Bulgaria burgas sveti vlas. History of St.

There is already a lot of information about Saint Vlas on my website. This article will be a guide to my previous posts on the resort of St. Vlas.

Saint Vlas is not Big city or resort village located near Sunny Beach and Burgas. I really like this town. Perhaps this is my favorite city in Bulgaria, in which I have already rested more than 5 times. The resort is perfect for a relaxing and inexpensive vacation summer in Bulgaria with children.

St. Vlas is ideal for tourists who want to take a break from the bustle of the big city and immerse themselves in the measured rhythm of a small village on the Black Sea coast.

We walk around Saint Vlas

When they ask me where to spend my holidays with children in Bulgaria or where to go to relax together so that there are not so many tourists, I always recommend St. Vlas.

Sunsets in Saint Vlas

What is so good about rest in St. Vlas

1) Empty beaches at the beginning and end of the swimming season. At the height of the season, there are also not so many people as in the more popular resorts in Bulgaria.

Empty beach at sunset in Saint Vlas

2) The proximity of the village to the international one, to which regular and charter flights fly from Russia throughout the year.

3) Nearby major resort and the ancient Roman city, which, if desired, can be reached by bus in 10 and 20 minutes, respectively.

Empty central beach of Saint Vlas

4) New infrastructure - well-maintained and illuminated roads, many cafes and shops, a children's day camp and other leisure activities.

Well-maintained St. Vlas

5) St. Vlas is located on a small mountain and thus has a kind of unique microclimate. No wonder, back in Soviet times, there was a sanatorium for those suffering from bronchial asthma.

View of Saint Vlas from the embankment of Nessebar

6) The resort is located in the southern part of the coast of Bulgaria and the weather here is usually sunnier and warmer in summer and especially in the Velvet season than in the cities and towns of the Varna region.

Cons of the resort

1) There are no particular attractions in the village. However, this applies to 90% of all places in Bulgaria. For a long time it was under the patronage of Turkey, and in the 20th century it was part of the socialist camp under the control of the USSR. For history and architecture, you need to go deep into Bulgaria or to neighboring countries such as Istanbul or Transylvania.

Majestic Istanbul

2) The town is quite small. There are more entertainment facilities in the neighboring one, such as nightclubs, water parks. In Sveti Vlas there is only a small disco in the very center of the city during the season. Sometimes on weekends, there are parties in the yacht club. For some, this may be a minus, because. I want more drive and movement. At the same time, for example, the neighboring one is even quieter. Here there is almost nothing at all, except for the sea, a couple of beaches and cafes.

Saint Vlas Yacht Club

3) There is no direct bus to Saint Vlas from Burgas Airport. You need to go to Sunny Beach, and only then to the airport. In general, this increases travel time by 15-20 minutes. However, you can always use the services of a taxi, which in Bulgaria is not so expensive.

How to get to Saint Vlas

The easiest way to get to Sveti Vlas is through Burgas, which is regularly served by S7 and Bulgaria Air every year. Also, during the season, from May to October, there are a large number of charter flights. It is better to buy tickets in advance. From personal experience I will say that good value round-trip airfare to Bulgaria on regular flights is .

Flights Moscow - Burgas for June

I monitored these prices back in March. Closer to summer, I think the average cost of a flight will be about 20 tr.

Not so long ago I wrote a large review article, . Come in, read. There's a lot interesting options flight. It is possible to build your route to see other cities in Bulgaria or go to Istanbul.

How to get from Burgas airport

About Burgas Airport, I also already published a detailed article. I don't want to duplicate content. In short, there are two ways:

1) The most convenient and fastest is a taxi. If you are traveling with children or with heavy suitcases, I think this option is more preferable. You can arrange a transfer right at the airport, but with a greater degree of probability it will not be the best option, especially if you arrive later than 23:00, when it stops going public transport. Break the high price.

How to get to St. Vlas from Burgas Airport

You can use the services of one of the taxi services. I like . About him good feedback in the Internet. No need to call and look for a driver on the spot. The taxi driver will meet you at the exit with a sign with your name on it.

Meeting at the airport

The approximate cost of a trip to St. Vlas will be about 2000-2500 rubles.

Important note! In no way am I imposing the services or places voiced in the article. These are my recommendations of sites, the services of which I myself often use. You decide how you want to spend your vacation.

2) From Burgas Airport to St. Vlas can be reached by bus. Come back on two buses. First you need to take bus number 10, the stop of which is located near the exit from the airport (you need to walk a little, across the road under the bridge). The bus goes to Sunny Beach. At the bus station, you need to transfer to buses number 5 or number 8, which follow to St. Vlas. Travel time will be about 1.5 hours, which is more than twice as long as by taxi, but at the same time the fare will be about 500 rubles for two buses per person. If you travel alone or as a couple, it will be cheaper. The only point that I wrote about above is that after 23:00 the buses do not run, and if you have a late flight, then the buses disappear!

beaches

The site has. There is also a map of St. Vlas. Photos of beaches. Recommendations for the choice of housing. How many algae and other unpleasant vegetation in the sea.

Central beach of St. Vlas

Near the eastern beach is the yacht club of St. Vlas. Very nice place for daytime and evening walks.

Apartments and hotels

To the question of what is better to rent a hotel or apartment for living in St. Vlas, I don’t have a clear answer.

Well-maintained St. Vlas

I recommend booking a hotel for a short stay up to 10 days. You will not have much time, and the hotel usually has rooms cleaned 1-2 times a day, breakfast is usually included, you can solve any minor problems that have arisen more quickly. Save a little time for rest, while not losing much money, if at all.

Small hotels on the first line - a typical development in Sveti Vlas

On the other hand, when booking an apartment, you can cook in the apartment. Sometimes this is very convenient. We last rested in Bulgaria when Artem was 6 months old. He retired early for a night's sleep and it was inconvenient to have dinner somewhere outside the house. But in the apartment you can put the child to sleep in the bedroom, and you yourself can relax and have dinner in the next room.

Cafes and restaurants

There are a lot of cafes and restaurants in Saint Vlas. Bulgarian and Italian cuisines. Fast food and Chinese eateries. Sushi bars and respectable restaurants. You won't be left hungry.

The average bill in a cafe is about 25-30 lev for two. In restaurants, the price tag is higher. A full dinner there will be about 40-50 lev.

My favorite cafe in Sveti Vlas is Central Pizzeria, located on central square cities. Good service and nice city view. It's tasty and cheap here.

Central square of Saint Vlas

Also in my blog there was a separate article about . There are all appearances and passwords. Map of the city with the location of the cafe. Also in the article I mention places where we didn't like the food and service.

The shops

Almost every street in the city has a small shop or grocery store. On the outskirts of the village, two large stores were built, similar to Auchan. It's never a problem to buy groceries. Private shops are open until midnight, which is very convenient.

Large supermarkets

The first Mercury hypermarket is located on the outskirts of the city on the way to Sunny Beach. It has a large selection of products and household chemicals. We also bought diapers for our baby here. In children's stores, their prices were higher.

Food prices do not differ much from private shops located throughout the resort. There is only more choice. This is especially true for meat. In Mercury, we often bought chicken for soup (about 200-230 rubles per kg). By the way, meat in Bulgaria will cost more than in Russia.

Pomegranates grow on trees - beauty!

IN opposite side Sveti Vlas has recently built another ParkMart hypermarket. Been there a couple of times. The range of products seemed to me similar to Mercury. The store itself is newer and cleaner. But the prices are higher than in other supermarkets in the city. When we rested in 2019, the store was empty. I wouldn't be surprised if it closes in 2020.

Private stores

There are a lot of small shops and stalls with fruits and vegetables. Prices for vegetables and fruits vary depending on the country of production. Bulgarian products are naturally cheaper. Prices for fruits and vegetables depend on the season. For example, in June, local cherries and strawberries are very cheap. Peaches, plums and apricots, etc. ripen in August.

Small shop near our complex

For children

There are many different shops in the city. At the resort you can buy everything you need for a holiday with children. Last year, for the first time, we went on vacation with a child and I was pleasantly surprised that everything needed for my son could be purchased without leaving for more big cities.

We bought a pool for Artem for the next season. In the meantime, He sleeps well in it during the day 🙂

In Sveti Vlas there is a chain of Tema children's stores where you can buy goods for children. Prices are about the same as in Moscow.

Other goods

On the main street there are pavilions of household goods and shops with clothes. They sell sheepskin coats and leather jackets, most likely brought from neighboring Turkey and Greece. Sometimes interesting knitwear, swimwear and other beach accessories come across.

On the main street there is a Refan local cosmetics store. We buy soaps and moisturizers from here all the time. The prices are moderate and the quality is great!

Pharmacies

There are two large pharmacies in the center. I marked one of them on the map. In it, we bought Artyom eye drops when his son developed a slight conjunctivitis. Looks like he brought it with his hands when sunbathing on the beach. The doctor recommended us excellent drops. Everything went away in 2-3 days. So, if something is more serious, it is better to call your insurance right away. A little later I will write about travel insurance, which we always arrange when we go on vacation.

The prices here are much lower if you take out insurance through all sorts of visa centers. You know, there are such "rafiks" near the embassies. When applying for a Schengen visa, you always need insurance. Here they are selling it there to those who forgot to buy in advance at a double price. Therefore, I strongly recommend buying insurance in advance. Later I will publish a number of articles on this topic, in which cases this or that insurance is more profitable.

Currency exchange

There are a lot of exchange kiosks. Everywhere they change euros, dollars and even rubles. The course of the left is the same everywhere. "Black" exchangers from hidden commission and no other rubbish at all. In Burgas or Varna, of course, it is more profitable to exchange currency. However, I don’t see the point in going to large cities on purpose, for the sake of saving a few lions. Spend more money on travel.

Rent a Car

Walking around the city, I saw a couple of car rental offices. I did not find out the prices, because. I did not plan to actively travel around the country on this trip.

View of old Nessebar

It seems to me that it is easier to rent a car in advance. Now in Runet there are many different services and aggregators for finding car rentals. I recommend a proven car booking service -. It is good because you can choose the office of interest and book a car. Russian interface and convenient search. The site works as a specialized search engine, similar to the aviasales or skyscanner services. Only not on air tickets, but on car rental.

Excursions

In St. Vlas, you can order excursions to many destinations in Bulgaria. You can go to Istanbul or Romania. There are many offices in the city. I prefer to drive on my own.

I recently got out. In it, I share what you can see in Bulgaria in a week. I describe in detail our movements. I give the cost of the trip and the time spent in each city.

The cost of rest in St. Vlas

Let me summarize a little. The table shows approximate figures based on our travels in Bulgaria. The duration of the trip is 10-12 days. To plan your budget, you can add or remove unnecessary expense items. For example, if you do not plan to rent a car or go on excursions, these items can be excluded and the cost will be lower.

Our main residence in Bulgaria was in Sveti Vlas (look for Sveti Vlas in gizmeteo). Located between Elenite and Sunny Beach.

Yeah, that same Slanchev Bryag is an all-Union resort, the one that is "not Crimea, but cooler", which even now receives 6 million people during the season.

Sunny Beach, 6 million holidaymakers per season

A bunch of hotels and sanatoriums and entertainment for the "ugly youngsters." It looks, even in the complete absence of people, like greetings from the 90s - the entire embankment is lined with endless stalls with shorts, hot dogs, a shooting range, sunglasses, etc. And all this enchanting fuck-up stretches for many kilometers and replaces the usual embankment from the 20th century - with benches and lawns, showers and toilets. It is interesting how people who bought rooms in an expensive hotel near the sea feel, but find that in order to reach the sea they have to overcome an obstacle course with shawarma and slot machines that stand almost on the sand.

Sunny Beach, luxury hotel

But this is what was expected from Sunny Beach, although there was hope that in 2016 it could be ennobled.

Sunny Beach, deserted embankment

Pomorye - here they have salt lakes, there is a salt museum, but the main thing is that there is a spit that separates the lake with mud from the sea and on which there is a local nudist beach for those who are over ... in general, for grandparents.

Bulgaria. Pomorie. Kosa is a nudist beach for grandmothers.

And there, in the spring, snakes swim in the lake to lay their eggs and there was darkness there - the big ones immediately ran away from the shore and I didn’t have time to take a picture of them, but the small ones then sailed in large numbers - they looked out, curious.

Bulgaria. Pomorie. Spit - young snakes.

And in front of the “spit with sand and poppies” there is a whole “spit with Soviet-style huts”, where the poorest Bulgarians rest - something like the Belosarai spit or Zatoka.

Bulgaria. Pomorie. Spit - huts for the rogue.

Further Burgas (this is already a real big city, which has " marine park", which stretches along the entire coast and where locals can culturally relax. They say that there is a project that was supposed to be sponsored by the Russians, according to which half of this park will be converted into " Entertainment Center"with a water park, slides, blackjack and sluices, but so far there is a crisis in Russia and therefore the whole thing is put on Holdon - they are looking for new investors).

After Burgas we reached Sozopol. By the way, Sozopol made a more favorable impression on me than Nessebar, although in fact it is "the same eggs only in profile" - probably because it will be smaller and there were also fewer people in it. There was a moment when we walked along absolutely empty streets and thought that the zombie apocalypse had come. There, near Sozopol, there is still an island where you can swim and look at the stone pillars at the bottom (a petrified grove of ancient trees). But the sea was slightly stormy and there were few people, so we did not even try to hire a boat.

Sozopol. Did you notice the name of the ship in the upper left corner?

Sozopol - the ship Kherson, Kryshmen and more.

Sozopol. Kryshmen.

Sozopol architecture.

Sozopol. Architecture.

Sozopol. Street.

This is how they live.

Sozopol. This is how they live.

I was very interested in why they lay tiles like that. I think it's "beautiful".

Sozopol. Beautiful tile.

And this is a Christian church, which was built under the Tatars and in order not to violate the ban on being no taller than a rider on a horse - it was built something like this - mostly underground.

Sozopol. Church.

Well, you understand that I liked Sozopol, so there are a lot of photos.

Sozopol. Sea.

If you ever get to Sozopol, then along the way you will see a road sign for Zvezdets. We also slowed down and thought a little about whether to go and see how it looks, but decided that Zvezdets in life seems to be enough and we’d better go back to Sveti Vlas.

There is a Star.

Because Sveti Vlas looks very advantageous against the background of all this tourist-cultural fucked up.

Let's start with the fact that, despite the fact that this settlement was founded in the 2nd century AD blah blah blah, it received the status of a city only in 2007 or something. And all this happened only because the Denov brothers decided to make this area their family nest and their pocket city - as I understand it, the local mafiosi (in general, Bulgaria, in some way, has just begun to emerge from the 90s and here all the politicians they are a bit of mafiosi, mafiosi - politicians and philanthropists - fathers, etc.) - in short, you understand why Bulgaria is not yet in the Schengen.

Saint Vlas. Amphitheater.

So the Deneuve Brothers made a real "garden city" out of St. Vlas. And they themselves build a lot and let others in. That is, in fact, this is a separate area near the sea (climatically similar to the Crimea, because it is also separated by a mountain from the mainland). And life in this area is nothing at all like what happens in the rest of Bulgaria. And everything looks very decent, despite the fact that it's all not fenced off, but its own pocket security service travels along the central streets 24/7, which identifies "their own" and those who are not allowed to be here (gypsies and local rogues) - and very quickly takes them out of the territory. We were driven by many times, day and night, and identified correctly.

Saint Vlas. Security service 24/7.

Because foreigners are considered to be their own here - mostly Russians and British, Germans or Ukrainians can be. And perhaps even here Bulgarians can stay, but only those who have passed face control or with Ausweiss. And all because an infinite number of hotels have been built here and residential complexes for sale and rent "at the resort" - that is, each complex has its own pool (or several pools - 8 for example) each has landscaping, trees, bushes, flowers, lawns, etc., etc., depending on the level of luxury in this complex. And all this is because each owner of apartments in these complexes, in addition to utilities, pays an annual fee "for the maintenance of the territory, pool and house" - and this fee is an average of 600 Euros per year (there are a little less, but there are also 1010 Euros). In the rest of Bulgaria there is also a maintenance fee, but it is in the region of 60-100 Euros per year.

Saint Vlas is a small town named after the patron of trade, God Veles. Apparently, the patron is doing his job very well, because young St. Vlas is rapidly developing and becoming very popular resort Bulgaria. There are at least two reasons for this: a convenient location and a healing climate.

St. Vlas is located 40 km from international airport Burgas, 5 km from the largest and busiest resort in the country - Sunny Beach and 9 km from the ancient and quiet Nessebar. Having “registered” at the green foothills of Stara Planina on the Black Sea coast, the town has secured a reputation as a magnificent balneological clinic: there is a special microclimate that combines a mild sea breeze enriched with iodine ions and the purest mountain air. Many vacationers go to St. Vlas precisely in order to improve their lungs.

Search for flights to the city of Burgas (nearest airport to St. Vlas)

Hotels

IN last years many comfortable hotels and boarding houses have been built in the resort, mainly 4 * and 3 *. There is only one five-star hotel so far - the Garden of Eden. It offers guests restaurants and bars, swimming pools and saunas, spa and fitness centers, tennis courts and billiards, beauty salons and Internet cafes.

Apartments by the sea will cost about 80-150 BGN per day, and in the Old Town - at least three times cheaper - 40-60 BGN.

Maps of Saint Vlas

The beaches of Saint Vlas

The beaches in the resort of St. Vlas are wide sandy with small bays, suitable for swimming. There are 3 of them with a total length of 1.5 km. Two beaches - "Central" and "Marina" - are located on both sides of the yacht harbor. Both are guarded and in the evenings, after the departure of vacationers, they are put in order. There are many bars on these beaches, there are volleyball courts and rental shops. water technology. south of Central beach there is another rather narrow pebble-sand beach "Camping". All beaches are free. They take money only for sunbeds.

In Sveti Vlas, there is a beautiful view of the sea: on the one hand, the lights of a noisy Sunny Beach, on the contrary - a peninsula with the ancient city of Nessebar.

Entertainment and attractions of St. Vlas

In Sveti Vlas there is no seaside promenade that runs through the whole city, but there are two main tourist streets: Tsar Simeon with many shops and vegetable shops, and Mak street parallel to the Marina Dinevi yacht marina with many restaurants and a beautiful view of the sea.

One of the main attractions in Saint Vlas is the restored temple of Athanasius the Great, built in 1864-65.

Once St. Vlas itself was called "Kyuchuk Monastery" - there were many monasteries in its vicinity, but at the turn of the 18th century they were destroyed. Only the churches of Blachernae and St. Andrew, as well as many sketes, have survived to this day.

In Sveti Vlas itself, on the stage of the open amphitheater of the Arena complex, theatrical performances, musical programs, shows and funny evenings are held during the season, and in the port of Marina Dinevi - two yacht regattas, retro motorcycle parades, beauty contests, fashion shows, presentations and other interesting events.

On Black Sea coast Bulgaria near famous resort Sunny Beach is a small cozy town of Sveti Vlas (this is the name in Bulgarian). The mild pleasant climate, affordable prices have made it a popular destination for family vacation. For lovers of a quiet secluded holiday, we recommend visiting this resort of St. Vlas - see photos, hotels, attractions, a map, reviews of tourists on our website.

Former fishing village ancient history became a resort back in 1963, when a sanatorium for the treatment of respiratory organs was built here. Sea air, saturated with ions of iodine and other useful microelements, is good for health. Coniferous forests growing on mountain slopes also make it healing.

Sveti Vlas, unlike Sunny Beach, located in the flat terrain, is located at the junction of mountains and the sea. On the one hand, it is surrounded by beautiful seascapes, and on the other, the majestic Balkans. The climate of the resort resembles the Crimean one. Here, even in the heat, the feeling of freshness and lightness does not leave. Many tourists choose it because of these features and healing properties air.

After 2000, Sveti Vlas in Bulgaria is actively built up with hotel complexes and residential buildings. In 2006 it was given the status of a city. Some tourists who have been here on vacation then acquire real estate and stay for permanent residence. The city is, as it were, divided into two parts - one is an unremarkable residential area and the second, built up with cozy hotels, with beautiful landscaping and well-appointed places for recreation, a resort area.

St. Vlas is located just 37 km from Burgas International Airport. His administrative center Nessebar ( ancient city) is located at a distance of 9 km. The northern outskirts of Sunny Beach are located next to the outskirts of St. Vlas.

Weather in the resort Saint Vlas

The climate in this part of Bulgaria is warm, Mediterranean. There are many sunny days here, the temperature is always positive. Even in the coldest winter months daily temperature about + 8C, and night + 3 ... + 6C. Temperature sea water in the resort of St. Vlas at this time + 6 ... + 9C.

Church of St. Blaise Bulgaria

In the resort part of the city there is a restored church of St. Blaise Bulgaria. At this place in ancient times there was a monastery of the same name, destroyed by the Turks in the 17th century. Now in this church there are two shrines - the relics of the great martyr Blasius and the Golden Cross. The temple is small, but very beautiful, with numerous wall paintings, a rich iconostasis.
The amphitheater Arena is located next to the temple. built in the form of a Greek amphitheatre. various festive events, concerts, performances, children's discos - mostly free. Here you can also learn fencing for a fee, lessons are given by the best fencing school in Bulgaria.

Business card resort and entertainment center. This is the largest yacht port on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria, designed to accommodate up to 300 vessels, 50 of which are over 25 m long. The port is located in an excellent location, protected from the mountains from the winds. It is equipped with modern equipment, providing world-class status. Here are located for well-to-do people expensive nightlife, a casino, a chic restaurant, and a 5-star Palace hotel.

The embankment was built according to the European model and resembles the embankments of Nice and Genoa. Another attraction is the swans that appear here regularly and swim among the yachts in the port.

On Semion Street, the main street in the city and the most visited by tourists, there are many shops, restaurants with live music and other entertainment.

Tourists are offered interesting hiking eco-routes in the mountains of St. Vlas, where the Orthoto conservation area is located, with equipped places for recreation, where natural panoramas are breathtaking in their beauty. These areas are not safe because there are many wild animals - wild boars, foxes, jackals, poisonous snakes. There are several safe shelters for tourists on the territory.

This vacation spot is popular with very wealthy people. Therefore, the beaches and the entire resort area are kept in perfect order. All of them were created artificially, specifically for resort area. After each winter season, when there are strong storms at sea, they are restored and put in order again. There are 4 beaches in the city:

  • New South. A small Caribbean themed beach. The descent into the sea is gentle, protected from waves by the waters of the Marina Denevi yacht port. The perfect place for holidays with kids.
  • Venid North. The largest and most comfortable beach. Decorated in the Caribbean style. There are many sun loungers, rental points, swings installed - everything for a comfortable and comfortable stay. The entrance to the sea is convenient, gentle. The only downside is the steep stairway down to the beach.
  • Iztok East. Sand and pebble beach. Small and narrow in size. Sun loungers and umbrellas are available in limited quantities. Sunset in the sea is rocky, a lot of algae.

Central, Northern and South Beaches annually receive Blue Flag certificates confirming the status of the best. See Saint Vlas Bulgaria photos of the city and beaches.
