Halkidiki. Hanioti. Review of the holiday in May.
The village is located on the Kassandra peninsula, on its north side, almost in the middle of the peninsula, just an hour's drive from Thessaloniki Airport (Macedonia). You can walk along and across it slowly, in about ten minutes. Chanioti is a very cozy and green village, with many flower beds, palm trees and taverns for every taste.

Very beautiful beaches in Chanioti. Its central part is all shops and taverns. Hotels are located closer to the sea and a little further to the outskirts. On the second day of our stay, we already knew all the streets and lanes and could walk along them even with our eyes closed and not get lost. And the streets in Hanioti are narrow and short. What I didn’t like was when, slowly, you walk and enjoy your rest, and cars creep up behind you and you have to constantly dodge them. Moreover, on mopeds and ATVs, tourists and the Greeks themselves drive along the narrow Haniot streets. At times it was even annoying.
The embankment in Chanioti, unlike the neighboring villages of Polichrono and Pefkohori, does not exist as such. There is a piece of a path along the sea 100 meters long. And that's it.

IN good weather from the shore you can see the middle finger of Chalkidiki, the peninsula of Sithonia. And in very good weather, you can see and famous mountain Athos on the peninsula of the same name. Holy place.

Palm alley leading to the promenade of Chanioti to the beach.

Cars in the center of Hanioti are parked in any free space. All car parks in Chanioti are free

There are many taverns in Hanioti, many of them have menus in Russian.

One of the central streets of Hanioti. Here, in local shops, of which there are many, we bought such souvenirs as fragrant Greek soap made from natural olive oil. After washing your hands, the skin becomes really velvety. When this soap was brought home, even on the landing one could smell the smell of honey - the basis of honey soap.

Tavern "Kasandra".

Especially for Russian visitors.

On the main square of Hanioti there is a fountain with colored illumination at night. On one side of the fountain are located, something like stands with benches. Almost every evening, original performances of either dancers or singers are arranged on this fountain square. It's fun to sit in a tavern drinking beer or coffee and watching the show. This village is very suitable for those who have gathered to Greece for the first time .

In Greece, you can often see some holidays and festivals. Greeks live happily, well done!

During our stay in Hanioti, an international children's dance festival was held.

All the streets are decorated with flowers and all kinds of flower beds.

Along the beach there are many taverns where you can dine and cafes where you can order any drinks. Prices are democratic, even quite. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that it is rather problematic to master the served dish alone. After such a snack, the belly cracks and you no longer want to move. So this time, despite the crisis, we did not notice price increases, and indeed the crisis itself. As Metaxa cost an average of 20 euros, the price remained the same.

This is what some traditional Greek salads look like.

In many taverns the menu is in Russian. And the prices are quite affordable.

The same is true for the rest of Greek goods and tourist consumption products. Unless gasoline has risen in price by 50%.

In almost all shops, sellers speak Russian. As elsewhere in Greece, passing by such a shop or tavern, you will smile and be sure to say hello. For comparison with Crete. In Crete, if you go to any shop, at the entrance there is a cooler with local moonshine, crayfish. You will definitely be offered to wave 50 grams from a plastic cup. There is no such thing in Hanioti. Moreover, we have never seen crayfish for sale, let alone racomello. Racomello is crayfish infused with honey. But in any quantity, excellent wines, cognac, the legendary Greek wine Retsina (with a touch of resin) and the amazing Mythos beer. This beer is drunk by the Greeks themselves.

Be sure to try some monastery Cahors. You can buy it in one of the many shops.

Cahors from Mount Athos.

The main square of the village.

Hanioti has two large supermarkets and two smaller ones. Large ones are located on the edge of the village on the main federal highway(if you can call it that). In them you can buy almost any food, fruit, wine and everything else. Prices for something are lower than in other shops, for something higher. There is even a “Russian products” department.

Looking ahead, I will say that buying olive oil and soap is cheaper in Hanioti, and not in “ duty free» Thessaloniki airport.

In small souvenir shops, of which there are a great many in Hanioti, you can buy everything that the tourist's heart desires. These are local wine, brandy, Greek anise vodka "Uzo" (the Greeks drink it diluted with water), all kinds of T-shirts with Greek symbols, various varieties of local soap, etc. Lots of honey. About soap. As a rule, everything is “hands made”, i.e. self made. It smells amazing: rose, honey, lavender or, for example, orange. We even saw soap with a washcloth interspersed. Price from 2 to 5 euros. All this can be great. souvenir from Greece .

There are also many fur shops in the town. But we did not go into them and did not ask the price.
Greeks smoke a lot. They puff around every corner. However, despite this, their life expectancy is higher than, say, ours. They say this because they sleep from two in the afternoon until six in the evening (they call it a siesta), drink homemade wine and eat a lot of olives. Olives sold in Greece differ from those sold here in that they are heavily salted. Reputable institutions do not work during the siesta and do not communicate with each other. True, in resort towns there are other laws. Tourist and siesta are not compatible. And the Greeks are very religious people.

Almost at every hotel, and just in every village there are small chapels where every Christian can go and talk with God.

Chanioti beaches.

Central beach of Chanioti.

The beaches in Chanioti are free, sandy, but the use of umbrellas and sunbeds is paid. Seems like 6 euros a day for a set. But on the beach you can also lie down on your own towel or on a straw bedding bought in a nearby shop. They also sell beach umbrellas of any color. Those who wish can rent a catamaran on the beach for 10 euros per hour or a boat with oars. And if you wish, you can fish for horse mackerel right from the shore. What many did. Fishing is free.

The dark stripe behind the motorcycle is just a stone slab. Passed through it and you will find soft sand under your feet. Cross it and you will find soft sand under your feet.

Beginning of the season, May. The beaches in Chanioti are empty. At this time of the year, storms occur in Halkidiki. For example, we observed such a storm on Hanioti beach for two whole days.

A piece of the promenade with a city beach.

Early in the morning, the beaches of Hanioti are empty. In the month of May.

Hanioti taverns.

For lovers of delicious and satisfying food, Greece is simply a paradise! There are many taverns in Hanioti. We have visited several. The menu in many of them is in Russian, but it is written with a joke, apparently for fun.

Menu in taverns. Almost everywhere you can find a menu in Russian.

Cool menu, apparently translation.

One of the taverns. It's nice to sit in such a wonderful place during the heat.

Everywhere the food is delicious and the service is quite decent and absolutely not intrusive. We had a hotel with breakfast and dinner, so we had lunch in taverns. Every day in a new tavern. On the first day we ate in a pizzeria on the main square. Pizza ordered medium (middle) with seafood.

When they brought it to us, we thought that the waiter made a mistake and brought us a big one. But, it turned out everything was right, the pizza was just average. Just in size they are average in size that ours is large. Greek pizza is high in calories. She with shrimps, mussels and mushrooms. All this is perfectly washed down with homemade wine. In Greece, in any tavern, I advise you to ask the waiter for house wine. We ordered half a liter of red wine for our "middle", although white would go with seafood. This order cost us 13 euros for two. Yes, water in taverns in Greece is always served free of charge, and the water in Halkidiki is very tasty.

Everything that we could not eat in this pizzeria, they asked us to wrap it with us. The waiter packed our "malnutrition" in a special separate box. By the way, at the entrance to the institution there is a sign with the inscription “take away”, i. Pizza can be ordered to go or take away half-eaten. The waiter serving us, as it turned out, spoke Russian. By the way, it’s funny, in many establishments and shops, after greeting in Greek “I sas” (hello), you start the conversation in English, and during the conversation it turns out that your interlocutor speaks excellent Russian. As one saleswoman told us, they try to take sellers to shops with knowledge of the Russian language. Russian is spoken everywhere: in taverns, in shops, in hotels, and this is pleasantly pleasing.
We tried souvlaki (local barbecue) and moussaka in a tavern called "Café de fleur" on the waterfront.

I even asked to be shown to the kitchen to see how the moussaka was made. A girl, apparently the manager, came out, said: “for God's sake, look,” but she never led me to the kitchen. I never managed to see and photograph the process of preparing this dish. But still, the moussaka was amazing. These are eggplants laid in layers and baked in dough, potatoes, minced meat and some special sauce inside. And souvlaki - kebab kebab, nothing special. There are chicken souvlaki and pork souvlaki (pork).
If you are a coffee lover, then be sure to try "Greek coffee". It costs 2-2.5 euros in Hanioti taverns. Do not under any circumstances say that you want Turkish coffee. The Greeks are very offended by this.

The neighboring villages of Polichrono and Pefkochori can be reached by bus that runs along the coast along the main road of Kassandra. Stops in Chanioti are located near large supermarkets. On the "head" of the bus is written "Halkidiki". Naturally in Greek. They run every half hour. For those who like to travel by car, there are car rentals in Chanioti. But that is another story.

Embankment at night.

This is how Hanioti taverns attract visitors.

Evening Chanioti is no less beautiful.

"Rent a car" in Hanioti.
There are two car rental offices in Hanioti. One in the center of the village, the second up the street towards the main road. In the one in the center, an elderly Greek works. In English, he barely squeezes something out of himself. It was not possible to find out the terms of the lease with him. But in the second one (called "Status") the man quite intelligibly and clearly explained everything, told and, in addition, his assistant speaks excellent Russian. Renting a Toyota Yaris for two days cost us 85 euros with full insurance. The day before the rental, we paid 20 euros in advance and at the appointed time the car was waiting for us near the office. But that is another story. We read here.
In the evenings it is nice to walk along the streets of Hanioti or just sit in a tavern.

Small resort town Chanioti, Halkidiki is a very picturesque village with favorable conditions for recreation. Absolutely anyone can have a good time here: a budget traveler, a wealthy vacationer, and lovers of a measured, relaxing vacation, and families with children, and avid party-goers.

Features of Chanioti

Chanioti in Greece is a compact but extremely well thought out and lively resort. The village is located on the first "finger" of the Chalkidiki peninsula - Kassandra. The regional capital is a 60-minute drive from here. In winter, there are practically no tourists in the town, so the life of the indigenous people of Greece proceeds at the usual measured pace. But in the summer, with the onset beach season, the village is literally transformed and transformed into one of the most popular resorts the entire peninsula.

Kassandra is considered the most party place in Halkidiki, however, the stormy night life does not prevent families with children from enjoying their holidays.

Everyone knows that in Greece the majority settlements have a thousand-year history, and Chanioti, by local standards, is a very young town. It was formed only in 1935. The reason was the well-known earthquake, which destroyed the village, located on a hill. The inhabitants decided to go down to the sea and began the construction of Hanioti. Archaeologists say that on the site of the town in ancient times there was a city called Ega, so perhaps soon there will be many historical exhibits here.

well maintained beaches

The beach in Chanioti, Halkidiki, several kilometers long, is strewn with small pebbles almost everywhere. For the crystal clear waters and the coastal zone, he is regularly awarded the Blue Flag. The width of the beach is quite narrow, but the density of vacationers is never too high - there is enough space for everyone. Nearby is very beautiful park with ancient pines. Also on the coast you can walk through the banana groves and enjoy the views of the Sithonia peninsula and Mount Athos.

Naturally, on the beach of Chanioti there are sunbeds with umbrellas, but you can also sit on your own in relatively "wild" places for swimming. Many people specifically look for such untouched corners for the sake of peace and relaxation in deserted place. By the way, many coastal hotels have private beaches, but they are not fenced, but simply equipped with an information sign. On one of these beaches, you can easily take a place for any "walking" tourist.

All types of water activities are available to holidaymakers on the coast of Chanioti in Halkidiki. There is a diving center and volleyball courts. Both beginners and experienced divers will appreciate the local picturesque bays which can be explored with scuba gear or crossed on jet skis.

If you are going to attend such an event, it is advisable to find out all the information in advance. At the end of summer, the annual international folklore festival takes place here. Creative teams from Greece and other Mediterranean countries come to perform. The fun is overflowing, so it's worth visiting the festival at least once.

By Greek standards, Hanioti is not just a young resort, but a mega-young one. The settlement on this place was formed only in 1935, when, after a strong earthquake, the local population decided to move closer to the sea.

The vast majority of tourists planning a holiday in Hanioti arrive in Greece by air via Macedonia Airport in Thessaloniki. And if the transfer is not provided by the tour operator, then there are three ways to get from to Chaniotim.

The first one is the cheapest, but at the same time labor-intensive - by bus: Hanioti is connected to Thessaloniki by regular service. True, for this you will first have to get from the airport to the KTEL Halkidikis bus station using bus number 79A.

Then everything is the same as ours: the schedule is specified, a ticket is bought and, having taken a seat on the bus, you wait for your stop. In the off-season months, the bus schedule leaves much to be desired, but in the summer the operator adds routes, and getting to Chanioti becomes easier.

You can get from Thessaloniki Airport by taxi

The second way to get to Hanioti is to take a taxi. It is easy to catch a car right at the terminal, but, nevertheless, booking a taxi online is more often a more economical way. The main advantage of online ordering is in advance known value trips. Since there are about 100 km from Thessaloniki to Chanioti, the route chosen by the driver may well not only add extra Euros to the price of the trip, but also stretch out in time. With a price known in advance, such manipulations with travelers are excluded, and you can be absolutely sure that you will not only be met, but also taken by the shortest route.

Also, when ordering a taxi via the Internet, it is possible to indicate in advance the need for a car with a large trunk or pre-installed child seats. The meeting with the driver, as a rule, takes place at the exit from the baggage claim area, but in each case all the details are duplicated on the passenger's e-mail immediately after the order is made.

Finally, another important advantage of the service is the absence of markups in case of a flight delay or cancellation. The company providing the service independently monitors the airport's online scoreboard and sends the car just in time.

You can also get to Hanioti by rented car. The largest international car rental operators are represented right in the airport terminal. But, as in the case of a taxi, renting on the spot is far from always profitable.

It is much more economical to use the popular European car rental price comparison service, which was developed by the creators of the no less popular hotel portal Booking.com.

The system online monitors all changes in prices and terms of car rental in largest airports world and allows you to choose the best offer in a matter of minutes. Booking online is especially important at the height of the season, when prices even in neighboring car rentals can differ very significantly, and the number of available cars leaves much to be desired.
