base to shorten their path. Once, after a storm, a small passage turned into a wide strait, and the spit became the island of Tuzla.
The island existed until 2003. In 2003, the Tuzla Spit was restored. Its length is now about 4 kilometers, and the width is gradually increasing due to sand and shells brought by the sea. Now this place has become calling card Taman Peninsula.

How to get to the Tuzla Spit
First you need to get to the village of Taman. Then you cross Taman and after a few kilometers, turn right at the Y-shaped fork, there should be a sign to the spit.

The Tuzla Spit itself is made artificially. It acts as a narrow long strip directly into the sea. Its length is about 4 kilometers. They say that the fish on the Tuzla Spit are visible and invisible. I didn’t fish myself, but there are a lot of fishermen on the spit, both from one side and the other.
Fans of spearfishing and diving are also enough on the spit. Dolphins often come here, stingrays are found, or as they are also called sea cats, you can find shells - rapana, gobies, mullet, pelengas and flounder. I am telling from the words of a local fisherman with whom we talked.
Opposite the Tuzla Spit, Ukraine is the Kerch Strait, after all. Mobile phones immediately start working in roaming mode and receive SMS, where you are congratulated on the fact that you have come to Ukraine. 
Entry into the sea on most of the spit is not very good. Most of the stones near the shore are large and quite sharp. Putting up a tent is also problematic. Near the coast there is a very narrow strip of land. And stopping right on the road is both inconvenient and unsafe.
But if you drive almost to the very end of the tuzla spit, there will be an already equipped beach. Here the entry into the sea is normal and there is a place for tents. But if a strong wind blows, staying on the spit is not very pleasant. We did not risk it and left for the Taman Peninsula. We stopped in a wonderful place, a small lagoon, where there was almost no wind, and the sea and nature were amazing.

The spit has its own small volcano with a name corresponding to Chushka - Blevaka. locals gave it such a sonorous name because of the peculiarity of its mud eruptions, which are fully characterized by this name.
There are four separate islands off the coast - Krupinino, Dzendzik, Lisiy and Golenky. On the first two, you can land by sailing on a boat. Krupinino and Dzendzik are quite popular holiday destinations for both local youth and vacationers.

At the beginning of the peninsular spit lies the village of Ilyich. This is a fairly popular place for lovers of rural silence and fresh homemade products. Here you will not find noisy discos and bars that prevent you from sleeping all night.
The village is immersed in greenery, roosters sing in the mornings and it smells deliciously of homemade cakes from neighboring windows. The best thing is to take a break from the busy city rhythm.
The port of Kavkaz is located 12 kilometers from Ilyich, which is far enough so that the port mud does not swim to the local beaches.
The village is geared towards tourists. Therefore, despite the rustic surroundings, here you will find all the necessary amenities. This is a bank branch, several ATMs, shops, a market. It has its own clinic and pharmacy. For walking and relaxing, there is a small park and several cafes where you can not only eat sweets, but also have a hearty lunch or dinner. The menu in such cafes is designed for vacationers, which means that, despite the lack of a chic environment and moderate prices, the choice of dishes is quite large and the food is fresh.
You can book a room in any of the local mini-hotels via the Internet, all means of communication in the village are available. Ilyich has a good choice of accommodation for tourists. You can choose rooms near the sea, but this, of course, will cost more than a similar room 500 meters from the coast. Most of the housing options offered have air conditioning and bathrooms.
The beaches in the village are striking in their diversity. You can choose pebble or sandy beach, with or without trees. A convenient entrance to the sea is suitable even for small children: there are no cliffs and holes, and the bottom itself is smooth and sandy.
Utilities in Ilyich do not neglect their duties: along the entire line of the beach, as well as in the village itself, there are garbage cans that are cleaned by public utilities on a regular basis. And in general, this place is quite clean even in the hot season.
One road and many footpaths lead to the beach. One path stretches along the entire coast and replaces the promenade.

Like the rest of the shoals, the longest of them is the result of the activity of tides, storms and strong winds, as well as the rampage of local mud volcanoes. Until a certain time geographical feature acted as an elongated peninsula, as it did not lose contact with the continent. And at the end of the last century, this corner became the subject of border claims of Russia and Ukraine.
A conversation about the Tuzla Spit should begin with an excursion into antiquity. During the existence of the Bosporan Kingdom and the Byzantine Empire, this place was not without reason called Akme (in Greek - “point”). Later, when nomads appeared here, the location received a different name, because in all Turkic languages “ace” means “flat”. The fact is that from the early medieval intervals, the ledge was an absolutely flat surface, consisting of sand and silt sediments. All this attracted fishermen to him, who set up their camps on the banks of the spit. Boats and nets were dried here, fishermen themselves warmed themselves in front of the fires. Seagulls and cormorants lived in large numbers.
Tuzla gradually separated from the Taman Peninsula during the tornadoes of 1920. It was not possible to restore the connection - nature has always opposed this. Since then, this isolated corner of the Russian Black Sea region has taken on a life of its own. Hundreds of varieties of flora and fauna have been preserved on the landscape, which have already disappeared in other areas of the planet.
Rest on the Tuzla Spit
The shoal consists of fabulously colored sandy beaches. They can be called the main place for excursions starting south of Cozy. Today, only areas south of Tuzla are available for swimming - as sandy beaches, and comfortable rocky slopes of artificial embankments. This refers to the coastal edge not far from the remains of the indicated state farm base. By the way, the finished sections of the bridge are clearly visible from here. The Tuzla Spit itself is a strategic - that is, well-protected - site throughout its entire length.
However, you can view this miracle of nature from the sea - simply by paying money to the boatman. If you are planning something like a picnic here, then you need to buy food and drink already in Taman. For many kilometers there is nothing around - except for vineyards and trailers for builders invited here from all over the world.

The best route here is a small road starting at the end of Karl Marx Street. Minibuses and buses do not go here. The path from the last village farm to the water is 7 km. He goes through the vineyards. On the map, the path looks like this:
