There are only a few days left before the start of winter and it's time to think about which ski resort to choose for your holiday this year. To do this, it is not necessary to obtain a visa and fly abroad: there is good skating in Russia. We have selected 11 great resorts, which are no worse than the Alps in quality and more pleasant in price.

Caucasus

Arkhyz

Winner in the nomination "The Best Young Ski Resort in Russia" of the "Leaders of the Sports Industry" award in 2016. Skiers and snowboarders love Arkhyz: in more than three years, more than 500 thousand people have visited here, and the glory of the “Russian Alps” has been entrenched in the resort.

And this love is understandable: here you will find stunning landscapes, an excellent climate for skiing and a snowy sunny winter. "Arkhyz" is located at an altitude of 1400 to 3300 meters above sea level, the highest points are the mountains Pshish and Sofia. On the territory you will find beautiful untouched nature, beautiful glaciers and mountain lakes.

There are 8 slopes in the resort so far, difficulty levels from green to black. It is worth noting that the resort is constantly developing and growing, so if you are not ready to go to the Russian Alps this year, still add Arkhyz to your plans for the future.

The downside of Arkhyz is that there are still few hotels in the resort, and rooms are sold out very quickly. If the prices for the remaining rooms scare you, you can always rent a room from local residents or stay to live in the village of Arkhyz (minibuses run from it to the resort).

"Dombay"

Dombay is one of the most popular ski centers in the Caucasus. The resort is in a very beautiful place: in the reserve near the confluence of several rivers. The beauty here is still wild, the development of the resort has been taken up quite recently, but at a good pace: for last years comfortable hotels appeared on Dombai, a new line of lifts opened, the resort owners purchased modern equipment and hired a team of good instructors. So a few more years - and no Alps will be needed. In addition, the prices for skiing here are pleasing.

Dombay will appeal to both beginners and pros. The main slope is Moussa-Achitara, you can go down from it on a dozen different tracks with a total length of 20 km. The ski area is located at an altitude of 1630 to 3012 meters. A lot of gentle slopes for those who are not too sure of themselves yet, side by side with steep red runs. For experienced professionals, there are six routes on the "wild tracks", where you and your instructor will be delivered by helicopter, and after the descent they will be picked up. Pleasure is not cheap, but worth it.

Elbrus

This is one of the largest and most popular ski resorts in Russia. At the same time, there are not only high-quality tracks, but also very reasonable prices, especially compared to Europe. In the Elbrus region people go to get up on skis and boards or hone their skills - there is excellent skiing for everyone. IN ski resort includes two slopes - Elbrus and Cheget.

There are officially 11 tracks on Elbrus with a total length of 11 kilometers, but in reality it is one large mountain slope, which is used by skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels. Most of the trails are blue: wide and gentle, with short red sections. If you are not yet too confident in your abilities, go to the Azau glade, where an excellent green track has been prepared.

Cheget is a place for extreme sportsmen and professionals. There are 15 official slopes here, but again it's more like one slope. The long and steep track is considered one of the most difficult in the world, the descents run through a pine forest, so it is better for beginners not to meddle here. But opportunities for freeride and backcountry - the sea. On the northern slope there are Cheget hillocks - natural formations, skiing on which helps to develop balance and improve control over skis. Snowboarders are recommended to ride on the southern slope of Cheget, where the slopes are wider, but no less steep.

The resort is located in the south Kemerovo region, in the Mountain Shoria massif. This amazing place is the size of a small European country, almost the entire territory of which is covered with impenetrable taiga. Snow is guaranteed here in the season, skiing is interesting, there are trails for both beginners and professionals - virgin lands in the forest await them.

Two tracks in Sheregesh are FIS certified, they host one of the stages of the Russian Alpine Skiing Championship. In total, the resort has six ski areas, in which there are 15 pistes with a total length of about 36 kilometers. The elevation changes here are from 640 meters on gentle long slopes to 1270 meters on the slopes for extreme sportsmen.

Sheregesh stands out among the ski resorts with an unusually long season - the climate allows skiing here from November to May. Moreover, thanks to the unique combination of humidity and temperature, beautiful snow falls already in November, forming a soft “powder” that freeriders love so much.

This relatively young, but already quite popular ski resort is located 200 kilometers from Ufa and Chelyabinsk. Skiers and snowboarders love Zavyalikha for excellent snow, good service and reasonable prices.

The national snowboard team trains in Zavyalikha, and the Russian Cup competitions are also held here - all this testifies to the quality of the tracks. They are romantically named here, after gems: Malachite, Agate, Rhodonite, Garnet, Charoite, Dolomite, and in the future they promise to discover Aventurine.

There are ten tracks in the complex: one black, seven red, one for beginners and one for children. The longest trails start at the top of Mount Zavyalikha and go down to the foot, the height difference reaches 860 meters. The total length of the tracks is about 16.5 kilometers. This ski center is located in the south of the Northern Urals, in Perm region. Gubakha is famous for its variety of tracks: there are tracks for downhill, slalom, giant slalom and freeride. The Perm Open Alpine Skiing Championship is held in Gubakha.

The maximum height difference is 310 meters, the total length of the tracks is more than 20 kilometers. Trails of different difficulty levels do not intersect, so skiing is quite safe. Most of the trails at the top converge to one point, so you can change the route at any time before starting the descent. Beginners will not be afraid, for them there are quite a lot of long and gentle sections and there is a convenient training track.

The tracks are not fenced with nets, and the administration of the complex has nothing against freeriders - they even have a separate, longest track - almost 2 km of pure pleasure.

Russian biathlon teams and skiing, and also hold the stages of the Cup of Russia. The season here lasts from November to May, and there is snow in any weather: eight of the thirteen pistes have snow cannons. The slopes are mostly gentle and not too difficult: there are no black slopes, 4 red ones, the rest are suitable for those who ride not so long ago. Magnitogorsk is also closer from here - 40 kilometers. The complex itself is located on the shores of Bannoye Lake, surrounded by stunning beautiful mountains and forests.

There are fewer trails here than in Abzakovo - only 4, two red, blue and green. The length of the tracks is 2.5 kilometers, the elevation difference is 450 meters. "Adzhigardak"

In the West Southern Urals there is another ski resort, "Adzhigardak". It differs from others by its mild pleasant climate: the temperature in this area rarely drops below -15 C, while there is usually a lot of snow. So it's usually warmer here than in other resorts in the Urals.

The tracks go along the slopes of Mount Ajigarak, today there are ten of them, they are FIS certified. The tracks are mostly blue with black and red sections. For snowboarders, there is a separate area with rails and training jumps.

Since the 1980s, a children's and youth school of the Olympic reserve has been operating at the resort, and competitions and starts are held on the slopes all winter.

The resort is actively developing: modern hotels, and a couple of years ago, new lifts were launched, which opened up access to the northern slope, where four more tracks are open. This season also launched a lift to the top of the mountain, where a new large freeride area is open.

Far East

"Mountain air"

On Sakhalin is one of the most dynamically developing ski resorts in Russia - "Mountain Air". It is located right in the capital of the island, in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

By 2020, they promise a paradise for skiers and snowboarders: three new hills will be developed, as many as nine cable cars will be built, and the length of the tracks will increase to 85 kilometers. This is the future, but the present is not bad either: today in the "Mountain Air" there are 14 tracks of different difficulty levels: five black, seven red and two green. The longest track is 4.4 kilometers. The height difference is also impressive - 495 meters.

And we also have

In a broad sense, the ski resort in Sochi is called Krasnaya Polyana, although there are no ski complexes in the village of Krasnaya Polyana itself, they start from the village of Esto-Sadok, next to which Gazprom and Gornaya Karusel are located, and end with Alpika and the most extreme resort Rosa Khutor.

All in all, a lot to develop skiing has already been done for the Olympics, which is natural, but even now the complexes continue to develop rapidly and compete with each other, so every year you see something new: new cable cars are being built, new routes, hotels, all kinds of entertainment are opening.

Guns are now everywhere, because it is not always possible to count on mother nature. The official season lasts as long as possible from December to April and even May, but in fact we definitely ride in February and March.

Where to ski in Sochi

Every time we visit, we try to run through all the places to see and experience all the innovations. Actually, only 3 complexes where there are mountain slopes in Sochi are now working.

Alpika-service, the very first Krasnopolyansk resort, is now under reconstruction. There is an expansion, construction, so while everything is closed, we are waiting for something grandiose. So far, they sell Gazprom ski passes and deliver them to the Gazprom slopes with their cable car. In general, everything seems to be moving towards a merger with Rosa.

Gazprom (also called Laura after the name of the river and the ski and biathlon complex) we consider so far the best, with many European resorts he could compete, and on modern tracks, and on lifts, and on infrastructure, as always, he loses only in service. Site of the complex http://polyanaski.ru/

There is artificial lighting and snow on the slopes, so the snow is usually fine there, although the resort is located quite low.

The complex is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and until 23:00 on Friday, weekends and holidays. There are 14 cable cars: gondola, chair and tow. We didn't see any lines here.

Now there are 15 tracks of varying difficulty, but more will be opened. There are beautiful, gentle slopes for beginners, there are excellent "black" ones, but they are open only with a confident snow cover.

It is very good to study on the "green" Gazprom tracks, all our beginner friends and especially the children got up on skis there. In general, everything here is focused on family holiday: wide pistes, non-ski activities such as snow tubing, go-karting, large Entertainment Center"Galaktika" (cinema, skating rink, mini-water park, club, etc.). Prices, I note, are not low, especially for restaurants, etc.

"Mountain carousel"

The most beautiful places here, although the resort itself is not as popular and fashionable, and the infrastructure is not as rich as in Rose and Gazprom. But it is a more peaceful, democratic place. But, most likely, everything will change soon, development is proceeding at a rapid pace, because the "Mountain Carousel" is part of the grandiose Gorki-gorod project: modern hotels, shopping centers, water park, etc.

Recently, evening skating was done in Karusel, and before the tracks were open only until 17:00, there are also guns. There are not many trails yet, only 25 km from the "green" ones (the training ones are very good) to the "black ones". A very popular freeride complex, i.e. off-piste skiing, which, by the way, is prohibited. A total of 13 lifts, gondola and chairlifts.

The atmosphere here so far, I repeat, is quite democratic, you can easily find an inexpensive and tasty snack, for example, what else to look for at Gazprom and Rosa.

"Rosa Khutor"

The most fashionable resort where you can go skiing, mostly youth, quite modern and developing. True, here we also encountered rude service, but it is clear that the level is growing. "Rose", in fact, has already gone beyond the ski resort, it exists on its own, without geographic reference to any locality, and already, as it were, has become such a point, because there is absolutely all the infrastructure here, including children's and family entertainment, and you can easily spend up to a week there without leaving at all.

There are cannons, so everything is in order with the snow, there was no lighting, but they already did evening skiing. 18 lifts of all types: gondola, chairlifts, ski lifts, conveyor lifts, there are small queues on them.

The skiing area here is huge, about 30 runs from green to red and black, but some are closed. Here is the most spectacular Olympia ski lift in Polyana, passing over the abyss, and also the highest skiing point - 2320 m.

View from Olympia

Rosa infrastructure: shops, fashion boutiques, cafes, restaurants of any cuisine, hairdressers, skating rink, karaoke. Accommodation: from apartments to luxurious Radisson. Everything is expensive.

In summer, the trails are used for mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding.

How to get there

Previously, the most convenient way was "Swallow", but now their routes have been greatly curtailed, now nothing goes from the airport at all, you have to look for options.

If we go to Rosa or Gazprom, we get off at the Rosa Khutor station, i.e. final, and if in the "Karusel" - you can still get off at Esto-Sadok and get to the complex on Karuselevsky free bus.

Train timetable

As an option - a taxi, from the Address will cost 1200-1500 rubles, or buses (from the center of Sochi, Adler and the airport).

Accommodation

In general, an expensive resort is probably the most expensive in Russia, and ski resorts are traditionally even more expensive than beach resorts. Although there are not only 5-star hotels here, there are enough 2-3 * accommodations, and apartments, and even the private sector, but the prices still, let's say, do not always correspond to the quality of service.

The cheapest accommodation option is Adler private sector, but you will have to regularly go to the mountains, so this is only suitable for the option with a car.

Ski resorts are always in mountainous areas with areas equipped for skiing, snowboarding, slides and other extreme species sports. Modern Sochi ski slopes also have restaurants, mountain houses and even entire hotels on their territory.

Now skiing is popular for family trips and trips with friends, especially during the holidays and new year holidays. Sochi is a ski resort, which has long been called a people's health resort, because there are also medical sanatoriums there.

TOP skiing in Sochi

"Rosa Khutor"

The most popular Sochi ski resort. It was he who hosted the Olympics, where Russia took a lot of gold in 2014 and since then the territory has only expanded, new cable cars and tracks appear. This is the oldest and well-maintained ski run. Located in the valley of the Laura River. There are 14 cable cars and 23 ski slopes. For children there is a children's club "Morozko". The price list of hotels and restaurants, as well as a ski pass here, will not be affordable for everyone. Web cameras are installed throughout the territory. But here you can really find an inexpensive snack and a cheap hotel. There is a large entertainment center "Galaktika".

You can also get there by bus and train "Lastochka", going to the final station. Or taxis, buses. Gazprom is located next to Rosa Khutor, therefore, the transport is the same. The highest point is 2556 meters. When purchasing a tour, it is worth looking at what is included in the tariff. Sometimes it's better to buy a tour cheaper and save on those things that you definitely won't need.

Krasnaya Polyana Map

"Mountain Carousel"

Cheaper and more democratic resort, but very rapidly developing. There are 13 lifts and 11 slopes from green to black. There are inexpensive restaurants with delicious food. There are not many people, there are practically no queues. The resort is also located in Krasnaya Polyana, near the village of Krasnaya Polyana, in the village of Esto-Sadok. Rising on the lift, you can visit a cafe or restaurant at a very high altitude in the mountains. Krasnaya Polyana, Sochi is a high-level ski resort, but there are no ski resorts in the village of Krasnaya Polyana itself.

On a note! In the near future, under the Gorki Gorod project, it is planned to expand and increase establishments: new expensive restaurants, a water park.

You can get there by train "Lastochka", getting off at the station "Mountain Carousel", before reaching the final one. Regular buses run from Sochi, Adler and the Airport. Taxi up to 1500 rubles. Some residents of Sochi and Adler make a good living doing this. The highest point of the resort is the Black Pyramid, the height is 2375 meters.

"Alpika Service"

The resort was built a long time ago, it is considered the most sporting. Competitions and marathons in skiing are often held here. It is there that the women's biathlon for skiers and the biathlon for men with Dmitry Guberniev take place. It is located 8 km from the village of Esto-Sadok. They ski here from December to May, the highest point is 2150 m. Several large hotel complexes and small hotels are located on the territory. At an altitude of 2100 meters there is a real bathhouse with large panoramic windows. "Alpika" is famous for the strong elevation of the slopes, which starts from 500 meters. The route length reaches several kilometers.

Attention! Alpika is also a resort of Gazprom, but still these are different resorts, and they should not be confused.

Alpika includes 15 ski slopes and 5 cable cars. Buses and minibuses regularly go there from Adler, only buses from Sochi. You can find a bus from Sochi airport (Adler), but it rarely runs.

"Gorki city"

Scheme of routes "Gorki city"

It starts from the very resort village Esto-Sadok and covers most of the mountains and entertainment of Krasnaya Polyana. People come here in winter and summer. In "Gorki Gorod" there are apartments that are rented for a month or daily. This is convenient if you are planning a long vacation. The highest point is 2360 meters. Here, in addition to the usual tracks that stop working after 5-7 pm, there are autonomous tracks with lighting and artificial snow. There you can rent equipment and ride under the night sky. An option for those who do not have the opportunity to ride during the day or just want a night of romance with the moon and a minimum of people.

Attention! If you plan to travel with big company and big bags - it's better to book a transfer. You need to take the Lastochka train or bus to the Esto-Sadok station.

There are many others ski slopes Krasnodar Territory which are also a must visit. For example, Lagonaki. There is a sanatorium, several cafes and hotel. The tracks continue to develop, new cable cars appear. Lagonaki is located in Adygea, where the climate is favorable and the temperature in the mountains rarely drops below -15 degrees.

The second little-known but worthy resort is Dombay. It is located in Karachay-Cherkessia, not far from the Krasnodar Territory. highest point- 4068 meters. On the territory of Dombay there are baths, saunas and pools at different heights, cable cars and trails. All year round, Dombai accepts skiers and climbers, as well as just tourists who come on sightseeing tours.

You can buy tours to the ski resorts of Sochi on the official websites. True, the demand for them is high and it is best to book them a couple of months in advance. The site clearly describes the differences between the tours and prices for each. A manager works online, to whom you can write or call with questions.

The competitions of the 2014 Olympics were held in Krasnaya Polyana. As a result, there are new high-quality slopes and lifts, developed infrastructure, a lot of daily housing and hotels, a large set of related entertainment.
