Hua Hin reviews. Features of the Hua Hin resort and our impressions

Hua Hin, a small provincial city located on the western coast of the Gulf of Thailand, two hundred kilometers south of, fits the definition "Potemkin Village". The fact is that it was chosen as the summer residence of the royal family. Therefore, an exemplary Siamese province is cultivated in it - the way the king himself would like to see it. Many Hua Hin attractions created specifically for tourists. For example, . However, excursions to the sights of Hua Hin are quite an interesting and educational way to spend time.

Train Station

This landmark of Hua Hin is protocol, and for Thais it is sacred, almost sacred. Like everything connected with the name of the deceased king. Built in 1911, it became a symbol of the fact that the monarch honored the city with his attention and chose it as his residence, after which it flourished and turned into a resort. Now it carefully preserves the waiting room, specially built in 1920 for the king and members of his family. And this despite the fact that the crowned persons in last years do not want to travel railway. Cicada Market

If you have no idea at all, what to see in Hua Hin On a weekend evening, head to the Cicada Market located on Khao Takiab Street in the southern part of the city. This is its main party place, where not only tourists, but also local residents gather. Artists open galleries there under open air, get settled theater shows, there is live music. There are souvenir shops where you can buy crafts inspired by the hand of a master, and not standard consumer goods. You can try all sorts of delicious European, Thai or Chinese cuisine by sitting at a free table.

Night Market

Another one attraction in Hua Hin which is visited after sunset. The market on Soi 72 starts at 17:00. In general, for Thailand, the revival of life after the heat of the day subsides is quite common. There are such night fairs and food courts on other streets. The range of goods is quite standard: souvenirs, clothes, shoes... There are cafes and shops next to the shopping arcades. Many dishes, including seafood and huge, two-kilogram lobsters, are cooked in front of customers using an open fire. You definitely need to know in order to save a few extra baht.

Wat Ampharam Temple

The Wat Ampharam temple, which, excuse the pun, has nothing remarkable. There are more beautiful places of worship in Thailand. The whole point, again, is the closeness of the royal family. This is a functioning complex consisting of a monastery, a temple and a columbarium.

Monkey Mountain - Khao Takiab

Khao Takiab is a mountain, the visual dominant of the city, which gives its name to the street and the whole area. Its height is 272 meters. Don't expect to see "herds" there. Several elderly monkeys live out their lives on its top, where there is also a temple Wat Khao Lat, whose architecture combines Chinese and Siamese styles. On the half-mountain, facing the city, stands a 20-meter tall Buddha statue. There are several viewing platforms.

The natural landscape, where there are mountains, beaches, and virgin tropical forests full of strange animals, is decorated with temples. The park was created in 1966. It is worth setting aside two or three days to visit it, and traveling around the territory in a rented car.

Pala-U Waterfall

Sixty kilometers west of Hua Hin, almost on the border with Myanmar, is Kaeng Krachan National Park. Its decoration is the Palau Falls (Pa La-U, Pala-U), the highest in Thailand. It consists of sixteen steps. If you manage to climb to its top, you will enjoy views of Central Thailand and neighboring Myanmar. The border jungle is almost untouched and full of exotic animals. On the road from Hua Hin to the waterfall you can meet people walking freely.

Shopping complex Venezia

The Venice shopping and entertainment complex is located twenty kilometers north of Hua Hin, on the road to Bangkok. Something similar, but in French style in Pattaya (). Two Italian-style streets, a canal along which visitors are taken on gondola rides. There are several shops and a restaurant. There is an interactive zoo (exclusively sheep). The exhibition of 3D paintings is very interesting. You can “embed” into each of them and take an original photo as a keepsake.

Baan Silapin - artists' village

Baan Silapin Artist Village is sure to please fans visual arts. It is located four kilometers west of the city center, in a shady grove. This artistic village was founded in 1989 by artist Tawee Kesa-ngam, who left bustling Bangkok for inspiration. The community of free artists organized around him is close in lifestyle and worldview to the hippie subculture. You can chat with masters working in different genres, and also buy unique works in your own way. For example, wooden etchings of Buddha, terracotta figurines, landscapes.

Temple complex Wat Huay Mongkol

A real Buddhist shrine, to which people come from all over the world to pay their respects. Its spiritual center is a huge statue of the monk Luang Phor Tuad, revered in Thailand and beyond. Because of the color, the sculpture is called “Black Monk”. The complex is surrounded by a park with traditional Thai canals, bridges and goldfish ponds. Physical hunger can be satisfied in a cafe, where the food is quite tasty.

Vineyards

Hua Hin Hills Vineyard grape plantations are located thirty kilometers west of the city. They are included in the list of official excursions to the sights of Hua Hin. From half past eight in the morning until half past seven in the evening you can walk there and even taste the growing grapes. Juice or wine is sold at a restaurant nearby. Among other things, this place is also a wonderful observation deck.

Royal Palace

Mrigadayavan Palace – Hua Hin landmark, to which this city owes its actual birth. Built in 1923, it transformed a fishing village into a royal resort. The residence of Rama IV is a must-see destination. Entrance to it is paid, but this is not all the conditions for visitors. They must take off their shoes and behave as befits a royal audience.

Temple ship Wat Ta Nod Luang

Buddhism is a religion that is tolerant of almost everything. Therefore among places of worship you can find quite a lot. For example, Wat Ta Nod Luang is a temple ship located near the village of Bang Kao, a few kilometers from the coast. Its appearance combines traditional Buddhist attributes and elements of ship equipment. The elephant, ubiquitous in temples in Thailand, holds a steering wheel on its head, and the central panel of the temple depicts scenes of a shipwreck. Its roof is decorated with thousands of small bells that ring in the wind. The temple was built recently, mainly to attract tourists. However, nearby is a truly ancient monastery, which contains a sculpture of the revered monk Luang Phor Thong Suk.

Turtle Temple Wat Khao Tao

Fifteen kilometers south of Hua Hin there is a very beautiful beach Sai Noi. It is also notable for the fact that Wat Khao Tao, the Turtle Temple, was built nearby. It can be considered a Buddhist park, since the landscape is decorated with man-made caves, picturesque paths, ladders, and unusually shaped stones. Like a cherry on the cake, all this romantic splendor is crowned by the temple. You can perform a ritual to attract good luck in it. As a thank you, leave an offering of 100 baht.

Khao Luang Cave Temple

Cave temple, a landmark of Hua Hin that is a must-visit, despite its considerable remoteness. It is located near the city of Phetchaburi, a walk through the streets of which will be a good addition to the excursion.

Kaeng Krachan National Park

National Park, the largest in Thailand. Located on the border with Myanmar. Closest to it settlements– these are the cities of Hua Hin, Phetchaburi, Cha-Am. An array of almost untouched mountain tropical forest, replete with exotic animals and plants. Numerous rivers, waterfalls, and caves add to its picturesqueness. Eat hot spring. It is located sixty kilometers west of Hua Hin. The road itself can be an unforgettable adventure. On it you can meet wild elephants.

Hin Lek Fai Viewpoint

It's more like a whole complex observation platforms, located on the slope of Khao Hin Lek Fai mountain with a height of 162 meters. Six places with stunning views of the outskirts of Hua Hin and the coast of the Gulf of Thailand are connected by picturesque paths and bridges. There is a park around them where orchids and other exotic plants grow.

mangrove forest

An attraction in Hua Hin, which is part of more large park Forest Park, where you can stroll through the very common South-East Asia landscape - mangrove forest. Tourists walk along suspended bridges that are closed to each other. It is impossible to get lost there; at every turn there is a map of the park and an exit sign. The main feature of the place is the hordes of mangrove crabs swarming among clusters of aerial roots. The coastal part of Forest Park is interesting to visit not because there are many wonders there, but because of the opportunity for relaxation. There are benches and tables under the canopy of trees. Before entering the park there is a sandy beach called Pran Kiri - a wild, unequipped coastline.

Black woman

Near the town of Cha-Am there is Pak Tien Beach. It is famous for its statue, which has no official name, and therefore simply called “Black Woman”. It depicts a female sea demon who extends her hand towards a young Siamese prince sitting on a small island. At low tide you can reach the woman itself, which is six meters high. Due to constant contact with the sea elements, the Cyclopean structure is gradually destroyed.

But I would like to visit it. And the first question is where is Hua Hin and how to get to it from Bangkok or other places in Thailand?
We share the most convenient, low-cost options that are affordable and affordable.

Where is Hua Hin?

Rarely does a city in Thailand boast such a favorable, convenient location for tourists and developed transport infrastructure, like Hua Hin. The city stretches along the federal highway - just 220 kilometers from the capital of Thailand, Bangkok, on west bank Gulf of Thailand.
See the location of Hua Hin on, as well as on the Google map:

The Royal Resort's proximity to Bangkok gives it many advantages, including transport. Slightly exaggerating, we can say that all roads lead to Hua Hin: roads, railways, and until recently, also air. True, the flights have now been cancelled, apparently as unnecessary.

So, how to get to Hua Hin from Bangkok?

Minibus from Bangkok to Hua Hin

One of the convenient options is regular minibus from Victory Monument.
Since October 2016, all minibuses departing to Hua Hin have been moved to.

Victory Monument

On bus station, located next to Victory Monument BTS Station, is very easy to get to from anywhere in Bangkok. Along the entire perimeter of the square there are parking lots of mini-buses that go to different cities Thailand. Bangkok-Hua Hin buses are located to the left of the metro exit. However, it’s better to ask - they will definitely tell you.
Flights to Hua Hin are every half hour, from 5 am to 7 pm. The fare is 180 baht. And here travel time depends on many factors: traffic jams, the driver’s efficiency, the presence or absence of stops for lunch, toilet, gas station. We got there for 2.5 hours, and almost for 4 .
In Hua Hin, the minibus arrives at a small station in Soi 72, a five-minute walk from the city center.

Minibus tickets can be purchased upon departure, or in advance, from the 12GoAsia website - for the same 180 baht.

By the way. You can also get to the capital from Bangkok to Hua Hin, but we have never used this option: it’s too inconvenient.

Bus to Hua Hin from the airport

Comfortable bus from Bangkok airport to Hua Hin

If you intend to immediately go to Hua Hin upon arrival in Thailand, without a break, there is a very convenient, hassle-free way. By bus from international airport Suvarnabhumi.
The bus leaves from exit No. 8 (this is the first floor). Does it in a day seven flights: at 07.30, 09.30, 11.30, 13.30, 15.00, 16.30, 19.30. The schedule, however, may change, so it’s better to check the information; you can buy tickets in advance on this website.
The fare is about 300 baht. Travel time is from 3 to 4 hours. In Hua Hin, the bass arrives at the bus station in Soi 96/1 (this is near the center and Market Village).
I note that buses from the airport are much more comfortable than minibuses.

Train at Hua Hin station

How to get to Hua Hin by train

Another nice form of transport to Hua Hin is a train or electric train. By train you can come from Bangkok or, for example, from Surat Thani, and therefore from Phuket, Samui, Phangan, Krabi, if with a transfer.
Traveling by rail has both pros and cons. So, getting from Bangkok by train to Hua Hin is not very convenient, it takes too long. The stated travel time is about 5 hours. But we know from personal experience: trains in Thailand - with rare exceptions - have a habit of being late. Once we got from Phetchaburi to Hua Hin instead of one hour - more than four!
However, if you are heading to the Royal Resort from the south of Thailand, then the best way, how sleeping car trains, you can't imagine.
Here are our impressions of a trip on a Thai train - albeit in the opposite direction:

Train Stationbusiness card Hua Hina. The building is like a toy, and the coffee from the road is very good. Nearby, on the highway, taxi drivers and bikers are on duty around the clock. They will take you anywhere in the city at any time.

Railway station in Hua Hin

And nearby is Royal Hall expectations.

Royal Pavilion

Hua Hin also boasts its own airport. There was a time when planes flew here from Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport. But now the flights have been cancelled.

The Malacca Peninsula, located in the south of Thailand, was chosen by the king for vacation at the beginning of the 20th century. In the former fishing village, the Klai Gangwon Palace grew up, which translated means “secluded, far from the bustle,” and after that the village itself grew to the size of a town, now known as the resort of Hua Hin.

And although the area of the city and its population have increased, Hua Hin has not lost its privacy, turning into a cozy place for family vacation. It is famous for its beauty sandy beaches, and also security: since the royal couple still comes here on vacation, the city police are taking enhanced measures to maintain law and order.

If you choose to holiday with children in Hua Hin, you will find freedom from worries, peace and several pleasant discoveries. Why this is so, read our review.

Hua Hin on the map of Thailand

The city of Hua Hin is one of the oldest resorts in Thailand. It is located in the north of the Malay Peninsula, on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand, 220 km from Bangkok. Hua Hin is administrative center municipal district in Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

The location of Hua Hin is very convenient for tourists. If you want to take a break from the whirlwind of everyday life, you can sunbathe on quiet beaches and swim in the sea. But as soon as boredom begins to creep in, it’s worth taking the bus and in a couple of hours you’ll be in Bangkok, where there are amusement parks, play centers and children’s museums.

Vacation with children

Holidays in Hua Hin are valued by both Thais and tourists. And this is not surprising: a calm, safe resort near the capital is good in many respects. Firstly, Hua Hin is easily accessible by plane, train or bus from Bangkok. Traveling to a vacation spot will not tire your child, which means that immediately after arrival you can leave your things in the room and go to the sea.

Secondly, Hua Hin is a reputable resort. In terms of respectability, it is often compared to Pattaya, but Hua Hin is more suitable for families with children due to the silence and lack of noisy nightlife. Life here flows calmly and peacefully, so you can truly relax with your child.

Thirdly, the town has an excellent tourist infrastructure. There are many luxury hotels here, although you can find apartments or guesthouses for relatively little money.

One of the advantages of traveling to Hua Hin with children is family hotels. They take upon themselves the decision of what to feed the children, how to organize their leisure time and how to provide parents with the opportunity to relax. In such hotels you can relax even with an infant.

In terms of entertainment, we can recommend Hua Hin for preschoolers and primary schoolchildren. They will enjoy riding elephants, visiting game centers and water parks. If you are going on holiday with teenagers, we recommend visiting Bangkok, where there are many more interesting places.

When is the best time to go?

The weather forecast seems to clearly indicate when is the best time to travel to Hua Hin. The optimal time to relax on the beach is from December to March, when there is no rain, stupefying heat and high humidity.

In winter and early spring, it is easiest for children to adapt to a new climate, which means that most of their vacation can be devoted to beaches, walks and excursions.

The high season in Hua Hin starts in November, and the maximum number of tourists flock to the resort in the winter months. It is advisable to book accommodation for this time in the summer, as best options sorted out long before the start of the season.

It must be said that there are several reasons to visit the resort before the opening of the season in Hua Hin or after it closes. For example, in November, Thais celebrate Loy Krathong.

The main event of the holiday is the launching of flower boats with candles. But besides this, ceremonial processions and theatrical performances are organized in cities.

In April, Thailand welcomes New Year. There are fun celebrations in the streets, and be prepared to be doused with water - for good luck.

Weather and climate

Winter in Hua Hin is summer. And summer is also summer. And the hottest summer is spring. Jokes aside, Hua Hin's tropical climate means constant heat and high humidity.

The most pleasant weather without rain and intense heat lasts at the resort from December to March.

In December-January the temperature is +30ºС, but already in February it begins to rise and by March reaches +33ºС. The nights are relatively cool, around +24-25ºС. Have a better holiday in Hua Hin with children, you can’t think of anything better to do than relax in winter and early spring.

It starts to rain in May. First - at night, without leaving a single puddle by morning. But the closer to autumn, the longer the showers last. In September-October, precipitation does not stop for several days.

And since the air temperature remains at +32-33ºС, the heat seems unbearable due to high humidity. And if you can still choose summer for a holiday with a child, then autumn is absolutely not suitable for a trip.

Vacations in Hua Hin should be planned no earlier than November. There is significantly less rain, clear days prevail, and the air temperature is +30-32ºС. To travel with a baby to Hua Hin, we recommend choosing winter months with stable dry weather.

Sea water temperature

The sea temperature in Hua Hin differs little from the air temperature. If the resort is hot at +33ºС, the water warms up to +30ºС. If the air cools to +30ºС, as happens in winter, the water temperature in Hua Hin drops to +27ºС. In any case, the water is never colder than +25ºС.

Detailed information is unnecessary - but how it pleases the heart:

  • December - +27.8ºС
  • January - +27ºС
  • February - +27.6ºС
  • March - +28.9ºС
  • April - +30ºС

Nutrition

Most hotels in Hua Hin include buffet breakfast. You can also have lunch and dinner in hotel restaurants, where the cuisine is tailored to the needs of tourists. The menu includes dishes of European and Thai cuisine, so a child who eats from an adult table will not go hungry.

When choosing the best place to travel with children, some tourists prefer to rent a room with a kitchen or an apartment so they can cook on their own. In Hua Hin there are no problems with buying groceries: everything you need is sold in supermarkets, small shops and markets.

If you decide to devote an independent holiday in Hua Hin with children to the most complete acquaintance with Thailand, then you will definitely be interested in Thai cuisine. Local dishes are mostly spicy, so young children should order food without spices.

Transport

Public transport in Hua Hin consists of songthaews, popular throughout Thailand, that is, pickup trucks converted to carry passengers. There are no soft seats, no air conditioning, or even windows in the songthaew, but travel costs only 10-40 TNV (tickets for children cost the same).

Songthaews do not have numbers, but the route can be identified by color. Green songthaews go through the center, along the coast, and can take you to the bus station and airport. White ones provide convenient access to the train station, supermarkets and markets. Orange ones drive through secondary streets.

The songthaew does not have a schedule as such, but from morning to 18-19 hours they run every 15-30 minutes.

Intercity transport in Hua Hin is somewhat more comfortable. To Cha-Am there are old, but quite functional buses, the fare of which costs about 60 TNV. You can get to Phuket and Krabi by air-conditioned buses, but travel will cost 450 TVN.

The most expensive option for getting around Hua Hin is a taxi. A short trip will cost at least 200 TNV, and you need to bargain for this price. If you prefer travel rather than walking, you can rent a car. Car rental companies operate in both Hua Hin and Bangkok.

Most Thais come to Hua Hin city in Thailand for romantic and have a relaxing holiday.
