Many historical monuments, unfortunately, have not survived to this day, but those that have remained admire their architecture and can tell a lot about this city.

The sights of Mogilev and the Mogilev region will be of interest to connoisseurs of history and Orthodox churches.

What to see in Mogilev?

Mogilev is not the best Big City with a population of over 300 thousand people. However, it has a long history, thanks to which you can find a lot of interesting monuments architecture and culture.

The theater was completed in 1888. The building is built entirely of red brick in the Byzantine style. This building is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful in the city, and even a photo with a description cannot convey all its splendor. The theater hall can simultaneously accommodate up to 500 spectators. Premieres and performances are staged here today. At the entrance to the theater you can see an unusual sculpture. The bronze lady with the dog has already become calling card theater, for many it is associated with the Chekhov heroine, but according to the sculptor, to create a masterpiece, he was inspired by the image of Natalia Goncharova.

Among the most famous sights on the map of Mogilev is the Cathedral of the Three Hierarchs. It bears its name in honor of Gregory the Theologian, Basil the Great and John Chrysostom. The shape of the temple is surprising, it is made in the form of a huge cross and has 3 entrances from different sides. The church is active. Parishioners can see here a number of unique icons that have protected the city for many centuries. The temple was one of favorite places visiting Nicholas II, who visited him during the First World War.

In 1961, the church was closed, the domes and the bell tower were demolished, and a factory club was set up in the building. Under the arches of the church, dance evenings and film screenings were held. And only after 3 decades, thanks to the efforts of Archbishop Maxim, the church was returned to believers. The temple was restored, icons and shrines returned here. In 1989, the church was re-lit and began to receive parishioners.

Among interesting places in Mogilev, which must be visited, one can single out the Church of St. Stanislaus. The baroque temple dates back to the 18th century. There is a unique collection of medieval frescoes, which have no analogues in the world. The history of the construction of the church is covered with secrets and inaccuracies. Some read that the temple was founded on the site of the murder of a local tyrant - an aristocrat who robbed the inhabitants and staged regular brawls.

The inhabitants of the city, tired of his attacks, killed the villain, and the king of Poland, angry, ordered the townspeople to build a temple on the site of the death of the nobleman. At the same time, the ruler ordered the use of bricks from the houses and stoves of the inhabitants for construction. Historians cannot confirm this legend, but the fact remains that bricks of various sizes were found in the foundation of the temple, and some of them were burned.

The shrine is on the list world heritage. The monastery is active. At the entrance to the monastery, the attention is drawn to the high stone fence and the faces of the saints that adorn the walls. When going on a tour, take care of the right clothes. Women in trousers and without a scarf are not allowed here, and men in a headdress. If you still didn’t have time to change clothes, you can take the necessary clothes for free at the entrance to the shrine.

On the territory there are St. Nicholas Cathedral, the Temple of Onuphrius the Great, a chapel, a bell tower and a housing for nuns. A special attraction here is the four-tiered iconostasis, which was created in the 17th century using a unique wood-carving technology. The iconostasis has been restored and is now presented in its original form. Surprisingly, the temple has the face of Nicholas II, who was canonized by the church in 2000.

There are holy burials in the courtyard. It was here that Archbishop Maxim and Abbess Evgenia were buried, thanks to whom the shrine was restored and returned to believers. Today, the church has a Sunday children's school and a youth choir.

Having been in Mogilev, you must definitely see the Palace of George Konissky. The glorious Archbishop G. Konissky lived and worked here, who gave 40 years of his life to the Belarusian people and the Orthodox Church. The building, unfortunately, has only partially survived to this day, but this part is worthy of admiration.

During the years of the revolution, this unique house was inhabited by the working class. Much was looted and destroyed. Later, the building was returned to the church, and today there is a library and a museum. The archives of the library contain unique documents and photographs of the Romanov family.

"Star" sights of Mogilev

Mogilev can rightly be called a "star" city. Where else in Belarus is the Square of Stars? The sundial in Mogilev is the world's only monument to the Astrologer. While walking around the city, do not miss the opportunity to admire this rare landmark. A wise old man sits in front of a telescope (this is a kind of index of those same sundial) on a huge chair and points his finger at the sky. And the evening begins real fairy tale. Think spotlights just illuminate the sculpture? Uh, no... It's a beacon for real aliens. They say that at night the telescope can be seen even from space.

apogei-tour.ru

There are several legends around the sculptural composition. And if you touch the astrologer's finger, good luck in all your affairs is guaranteed. Although getting to the "happy" finger is problematic - the height of the sculpture is about four meters.

Complementing the composition are twelve chairs, according to the number of signs of the zodiac. Who you are? Pisces, Cancer or Gemini? Be sure to find your own chair.

On the Square of Stars, the names of honored people of the city of Mogilev are imprinted in stone. Doesn't this remind you of anything? We are sure that your children will get a lot of impressions after a tour of this unique place.

Secrets and mysteries of the Church of St. Stanislaus

Do not rush to get into the car. Not far from the Square of Stars is the Church of St. Stanislaus. This Historical building The XVIII century is known for its unique frescoes, which are of national artistic value. Are your children still poorly versed in art? You have to start somewhere.

bus.altustour.by

The legend of the church is no less unique than the frescoes. Rumor passes it on from generation to generation. One of the local gentry brutally mocked the inhabitants of the city. People could not stand it and killed the malicious rich man near a small chapel. The Polish king, in retaliation for the massacre of the gentry, ordered the construction of a Carmelite church at the site of the murder. And as building materials, the townspeople had to use stones from their own homes. Whether this is true or not is hard to say. However, the researchers claim that the foundation of the building really contains bricks of various sizes, and some resemble stoves.

The history of the church of St. Stanislaus is ornate, covered with secrets and mysteries. If your children have not grown up to such details, just let them touch the beautiful, get aesthetic pleasure.

City Hall: living history

Studying the history of the city does not seem to you an exciting and interesting activity? If you do it in a stuffy hall of the library, you agree. But you can go another, more efficient and rational way - to contemplate the works of architecture, which keep the secrets of the past, with your own eyes.

mogilev.gov.by

The city hall is worthy of your attention. In this two-storey building, one can trace the main stages of the development of the city of Mogilev starting from the tenth century. In the building of the town hall there is a museum of local lore with unique exhibits. Porcelain chess pieces, valuable historical books and much more. There is a summer Observation deck with a view of the Dnieper.

If your family is traveling, a memorable photo from this angle is a must. We strongly recommend a tour of the town hall tower itself. Kids will love the mechanical trumpeter. Have you seen how the huge mechanism of the clock tower works? A great opportunity to feel like one of the Fixies.

Paris in Mogilev

The triumphal arch in adults is traditionally associated with Paris. For residents of Mogilev, this attraction is associated with their hometown.

www.alladols.ru

The arch has its own very solemn history. It was built for the arrival of Empress Catherine II, who loved to visit Mogilev. Walking in her footsteps is problematic - the arch was turned into a board of honor, and over time, a memorial plaque was installed in the span. But the very fact that this architectural structure touched by the hand of the empress, makes this place worthy of respect, despite the fact that under the Soviet regime the grandeur of this attraction was corrected. But this is also history.

Do not be too lazy to show the triumphal arch to your children. Beautiful story, no less beautiful arch.
